Jay and I were in Bahrain for two and a half years while I was teaching at the Bahraini Air Force. I arrived in January of 1989 and we ventured onward to Dubai in the middle of 1991. We lived in several locations during our time on the island.

Bahrain, WTC
The Bahrain World Trade Center (also known as: Bahrain WTC or BWTC) is a 240 m (787 ft) high twin tower complex,located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
This 50-floor structure is constructed next to the King Faisal Highway,close to popular landmarks such as the towers of BFH, NBB,Abraj Al Lulu and the scenic Pearl Roundabout.
It is the second tallest building in Bahrain,after the twin towers of the Bahrain Financial Harbor.
The building is the first skyscraper in the world to integrate wind turbines into its design.

Manama (Arabic: المنامة, transliteration: al-Manāma) is the capital and largest city of Bahrain, with an approximate population of 155,000 people.
Manama has emerged as the capital of independent Bahrain after periods of domination by Portugal and Persians earlier in its history. Today, it is a modern capital with an economy based around the sales promotion industry as crude oil takes a less pronounced role in the economy. And due to its thriving economy, a Danish firm proposed a skyscraper that would be over 1 km (3,281 ft) tall, called the Murjan Tower. Currently only a concept, if built it would be the world's tallest man-made structure, even surpassing the supertall Burj Khalifa skyscraper, although it would be shorter than the Nakheel Tower in Dubai if both are built.

The Al Khamis Mosque - Founded at the end of the 1st century of Al Hijrah during the time of the Ummayad Caliph Umar bin Abd Al Aziz (717 - 720). Bahrainis were amongst the first to embrace Islam. Mohammed ruled Bahrain through one of his representatives, Al-Ala'a Al-Hadhrami. Bahraini embraced Islam in 629 (the seventh year of hijra). During the time of Umar I the famous companion of the Prophet Abu Hurayrah was the governor of Bahrain. Umar I also appointed Uthman bin Abi Al Aas as governor of the area as well. Al Khamis Mosque, founded in 692, was one of the earliest mosques built in Bahrain, in the era of Umayyad caliph Umar II.
From the time when Islam emerged in the seventh century until the early sixteenth century, the name Bahrain referred to the wider historical region of Bahrain stretching from Basrah to the Strait of Hormuz along the Persian Gulf coast. This was Iqlīm al-Baḥrayn, i.e. the Province of Bahrain, and the Arab inhabitants of the province were descendants of the Arab tribe Bani Abd al-Qais. This larger Bahrain comprised three regions: Hajar (present day Al-Hasa in Saudi Arabia), Al-Khatt (present day Al-Qatif in Saudi Arabia) and Awal (present day Bahrain). The name Awal remained in use, probably, for eight centuries. Awal was derived from the name of an idol that used to be worshipped before Islam by the inhabitants of the islands. The center of the Awal cult was Muharraq.
