A macaroon (/mækəˈruːn/ mak-ə-roon) is a type of light, baked confection, described as either small cakes or meringue-like cookies depending on their consistency. The original macaroon was a "small sweet cake consisting largely of ground almonds" similar to Italian amaretti.

Not sure of the true origin of this popular cake in the Philippines. They call it "sansrival" there which translates from the French words as "unrivalled". Definitely not Filipino terminology and the cooking techniques are European. It has layers of meringue between buttercream icing and chopped cashews similar to a dacquoise. It's crunchy, good, and not too sweet. This is the very last piece and it's not a perfect shape anymore.
