Taking a break from my USA holiday pictures with another shot from the Open House weekend in London in September.
I had wanted to shoot the "Batman" building in More London for a while and made a stop there on my way to City Hall just around the corner. This building wasn't part of the Open House weekend but I'd love to see it from the inside.
This is a 3 shot HDR.
The pollinators keep on coming, even to the flowers that are passed their best! This one (Batman hoverfly) is on a spent Gaillardia. HBBBT
Bruce Wayne fights crime as Gotham City's feared vigilante, their vigilant protector, their Dark Knight, their Batman.
The centerpiece of the collection, The Batman was the most important character to get right. I gave him a sense of bulk; a looming presence. He stands head and shoulders over most of the other characters in stature and in the height of his Crime Alley base stand. But also I wanted to give him emotion. His head is turned downward, facing his past, to reinvigorate the purpose of his vigilante mission.
Batman was surprisingly one of the easiest characters to build. His body was not challenging to construct, say in comparison to Joker, and really only his head was rather tough to pin down. I went though many different cowl ears and additionally I constantly altered the eyebrows to give him an increasingly angry appearance.
I custom made the cape, to avoid all the issues that come with official Lego capes (limited selection, discoloration, extremely expensive, poor sizes etc.), as well as ensure the style was to my liking. It was made to be exceptionally long, to give him a flowing appearance.
His belt was another key section, and my favorite area of the figure. I made it rather large, purposefully, to give the impression of preparation--that being Batman is ready for anything. It holds visible (perfectly scaled!) minifigure batarangs and a grappling gun and utilizes minifigure backpacks for pouches. I had at one point recolored the belt design in yellow for a Jason Todd Robin suit; although the character was pulled from the collection last minute.
I must say I'm particularity pleased with how the Batman turned out. Out of all the characters, that makes him the likely-est to not get smashed!

Or maybe it's the Riddler! Have a great day and weekend you wonderful folks out there. Stay safe and keep on smiling. HFDF
What looks like a fire in the corner behind Batman is a reflection from a canister set that is 1950's anodized aluminum made to look like copper. The color is reflected in his eye, as well--but I have no idea why...
This is the action shot of Batman that should have accompanied the more demure shot of him resting atop the stars.

They are sitting by the computer--which, coincidentally, has proximity to the kitchen (where the food happens).
The painting on the wall is one I did of Orson, who was one of our "California" cats. He would have gotten along with these two swimmingly.

I wonder if the florists had ever been asked for this before. So clever. The black is actually white flowers dyed. I thought they were plastic at first.
(L to R) Otis, Idaho, and Batman always show up for lunch--in this case an hour and a half too early.

A fantastic, menacing silhouette..
This figure is fully painted by me including the whole face. This is based of his appearance in lego batman 3. Although the face is not the best I think I did pretty good on it. Please comment if you fave.
Batman: Ahem... I'm B..
Sindy: Why hello there little fella', aren't you the cutest thing in a pair of boots!
Batman: I'm Batman.
Sindy: Aww, a little bat man. I see the widdle ears. Do come in.
Batman: Hmpf! They warned me about this place. I should have listened and stayed in the cave.
Sindy: Nonsense! I'm Sindy. Are you here to stay, I can't help but notice your knapsack? Have a seat dearie and I'll make you a cuppa.
Batman: (Thinking) "At least they serve drinks. Better blend in with the locals." - Thanks.

He's a MEGO action figure, released in the 1970s, but was based on the appearance of the 1966 TV version of the character. (Thanks Dave and Dal for the info)

A marvel of engineering for its time, the John Batman Bridge was completed in 1968.
"It was the first cable-stayed bridge in Australia and among the first such bridges in the world. The main span is 206 metres (676 ft) long, suspended from a 91-metre-high (299 ft) steel A-frame tower. The deck is 10.3 metres (34 ft) wide. The tower is on the west bank of the Tamar river, on a solid dolerite rock base which carries 78% of the weight of the main span. The length of the bridge is 432 metres (1,417 ft) between abutments. The east bank is soft clay not capable of supporting a bridge. A causeway carries the highway across this softer base, supported by four piers built on piles driven up to 18 metres (59 ft) into the clay. The bridge deck is constructed of steel."
