Pavlova number one. Ina Garten's recipe: 4 extra-large egg, 9" circle, 1.5 hours at 180 degrees with a one hour cool-down in the oven. Evidently, not enough heat.
Fine literature it ain't- but it's fun!
Go-Go Girl's of the Apocalypse is one of those books that you expect to find an add in the back for X-ray vision glasses. But it's not a graphic novel and there are no pictures.
Surprisingly it's a great, though somewhat tasteless, read.
It's the story about a group of people and their adventures in a post-apocalyptic world. Now that sounds nice... did I tell ya about the Nightclub called “Joey Armageddon's Cafe A Go-Go”? That's the place to go after a hard day of wandering around a radioactive wasteland. There you can get food, booze, whores, music and safety in a very unsafe world populated by gangs of cannibals and bandits.
It's also a unique way of explaining how an emerging society might create a feudal system of government and laws along with a basic economic system- taught by a 14 year old boy who spends lots of time playing Doom and fantasizing about that Resident Evil babe.
I liked it!
Call it trash but I see this as male version of “chick lit”.
Give it a try.

Certainly you deserve better but this is the best I could do handheld with limited light during my lunch break.
The frost hanging is about the same length as my pinky's fingernail. But as you know, one little snowflake with ten trillion of its cousins makes for quite the shovel full. The same is true of hoar frost and its affect on trees, cars and anything else left outdoors during a winter fog.
I thought you might like to see what that pretty frost looks like up close.

xmas morning - unwrapping presents copyright © 2012 sean dreilinger
view xmas 2012 - our first wake-up call arrived around 3:00am from an excited kid, but we held out for a 8:30am unwrapping ceremony - _MG_1014 on a black background.
This is not a scale drawing nor is it a drawing of any great accuracy, but it does give (I hope) a useful interpretation of what remains of the castle in the context of what little we know about it.
The L-plan tower-house, as drawn 230 years ago, is shown in yellow. The walls shown in grey, all parts of the main block, are all that remain visible above ground. Where the walls are shown in black, they extend above ground floor level, to form the only surviving portion of the first floor. Nothing remains of the wing to the south, shown in dotted lines - not above ground at any rate. The ground level is clearly as much as half a storey higher than it used to be, so the foundations may still exist below the current ground level.
The western ground floor cellar was vaulted and survives mostly intact. The next room to the east was either very small (in which case there would have been a 3rd cellar at the east end) or, the surviving section of vaulting was a kitchen fireplace.
The range to the west (shown in green with blue walls), extending off the west gable of the main block, is a subsidiary range or rooms built after the tower-house.
The green splat is the Lara Croft, Tomb Raider tree!
We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. [...]
Hannah, can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up Hannah! The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light! We are coming into a new world; a kindlier world, where men will rise above their hate, their greed, and brutality. Look up, Hannah! The soul of man has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow! Into the light of hope, into the future! The glorious future, that belongs to you, to me and to all of us. Look up, Hannah. Look up!
Hannah, estás me ouvindo? A alma do homem ganhou asas e afinal começa a voar. Voa para o arco-íris, para a luz da esperança. Ergue os olhos, Hannah! Ergue os olhos!

Despite having visited St Martin just eight months before, I could not find it. I remembered its situation, and approach along a long narrow lane, but from the village of Ryarsh there were no signs pointing to it, only to Addington church, and more of that soon.
I asked the postman, where the church was.
Which church?
Nice one.
As there are many round here.
Ryarsh.
So he told me, I just needed to follow the road back out, over the motorway and down the track.
Oh yes.
The warden and her daughter were just about to lock up as I arrived, which was good luck for me, and I was told to take as much time as I wanted.
Unusually for a Kent church, Ryarsh has some fine wooden carvings, but despite only being Victorian, they are well done and add to the charm.
-------------------------------------------
An attractive church which stands a long way from its (later) village. The building is of Norman date and the north wall of the nave displays some good herringbone masonry and a tiny round-headed window above. Inside there is an unusual Norman pillar piscina on the south side of the chancel. A south aisle was added in the fifteenth century and has a nicely proportioned gabled east end. The rood loft staircase is still visible inside as are the responds of the eastern triplet of Norman windows, replaced by the present east window in the Perpendicular period. The south aisle roof is dated and obviously indicates a replacement after damage in the eighteenth century, whilst other good quality woodwork includes a Jacobean pulpit.

