Last short hike of the day to a familiar spot. Every visit to the park holds one or more surprises. Today's was the high water behind Barker Dam.
The recent rains reached the high desert to produce scenes I've not seen in a very long time.
A year ago the water behind the dam was at least 12 feet lower. This is quite remarkable.

Today was Barker Days, and we went to the pool and had a blast for about 4 hrs in the sun and water.
Ouzo continued his newly started tradition of being a wuss and a big baby and refusing to jump in the pool. Very nice... He did jump a couple of times, other couple times I pushed him in, but spent most of the time between the kiddie pool and the baseball field next to the pool. Every time I'd throw him a ball in the big pool and he couldn't fish it from the shore, he'd get mad and run to the baseball field and wait for me there :)))
We both had fun and I got flip-flop tan marks :)

(Joshua Tree NP, California) - When I took this I thought the green slushy, mushy, slimy green stuff was in the way. So glad I took these anyway. I now find that the green stuff provides an interesting foreground. Taken with a 3-stop reverse GND filter.

Constructed in 1910, this was the home of prominent business, civic, and political leader David Barker (1868-1967) and his wife, Pauline (1878-1902). The house was completed during Mr. Barker's third year as mayor (1907-1913) of Houston Heights. Outstanding features of the American four-square style house include its wraparound porch with Tuscan columns and denticulated cornice; gabled dormer centered over the facade; and front entry with transom and sidelights. The home remained in the Barker family until 1971. (1991) (Marker No. 10603)
