A simple tan 10X15 background.
Cost- $25ish
Rit Dye: $4.00 a bottle
10x15 Piece of Muslin: Regularly $7 per yard. Mill End Textiles has 60% off any one fabric purchase. Price $20 for 5 yards
Process: Ball Dyeing (yes, I just made that up)
1-heat 1gallon of water to near boiling
2-Add dye
3-In a large plastic storage bin, pour in your dye concentrate solution
4-Put on gloves
5-Take the raw muslin and ball it up into one great big ball.
6-Immerse in dye concentrate
7-swish around for 5-10 so all the fabric gets some dye on it. However DO NOT follow the directions on the bottle. If you constantly agitate the dye mixture, you will get an even background, not a molted one.
8-wash in washing machine on the COLD cycle.
8-Dry in dryer on the HOT cycle.