RYARSH
SOUTHWARD from Birling lies Ryarsh, commonly called Rash. In Domesday it is called Riesce, and in the Textus Roffensis, REIERSCE.
THE PARISH of Ryarsh is rather an unfrequented place, more healthy than it is either pleasant or fer tile. It is in length about two miles, but in breadth it is very narrow. The water, called Addington brook, crosses the center of the parish eastward, beyond which it extends southward up to the high road from London through Wrotham to Maidstone, and beyond it about half a mile to Fartherwell, Mr. Oliver Golding's, situated at the boundary of the parish, within a very small distance from Ofham-street. The village stands close on the north side of the above brook, with the church about a quarter of a mile eastward from it, almost adjoining to Leyborne parish, hence the ground rises northward, where, at near a mile's distance, is another hamlet, called Ryarsh likewise, which is larger than the former village. The soil between the two villages is a deep unfertile sand, but on the rising ground southward of the turnpike road it borders much upon the quarry rock.
THIS MANOR in the time of the Conqueror, was part of the possessions of Odo, bishop of Baieux, the king's half-brother, under the general title of whose lands it is thus entered in the book of Domesday.
The same Hugh (de Port) holds of the bishop (of Baieux) Riesce. It was taxed at two sulings and an half. The arable land is five carucates. In demesne there are two, and ten villeins, with two borderers, having three carucates. There is a church and ten servants, and a mill of ten shillings, and nine acres of meadow. Wood for the pannage of five hogs. In the time of king Edward the Confessor it was worth eight pounds, when he received it one hundred shillings, now six pounds. Alured held it of king Edward.
On the disgrace of the bishop of Baieux, about the year 1084, his lands and possessions were seized on by the king, and confiscated to his use. Soon after which this manor seems to have been granted to the family of Crescie, one of whom is mentioned in the Battle Abbey Roll, as surviving after the battle of Hastings.
William de Crescie possessed this manor in the reign of king John, in the 5th year of which reign, he obtained a charter of liberties in Ryarsh and Birling; his descendant, Hugh de Crescie, died in the 47th year of king Henry III. without issue, and Stephen de Crescie, his brother, became as his heir entitled to this manor. At the latter end of the next reign of king Edward I. John de Mowbray held it, as appears by antient court rolls of the reign of king Edward II. as parcel of the barony of Bedford. (fn. 1)
Being afterwards discontented concerning some part of his wife's inheritance, (she was Aliva, daughter and coheir of William de Brewes) being kept from him, he, with other great men, took up arms, but being defeated at the battle of Boroughbridge, in Yorkshire, in the 15th year of king Edward II. he was, there taken prisoner, and carried to York, where he was hanged, and his estates confiscated to the crown.
His descendants were summoned to parliament as lords Mowbray, of Axkolme, (fn. 2) one of them John lord Mowbray, was created earl of Nottingham on the day of king Richard the IId.'s coronation, with this special clause in the charter of his creation. That all his lands and tenements, of which he was then possessed, or should afterwards purchase, should be held sub honore comitali, and as parcel of his earldom. He enjoyed this honor only till the 18th year of his age, and then died in the 6th year of that reign, and was buried in the church of the Carmelites, near Fleetstreet, London.
¶He was succeeded by Thomas, his brother, who two days afterwards was advanced to the dignity of Earl of Nottingham, per cincturam gladii, and by patent in the 9th year of the above reign, anno 1385. He had granted to him the title and office of earl marshal of England, being the first earl marshal of England, for before they were only marshals, and stood then in such favor with the king, that, acknowledging his just and hereditary title to bear for his crest, A golden leopard, with a white label, which of right belonged to the king's eldest son, he by his letters patent granted to him and his heirs, authority to bear The golden leopard for his crest, with a coronet of silver about his neck, instead of the label. (fn. 3) Of which office he had a confirmation in the 20th year of it, with a union of the office of marshal in the courts of king's bench and exchequer, with other privileges annexed to them, and that he and his heirs male, by reason of their office of earl marshal, should bear a golden truncheon enamelled with black at each end, having at the upper end of it the king's arms, and at the lower end their own arms. And next year the king advanced him to the title of duke of Norfolk, his grandmother Margaret, daughter and heir of Tho mas of Brotherton, being the same day created duchess of Norfolk for life.
