There is an old mine on Mt Basin. (on the right.) about the very center of the mountain in the picture..
Trying an old technique of free lensing at Gas Street Basin made for an interesting picture of the canal boats.
Went to Big Basin State Park today where K and the kids are camping with friends. Simply gorgeous. This is the late afternoon sun as I am on a ridge heading home.
The Moon’s Orientale basin is a massive lunar crater, about the size of Texas. Here, NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) terrain map combines with surface gravity measurements from the GRAIL mission. This data reveals structure in the lunar crust, beneath the surface, giving us a window on the geologic features of the Moon’s interior.
More info: Take a virtual tour of the Moon in all-new 4K resolution, thanks to data provided by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft. As the visualization moves around the near side, far side, north and south poles, we highlight interesting features, sites, and information gathered on the lunar terrain. A 6am departure from Wallace gave me plenty of time to spare to get towards Pasco and intercept the Columbia Basin Railway's turn to the BNSF interchange at Connell.
Here they come to Shano with Strench, Sessa and Witty right behind me.
Never realized how many dozens of shots I never posted from last year's trip until I spent Saturday going through the archives....I think because we had so many crazy spring weather days (7 out of 9 days it snowed) that I wasn't that happy with the landscape shots I came away with, but I found a few that I think are worthy of sharing....after all, overcast days do have their benefits at times :-) This one was taken somewhere along the boardwalk at Midway Geyser Basin....the saturated colors caught my eye. We went there to see Grand Prismatic but never managed to get a good look because of all the heavy steam....there's always this year to try again....just 10 short days to go!!!!
Have a great Tuesday.....and thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

"Copper Basin Lookout:" Watching the sunset while standing under a very large juniper tree and looking toward Skull Valley from Prescott's Copper Basin Lookout near Thumb Butte. I took this image a number of years back and never got around to posting it. It was one of those cooler than usual, windy mid-fall days that had the sun hidden behind the clouds until the very last minute, and thankfully allowed for a splash of color against the sky.

There are so many peaks in this area. I don't know the names of many.

Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park after a storm that dumped 2 inches of rain on Friday, 17 February 2017. I took the 5 1/2 hour drive to Death Valley just for this occasion. DSC_6360A
A compilation of Images taken during a visit to Glasson Basin and Marina, Some of the images here have already been placed, but there are many more to view during this test film.
As I was driving towards the backside of the Alvord playa, I realized I wouldn't make it in time for sunset. I glanced to my left and saw this, so I pulled the truck over and decided to shoot the sunset with the "desert sea" of bushes (Greasewood) and a backdrop of the Mickey Buttes, and Mickey Basin. I had 5 miles of road left between me and the ideal location, but the going was slow due to ruts and such. That mist on the horizon is dust from the truck :)
Enjoy!

of course Antarctica is the first. It's like visiting another planet. This is the Blue Basin, in the John Day Fossil Beds, miles-deep layers of volcanic ash that solidified with age and pressure, oxidized into insane colors, and eroded into fantastic shapes.

Looking across Blue Creek Basin from along the ridge extending from Colorado Mines Peak. The lake is Blue Lake, the starting point for Blue Creek. Unnamed Peak 12845 and Cone Mountain are along the ridge to the left.
A setting looking to the north while taking in views across eroded and adobe formations present in this part of the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area.
Badwater Basin is a point in Death Valley, California.
At Badwater the level is 286 feet below sea level. This is one of the hottest points in western hemisphere with temperature soaring upto 134 degrees F. Temperature was 123 degrees when I shot this picture.
Reflections in the thermal pool at Black sand Basin in Yellowstone. Beautiful colors were everywhere.
On our way to Montana we spent the better part of a day on the Powder River Basin and saw 18 trains, one of which an intermodal. BNSF ran 90% of the trains but we followed this UP load for about 15 miles to this spot at the monstrous Thunder Basin Coal Company loadout which is the largest surface coal mine in North America.
