Gerðuberg

Gerðuberg is a spectacular basalt cliff on the southern coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland. The cliff is famous for its remarkably symmetrical hexagonal basalt columns, formed when lava cooled and contracted thousands of years ago. Rising in orderly vertical formations, Gerðuberg is considered one of Iceland’s finest examples of columnar basalt and is a popular stop for photographers and geology enthusiasts.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula Often called "Iceland in Miniature," the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is one of the country's most diverse regions, featuring volcanoes, glaciers, lava fields, black-sand beaches, fishing villages, waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, and rugged coastlines. Dominating the peninsula is Snæfellsjökull, the glacier-capped volcano made famous by Jules Verne's novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. The peninsula is widely regarded as one of Iceland’s most scenic destinations due to the variety of landscapes concentrated in a relatively small area.