RYARSH is within the ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION of the diocese of Rochester, and deanry of Malling.
The church, which is dedicated to St. Martin, is a small building, with a tower steeple, having nothing remarkable in it.
This church was part of the possessions of the priory of Merton, in Surry, as early as the beginning of the reign of king Henry III. in the 22d year of which reign, anno 1237, an assise was taken before the king's justices, concerning the last presentation to this church of Reyers, at the instance of Henry, prior of Merton, against John de Curtenay, and Matilda his wife; when it appeared, that the prior and convent had presented in the time of peace, master Peter de Sausintone to this church, whom the bishop accordingly admitted and instituted. Upon which the prior recovered his seisin of it, &c. and he had his writ to the archdeacon of Rochester; the see being then vacant, for him to admit a sit parson, &c.
There is frequent expression made in antient records of Tempore Pacis, and Tempore belli aut Guerræ, which means thus: Tempore Pacis is when the courts of justice are open, and the judges and ministers of justice free to protect men from wrong and violence, and distribute justice. Tempore Belli is when by invasion, insurrection, or rebellion, &c. the peaceable course of justice is disturbed, and the courts of justice are, as it were, shut up, and military law of course takes place. (fn. 5)
Richard, bishop of Rochester, in the year 1242, appropriated this church to the church of St. Mary of Merton, and the canons there, to the building and maintaining of their church and buildings; and he decreed, that the canons should have appropriated to them all tithes late of sheaves, and the moiety of the tithe of hay, and the chief messuage of the church, together with the buildings, and the grove, the alder bed, and the meadow, and the rents of assise, except the annual rent of four-pence, from Hugh de Catesby, and his heirs, which the bishop assigned to the vicar.
And he decreed, that the vicar and his successors, should have the house usually assigned to the priest, with its territory, and the altarage, and all the arable land belonging to the church; so that the canons should not take, in the name of tithe, any thing arising from the produce of the land, or messuage aforesaid; and further, that the vicar should receive yearly of the canons the sum of forty-eight shillings; and lastly, that he should sustain all ordinary burthens; this grant being made during the vacancy of the church, by the resignation of Andrew de Winton, rector of it, into the bishop's hands, &c.
The rector and vicar of this parish, in the year 1448, made their petition to the bishop of Rochester, that the feast of the dedication of this parish church on the feast of St. Lambert, frequently happening in the Ember days, and in the time of harvest, hindered it from being kept with due solemnity and reverence; therefore, in compliance with their request, he changed it to the feast of the Translation of St. Martin, in summer, to be kept on the 4th day of June; on which he decreed it to be celebrated yearly for the future.
The church of Ryarsh, and the advowson of the vicarage, remained part of the possessions of the priory of Merton till the dissolution of it in the reign of king Henry VIII. when it was surrendered into the king's hands.
¶In the year 1608, the advowson of the vicarage belonged to Thomas Watton, esq. of Addington, whose descendant Edmund Watton, esq. of Addington, leaving an only daughter and heir, she carried it in marriage, first to Leonard, Bartholomew, esq. and secondly to Sir Roger Twisden, bart. both of whom she survived; and dying in 1775, it came to her son by her first husband, Leonard Bartholomew, esq. of Addington, who is the present patron of it.
The vicarage is a discharged living, of the clear yearly certified value of forty pounds, the yearly tenths of which are seventeen shillings.
It seems such a long time but I am working through the Cooktown images like a never-ending serial. Here is Episode 17. I was quite thrilled to find this tree, not even knowing it existed. It is a small tree found in this drier area, and is also called "The Scale-Leafed Ti-Tree". What is really strange about this tree is the very small size of the leaves which are just like tiny scales.
The tree can be fairly dense in the way the stems grow and is one of the habitats of Golden Shouldered Parrot. It produces tiny flowers that grow in small cream/yellow clusters at the tops of the branchlets. The fruit are clusters of typical melaleuca capsules that contain very fine seed. The tree is very restricted in habitat growing only in a area across central Cape York Peninsula.
but I'm really finding this hilarious because Michelle won't get this off her arm before she has to go to work tomorrow
but my legs keep carrying me further and further away. I want to stop and turn, and see that you haven't abandoned me completely, that you're there when I need you. I want to fall face down and just lie there until time stops, until we're together in a better place. I want to run to you, but these legs wont take me there. I want to move, but these legs are frozen. I'm full of contradictions but you look past them and see everything else. I am not worth your time yet you still seem to stop the clock each and everyday. The numb feeling that surges through my body is something of beauty, of pain. I need you to kill me. I need me to be part of my past.
my Lord, I want more of you and less of me.
