“And so me and Murray and the boys is sittin’ around having a brewski. It’s been this loooong frickin’ day – what with that frickin’ census and all. You can hardly find yourself a barstool. I mean Bethlehem is frickin’ over-frickin’ run wit these freakin’ tourist types. Ain’t no vacancy anywhere. They’re sleeping in the parks. They’re sleeping in barns…in da alleys. Geez!
“Anyway in walk Scooter and Zippy. You know these guys? Those two shepherds? They come in all worked up – so freakin’ excited they can hardly talk.
“I says ‘Sit down. Relax, guys. You are agitated right now. You been spending too much time wit sheep.’
“And Zippy goes ‘You would not freaking believe what we just saw.’
“And I go ‘What?’
“And Scooter says ‘There we are. Looking at sheep like we always do. Same sheep. Different night. All of a sudden badda boom badda bing! The skies open up and (you are not gonna believe this…) but a whole bunch of freakin’ ANGELS come down. There’s light all over the place and music and all kinda crap-that-I-can’t-figure-out-what-it-is.’
“And I take a drink and go ‘Sure, Scooter, whatever you say.’
“And Zippy goes ‘No, man. It’s true! And they’re hollering stuff like ‘Do not be afraid’ which is not gonna freaking happen cause this scary stuff. Scooter beside me almost pees his freakin’ pants. (Which is a thing I can kinda relate to but ain’t gonna discuss any further.)
“Then the angel says ‘I bring you news of great joy which will be for all the people.’ And I go ‘What?’ and the angel goes ‘A saviour has been born to you. He is Christ, the Lord.’
“And I go ‘Uh huh, whatever.’
“And the angel goes ‘You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’
“I go ‘You mean like in a BARN?’ Angel looks at me and goes “Yeah…”
“I look at Scooter and he nods. I look at Zippy and he nods too – like I’m gonna believe that. And then they go ‘We are gonna see if dis Saviour is in the barn down the street, wrapped wit cloth. You wanna come?’
“And I go ‘Yeah. Sure. Like the Saviour of the whole fricking planet is gonna be in a barn? Give your head a shake, pal. Have a brewski. Relax.’ (Now you know Zippy and Scooter like their beer.) But they both say ‘no’ and leave a perfectly good bar to go running outta there and off to da barn.
“You believe that?”

The bar immediately becomes absolutely quiet. In a husky, deep voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, you should know something. The bartender is blond, the bouncer is blond and I'm a 6' tall, 200 pound blonde with a black belt in karate. What's more, the fella sitting next to me is blond and he's a weightlifter. The woman to your right is a blonde, and she's a pro wrestler. Think about it seriously, mister. You still wanna tell that blonde joke?"
The blind guy says, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."

Last Friday 13th of May 2022 was a lucky day for me! I had a good time during a Zoom meeting with favorite girlfriends across the US & Canada. It started at 4 pm Alaska time. I excused myself after 2 hrs. to join a local trans group on Zoom, but that link didn't work. Suddenly I realized I was really hungry, I knew the kitchen would be open at the club so I hopped in my car and went there. There I had a special, ribs made in a fabulous guava juice mix, accompanied by smashed little potatoes, and ear of barbequed corn with a mayonnaise and cheese on it! OMG this was a fabulous meal! While there I got to introduce some details of Alaska to a gay couple from Fort Lauderdale (they had their winter coats LOL!) who had just flown into Anchorage to attend a wedding near a glacier the next day. Since I'll be traveling this week, I decided to reduce chances of picking up the latest covid virus and leave the club before the Friday night crowd arrived. Back home I as happy to find the US & Canadian girls kept the Zoom meeting going. A few of us continued for 3 more hours!

The kitchen of Cathy Bailey and Robin Petravic, who own Heath Ceramics. The room has concrete countertops and stainless-steel appliances; all except the refrigerator are Craigslist finds. My guess is that's a Bertoia barstool with a lovely vinyl cushion in sunflower. The Heath tile color might be New Mango or Caramel, although it may be custom, since, you know, these folks run the place.
*Update!* It is custom. This, according to the SF Chronicle: The couple created the vibrant backsplash using Heath overstock and imperfect tiles left over from a custom order (for a building on the University of Pennsylvania campus). Bailey installed the tiles in a staggered pattern in the kitchen to help hide discrepancies in the lengths. Although the tile is not part of the regular Heath line, the bright yellow color was added to the company's tile palette.
