Ballet Nacional de Cuba
The company was founded by Fernando and Alicia Alonso and Fernando's brother Alberto on October 28, 1948 as Ballet Alicia Alonso. In 1950, the Alicia Alonso Academy of Ballet school was also established to promote the talents of young Cuban dancers.
Boys have been encouraged to audition as much as girls, and over the years this has become an easier task because parents now realize the financially rewarding future that awaits good dancers. During their eight-year period of training, all students receive support from the government, everything is free. After completing the training, a dancer earns a salary which compares to the salaries of doctors and skilled workers

One of the many group shots we did that represent specific ballets that the company performs. This is shot in Central Park, NYC.
------
This series is from a recent shoot I did in NYC of the all-male comedy ballet company Les Ballets Grandiva. They are based out of NYC but perform mainly throughout Asia where they are VERY popular. These shoots were for images for their 2010 Japan Tour Program Book.
The company is all men and they dance both the male and female roles. Their repetoire consists of parodies of famous ballets, as well as original comedic ballet works. The men dancing as women dance on-pointe in tutus and the company members are all highly trained and skilled ballet dancers who've spent their lives studying the art.

I've been out a lot more this year in skinny jeans and ballet flats. An excellent combination, IMHO.

I'm working on an anthology of classic, epic poetry, which begins with selections from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey! :) I've replaced the Roman names with the Greek names: "RAGE, Sing, O goddess, the rage of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Greeks. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another."
All the best on your epic hero's odyssey into the art of photography!

I'm still going through the photos I took at the ballet more than a month ago.
Something I like about this pic, probably the legs :) To be serious, there is some pleasing symmetry in the picture, shame about the one girl who is totally hidden.
Big thanks to my sister (Nadine) and Rianne for a great shoot last week. Jonathan Cole and I finally putting my makeshift studio/garage to good professional use. This is the first time we are using the logo as well, so comments are welcome on that too! Many more shots to come from both of us!