I know, I'm 24 hours late, but I have an excuse - I spent some extra time working on this bad boy, my cardboard AR-15 frankengun. Using measurements from my airsoft M4 and the cardboard lower receiver I made God knows how long ago, I built a basic rifle in around 5 days. It has a working bolt with charging handle, working magazine release, trigger, and can be field stripped by removing the two takedown pins. I based the upper receiver on that of an M16A1, because I hate the ugly brass deflector. The lower is your typical lower receiver, the stock is a 4-position CAR-15 style stock, and it has a smooth handguard and a very skinny barrel. It could still use some work, but for the most part it's finished. [5-29 UPDATE: Added magazine fencing] [5-31 UPDATE: Fixed mushy spring, replaced buttpad]
Don't worry, I'm still working on the AK but I haven't been able to do a whole lot due to school, video games, and general procrasination. I also plan to make a M1911A1, because I haven't made a pistol in a while and my last 1911 was a complete failure.
Welcome to Tuesday.
You are welcome to it.
And something exciting happening later, but for now, there is the usual, get up, get dressed, drink coffee and be ready for work at seven.
Jools wasn't going swimming, so she had a shower then got dressed before heading off just before seven.
When we looked out the back of the house, the sky was black with cloud, except for a small band of clear sky just above the trees on the other side of the valley, and in that gap was the blood red sliver of the waning moon.
And was then gone.
And so with Cleo watching on, I set up the office.
I learn that Denmark at two inches of snow and is still very cold. We actually are due to have sunshine, though ten degrees cooler than a week before.
Now the interesting bit.
At the end of the Deal Road into Dover, is the Duke of York's roundabout with the Duke of York's pub behind it. Why'd they have that name?
Well, behind both is the Duke of York's Military School, a huge site stretching from here to Fort Bergoyne, then to Guston. The school was founded here in 1909 and was a place where the children of military personnel were taught while their parents were posted, probably overseas.
It is still 100% for boarders, but no longer under the control of the MOD, but has a strong military ethic. I'm not going to judge.
Anyway.
The project to photograph Kent churches is mainly for parish church, but if I can get to see otheres: RC, Baptist or whatever, I'll take it.
Last September, for the first time, The Duke of Yorks Military School took part in Heritage Weekend. Sadly, I found out too late to get on a tour, but I struck up e mail correspondence with the organiser and he agreed that I could come and take shots.
Clashes of dates meant that I had to wait two months, but today was the day, and weather full of low winter sunshine. Although shadows inside were very striking.
The school was built here when it moved from Chelsea in 1909, designed by Sir Henry Tanner in the "Hampstead Garden Suburb" style. The entire complex is pretty much of all the same date and style, with the exception of two newer academic buildings.
Focal point is the large clock tower, which has just been renovated.
The chapel has several war memorials dedicated to pupils who gave their lives for their country.
I was met at reception after driving round the ring road past the athletics track and several of the boarding houses. I was met by the guy I had been writing to, he guessed I was Ian as I was laden with camera gear.
The chapel was on the other side of the road, and is a fine example of early 20th century design, the rest of the school is all of a similar style too.
He lets me get on with my task of taking shots, while he tells me some of the history of the school and chapel.
It is very well maintained, with a fairly new rood, but the rest is original and very well kept.
I took a 100 shots or so, said thanks and was gone, all in under an hour.
I went to Tesco to buy unch and came away with: a turkey and stuffing sandwich, a spicy bean wrap and a pack of spicy paprika crisps. Don't shop when you're hungry, kids.
Back home for lunch and back to work, where not much had happened.
On the tellybox at the same time as working, Saudi beat Argentina 2-1 after being a goal down.
Football, eh?
And then two dull 0-0 draws, so once work was done, I decided to go out for a walk.
Not far, just up and down the four streets in the estate, nearly 6,000 steps.
Feeing better.
We had warmed through stuffed peppers again for dinner, and were again totes amazeballs.
As was the wine.
