Mt Barker is often confused with the SA city of the same name and there is a link between the two. The nearby mountain of the same named was discovered in 1829 by Dr Wilson who named it after the then Commandant of the King George Sound (Albany) camp from NSW, Captain Collett Barker. Later Captain Barker was sent to SA for some exploring some years before white settlement. It was he who discovered and named Mt Barker in SA but sadly he was killed by Aboriginal people in April 1831 near the mouth of the Murray River. The soldiers from his troop erected a fine memorial to Captain Collett Baker in St. James Anglican Church, King Street in Sydney. The first settlement near Mt Barker happened in 1835.A bush inn opened in the town in 1860 but growth was very slow. A convict built police station opened in 1868. Later Mt Barker became another of the WA Land Company town sites on the Great Southern Railway to Albany. But land did not sell here and when the government reclaimed the site there was nothing much here. However three years later in 1899 they gazetted a town with a few buildings that existed from the Great Southern Railway era. In 1868 convicts had built a convict station here and the old Police Station from that year still stands. It is now the town museum and was used until 1908 when a more modern police station as erected. We will be visiting the Banksia Farm but the district is known for its apple orchards, wheat and canola fields, sheep and cattle, timber and vineyards, not to mention springtime wild flowers.

This group was a very rare chance for boys from SMGS to associate with local ladies and was hence rather popular.

Project: Anonymity

For this project I travelled to London to take photograph passers-by as they went about their daily lifes. I was inspired by the idea that we walk pass strangers every day and take no notice. But each person was living a life just like mine or yours, and I wanted to way to get this across to my viewer. Using bleach on the photographs I developed, I worked into the images in a way which drew the eye to one figure in the scene. The bleach created a great texture on the surface as the image worn away.

In Chicago's Grant park near Soldier Field, is the Gold Star Family park and Chicago Police Memorial honoring those Chicago Policemen & women who were killed in the line of duty.

Covering the ground in front of the water wall, inlaid paver bricks commemorating the lives and careers of Chicago Police. From the first officer killed, Casper Laurer to Alex Valadez, it is an impressive display of hearfelt emotion. You can't help but walk across the grounds and look down.

"Here is a list of fearful things:

The jaws of sharks, a vulture's wings,

The rabid bite of the dogs of war,

The voice of one who went before.

But most of all the mirror's gaze,

which counts us out our numbered days."

Lovely art nouveau glasswork over the entrance to Barker Brothers' Unity Works, 2-26 Constitution Hill, Birmingham. Herbert Edward Barker and Matthias Barker traded under the style Barker Brothers at Unity Works, Paradise Street, Birmingham from 1885. In 1903 they moved to the new Unity Works from where the firm operated until the 1980's, latterly as Barker Ellis Silver Co Ltd.

Due to a sign for the Pakistani Consulate being placed over the outside, I had to move inside and then flip the image horizontally to make the writing legible.