And there was time for one more game to watch as music played on the cat's whiskers.
Phew.

In 1801, His Royal Highness Frederick Duke of York laid the foundation stone in Chelsea of what was to become The Duke of York's Royal Military School, a school for the children of military personnel which opened in 1803. Then in 1909, the school relocated to its present site in Dover, Kent and in 2010, we became the first full state boarding academy, opening our doors to any family wishing to choose this unique and iconic school for their child’s secondary education.
but it leaves us a'ok.
we love, we lose.
we let each other down,
we help each other up.
we lose ourselves,
we find ourselves.
found my old 2GB card that i've been missing for months.
has lots of interesting photos in it.
here's just one i felt like submitting.
Might be December in Minnesota right now but it's been warm enough as of late that some the snow that we received in November is starting to melt.

Rainy day outside, poor light but I needed to take a picture of this beauty so... that's it!
Say "Hola" to Aleja Winters! Sara gave life to this mischievous little girl, a special project (some of you know why...)
Everybody knows her talented work as customizer but I have to say she has one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen.
No words to thank you enough.
Aleja is wearing a pink princess dress by Iris Blakk Fashion. It really suits her, don't you think?
Thank Siri! We really love it!
P.S. I need to take a better picture to show her eyechips. These ones are made by Chaoskatenkosmos and they're amazing!
Phew, I have just finished the last few photos from Day 3 of our trip to Point Pelee (Ontario) and Tadoussac (Quebec) back in May 2018. I wasn't going to post any photos today, but changed my mind tonight. Earlier today, I was out with my daughter, going west of the city to check out a couple of rural Christmas markets. We had an interesting Moose encounter en route. After the markets, she came back with me to help sort through a few things and take a couple of heavy garbage bags to the bin for me. I'm not supposed to lift heavy things after getting 2 cortisone injections. Promise, no more images of this gorgeous old house and the nearby barn! Several of the similar photos were taken with different cameras, so I wanted to compare them.
The DeLaurier Homestead and Trail was such a delight to visit in Point Pelee. I was in seventh heaven, photographing this beautiful old house and the nearby barn. The photo colours vary mainly because I used two different cameras.
"DeLaurier House is approached along a boardwalk at the western edge of the marsh lands at Point Pelee National Park. It is a two-storey, gable-roofed structure, which incorporates two attached log houses. The dwelling is clad in board and batten siding and the shingled roof exhibits two roof pitches with one brick chimney. Windows and doors are asymmetrically arranged on the walls of the house. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.
DeLaurier House is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building because of its historical associations, and its architectural and environmental value.
DeLaurier House is associated with the early settlement of the Point Pelee area. It illustrates the life and times of a small French-Canadian community outside Québec and the agricultural activity on Point Pelee between 1850 and 1966. The reclamation of marshland led to Point Pelee becoming one of Canada’s finest agricultural areas in the latter half of the 19th century. The house is also associated with its builder, Oliver DeLaurier, and with his descendants. The house was used as a neighbourhood tavern for local parties and for community dances. In addition, the house is the oldest remaining structure and illustrates the development of export-oriented farming at Point Pelee during the late 19th century. It is now the interpretive center for the Point Pelee National Park.
DeLaurier House is valued for its good aesthetic and functional design. The integration of the two, simple log houses shows Olivier DeLaurier’s resourcefulness despite limited income and construction experience. The interior also illustrates the building’s evolutionary nature, having been modified for use by two families in the early 1900s and later renovated to accommodate the interpretive programs of the park. Notable for its craftsmanship, the dwelling was clad in board and batten siding and finished with a shingle roof, in order to present a uniform appearance and to demonstrate the DeLaurier’s improved economic and social status in the community."
Mount Bromo (Indonesian: Gunung Bromo), is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.
Mount Bromo sits in the middle of a vast plain called the "Sea of Sand" (Javanese: Segara Wedi or Indonesian: Lautan Pasir), a protected nature reserve since 1919. The typical way to visit Mount Bromo is from the nearby mountain village of Cemoro Lawang. From there it is possible to walk to the volcano in about 45 minutes, but it is also possible to take an organised jeep tour, which includes a stop at the viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan 2,770 m (Indonesian: Gunung Penanjakan). The viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan can also be reached on foot in about two hours. From inside the caldera, sulfur is collected by workers.
Depending on the degree of volcanic activity, the Indonesian Centre for Vulcanology and Disaster Hazard Mitigation sometimes issues warnings against visiting Mount Bromo.
CULTURE
On the fourteenth day of the Hindu festival of Yadnya Kasada, the Tenggerese people of Probolinggo, East Java, travel up the mountain in order to make offerings of fruit, rice, vegetables, flowers and sacrifices of livestock to the mountain gods by throwing them into the caldera of the volcano. The origin of the ritual lies in the 15th century legend where a princess named Roro Anteng started the principality of Tengger with her husband, Joko Seger. The couple were childless and therefore beseeched the assistance of the mountain gods. The gods granted them 24 children but stipulated that the 25th child, named Kesuma, must be thrown into the volcano as a human sacrifice. The gods' request was implemented. The tradition of throwing sacrifices into the volcano to appease these ancient deities continues today and is called the Yadnya Kasada ceremony. Though fraught with danger, some locals risk climbing down into the crater in an attempt to recollect the sacrificed goods that they believe could bring them good luck.
On the Segara Wedi sand plain sits a Hindu temple called Pura Luhur Poten. The temple holds a significant importance to the Tenggerese scattered across the mountain villages, such as Ngadisari, Wonokitri, Ngadas, Argosari, Ranu Prani, Ledok Ombo and Wonokerso. The temple organises the annual Yadnya Kasada ceremony which lasts for about one month. On the 14th day, the Tenggerese congregate at Pura Luhur Poten to ask for blessings from Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa and the God of Mahameru (Mount Semeru). Then the crowd proceeds along the crater edges of Mt Bromo where offerings are thrown into the crater. The major difference between this temple and Balinese ones are the type of stones and building materials. Pura Luhur Poten uses natural black stones from volcanoes nearby, while Balinese temples are mostly made from red bricks. Inside this pura, there are several buildings and enclosures aligned in a mandala zone composition.
ACTIVITY
2004 ERUPTIONS
Mount Bromo erupted in 2004. That eruptive episode led to the death of two people who had been hit by rocks from the explosion.
2010 ERUPTIONS
On Tuesday, 23 November 2010, 16.30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), the Indonesian Centre of Vulcanology and Geology Hazard Mitigation (CVGHM) confirmed the activity status of Mount Bromo at "alert" due to increasing tremor activity and shallow volcanic earthquakes at the mountain. Concerns were raised that a volcanic eruption might be likely to occur. As a precaution local residents and tourists were instructed to remain clear of an area within a radius of three kilometres from the caldera and refugee encampments were erected. The area surrounding the Teggera caldera of Bromo remained off-limits for visitors throughout the remainder of 2010.
Bromo started to erupt ash on Friday 26 November 2010.
On 29 November 2010 Transport Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan announced that Malang's domestic airport would be closed until 4 December 2010. Malang is a city of about 800,000 people is about 25 km west of Mount Bromo. Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport normally handles 10 daily domestic flights from the capital Jakarta. Government volcanologist Surono reported that the volcano was spitting columns of ash some 700 metres into the sky.
2011 ERUPTIONS
The Tengger Caldera was still active in late January 2011, the activity being characterised by fluctuating ongoing eruptions. On 23 January 2011 the Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (CVGHM) (Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi) reported that since 19 December 2010 volcanic ash and incandescent material had been thrown up by eruptive activity resulting in a heavy rain of material that fell around the crater. Continuous eruptions on 21 January caused a thin ash fall mainly in the village areas of Ngadirejo and Sukapura Wonokerto in Probolinggo district. The impact of a heavy rain of volcanic ash from eruptions since 19 December 2010 resulted in disruption of normal activities. By early 2011 concerns were being raised concerning the effect upon the local economy and the potential for long term environmental and health problems amongst the residents in the locality surrounding Mount Bromo. Due to high seasonal rainfall in January 2011 the potential for lahar and lava flow was raised due to the deposits of volcanic ash, sand and other ejected material that had built up. Seismic activity was dominated by tremor vibration and reports of visual intensity and sounds of eruption continued to be reported from the mountain monitoring facility, Bromo Observation Post. People living on the banks of the Perahu Ravine, Nganten Ravine and Sukapura River were alerted to the possibility of lava flows, especially when it was raining heavily in the area around Cemorolawang, Ngadisari and Ngadirejo. Eruptions and volcanic tremors were reported on 21 January and 22 January with activity subsiding on 23 January 2011. On 23 January 2011 at 06:00 am the alert status at Mount Bromo remained at (Level III).
On 23 January 2011 an exclusion zone was recommended for communities living around Mount Bromo. Tourists and hikers were to advised not to come within a radius of 2 km from the active crater. CVGHM stated that they expected warning signs to be installed stating the limit radius of 2 km from the crater. Operational caution was recommended for flights into and leaving Juanda International Airport IATA:SUB in Surabaya. CVGHM recommended the establishment of public areas for the provision of face masks and eye protection. CVGHM also issued a warning to residents to be cautious of ash build up on roofs and other places that may give cause for collapse under the burden of ash.
Further eruptions and the issuing of Aviation Ash advisories on 27 January and 28 January 2011 led to concerns being raised regarding a volcanic ash plume, reported to be drifting eastward toward the air corridors used to access the Ngurah Rai International Airport IATA:DPS in Bali. Airport official Sherly Yunita was reported at the time as stating that concerns about visibility had prompted Singapore Airlines, Jetstar-ValueAir, Air France-KLM, Virgin Blue and Cathay Pacific to cancel several flights to Bali, 340 km to the east. SilkAir also cancelled flights on the 27 January between Singapore and Lombok, an island to the east of Bali. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin, Australia released several Code Red Aviation Ash Advisories pertaining to Mount Bromo (Tengger Caldera), on 27 January. They indicated that ash was observed at altitudes up to 18,000 ft (FL180) extending 200 nautical mi to the south east of the caldera. In other ash advisories of that day the cloud was reported as at times having a 10 km/h drift, both to the east, and to the south east.
DEFORMATION NOVEMBER 2010 - JANUARY 2011
The Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (CVGHM) reported on 13 January 2011, that deformation using tiltmeter measurements indicated an inflation at rate of 5 micro radians between 25 November 2010 and 14 December 2010 and a relatively stable since 15 December 2010 both on Radial Components and Tangential Components.
Deformation measurement using electronic distance measurement equipment compared observations at designated measuring points; POS-BRO, POS-KUR and POS-BAT during the period 25 November 2010 - 20 December 2010 with observations from the period 21 December 2010 - 30 December 2010 indicated the shortening of the distance from the POS-BAT, or inflation. Observations between 30 December 2010 to 23 January 2011 were reported as relatively stable.
Mount Batok is no longer active, and is covered in casuarina (Indonesian: cemara) trees. Mount Widodaren, located beside Mount Batok, contains the cave Widodaren, which is considered sacred by local people.

But really we weren't. We didn't have a care in the world. We smiled, we laughed, we had fun.
Thanks Nickie for being apart of this with me!
His real name is Nick. I call him Nickie, he calls me Mickie. We haven't hung out in forever. I had a lot of fun tonight.

not too crazy about this photo.
again I couldn't really decide between colour and black and white.
I also much prefer the photo I uploaded yesterday thats similar to this, so I might get rid of this soon.

Super Deformed Ultraman heroes and kaiju figures. Apart from four (two Mega block figures and two others) they are all from a Play set. The set was in the form of Ultraman face and when transformed it turned to be the HQ with many vehicles, It was a real cool toy for my son but over the years most of the HQ parts gone missing but a few bits and pieces left somewhere in many boxes stored in the garage. The set was purchased in 2004 but the actual issue year should be earlier than 2004.
It is dark and rainy but I wanted to show a full view of this doll. I have never seen one like it. Usually I see them dressed in Victorian clothes. She is clean and lovely. Next to her is a bowl of metal flowers I got in a flea market. I got them for half price because of the rust spots which I happen to like. The doll is from my thrift store bounty yesterday.
The Bobos, the big shoulders, the tourist with the camera, the shaggy and spiky hair and mohawk with ponytail, the Metal leather and studs, the buffed-up big-hair fitness mom, and the junk food teen punkette with the stripe and buttons and four wrist watches means that this takes place in the '80s…
The crew cut and pompadour, the sweater girls with the poodle skirt and harlequin slacks, the tourist with a camera, the squiggle vinyl and star blasting formica and ladled on chrome, the flying saucer and tail-fin crazes, the tube electronics, and the sturdy ethnic immigrant working mother from a far away exotic place having a culture clash with her daughter, an Americanized Rock & Roll tomboy with the gamine bob and the peddle pushers means that this takes place in the 2080s….
I love graphic design, but I also love decorating interiors from the finishes to the furniture to the colors on the wall, and of course, the accessories, too! I had a good time working with my client, Dr. Rajul Patel, DDS, in developing the look of her new dental office.

Nothing but a row of fiery red orbs on today's weather forecast graphic. A stretch of 100 degree plus days at hand with no relief in sight.
OK, there is some (unintentional) comic relief at hand. The local TV news (always good for a laugh) has tapped into their brain trust once again with these gems of wisdom: "don't get overheated, stick to the shade, if possible, remain in air-conditioned spaces, don't leave animals locked in the car in the hot sun with the windows rolled up, don't leave grandpa staked out on a red-ant hill in the blazing midday hours..." I'm not making this up! (well, all except the last one).
I've got a cool, dark basement to retreat into, but that seems perverse, after months of waiting for the Oregon rain to abate, not enjoying the sun when it's here is out of the question.
A shady place, a body of water, the happy shouts of kids splashing, the smell of sunscreen, the taste of watermelon. This is what Life is made for.

There were no azaleas in bloom in this exquisite small garden when I stopped in one morning in early August just at daybreak, but the perfection of its design and careful grooming were still in evidence.
From the website:
"The beauty of the Azalea Garden changes and evolves throughout the year. A flowering cherry tree heralds the start of the season in mid-May, followed by azaleas and rhododendrons in many hues in late May through June. July blooms include Japanese iris, smoke bush, rosebay rhododendron, and the fragrant sweet azalea. August is quiet and serene, accented by blooming water lilies, and in September and October the garden glows with the colors of fall.
Rhododendrons and azaleas are planted throughout the garden, and many are native to the mountainous regions of the world. The Pink Shell Azalea, Rhododendron vaseyi, is native to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and provides much of the garden’s structure. It grows alongside Rhododendron kiusianum from the mountains of Japan and Rhododendron canadense, Maine's own native azalea.
Charles K. Savage, a life-long resident of Northeast Harbor and owner of the Asticou Inn, designed and built the Asticou Azalea Garden in 1956. He was inspired by his love of native plants, his study of Japanese garden design, and his desire to preserve the plant collection of Beatrix Farrand. When Mrs. Farrand decided to dismantle her Reef Point estate in Bar Harbor, Mr. Savage garnered financial support from John D. Rockefeller Jr. to purchase the plants and build the Asticou Azalea Garden and the Thuya Garden in Northeast Harbor.
The Azalea Garden is styled after a Japanese stroll garden with many traditional Japanese design features adapted for the natural setting and vegetation of coastal Maine. A meandering circular path leads visitors through a succession of garden rooms that inspire serenity and reflection or bring to focus a particularly lovely vista. The garden's design creates an illusion of space, of lakes and mountains and distant horizons. A "sand garden" constructed along the eastern edge of the stream, uses rocks and raked sand to suggest islands and flowing water. The contrast of the sand garden next to the stream enhances the beauty and character of each.
An important aspect of a Japanese Garden is its balance of natural and man-made beauty. Mr. Savage's sensitive use of natural vegetation, stones, and water in combination with azaleas, rhododendrons, and other specimen plants from Reef Point achieve this lovely balance, and the result is a wonderful blend of East and West."

I took today off work, so I could go to the Suffolk Show. But the Suffolk Show was cancelled due to the high winds (evidently a marquee got blown over). So I found myself with some unexpected spare time on my hands. Rather than go home and do all the usual stuff, I thought I'd pop into the Ipswich Art School and have a look at the current exhibition. This piece appealed to me - not sure why, but I like it.
The blurb on the sign says:
Steve Bishop
Christian Dior - J'adore (Mountain Goat), 2008
Taxidermied goat, concrete, chalk, 170 x 105 x 144 cm (with base)
Christian Dior - J'adore (Mountain Goat) is one of a series of three works. Each work is made from a taxidermy animal joined with a concrete perfume bottle shaped figurative form.
"I liked that they were a dual image: on one hand it's a bottle, on the other it's a figure. I saw the taxidermy and the concrete bottle as two figures melding into each other, and also as two objects overlapping. Taxidermy is as much of an object as a coffee cup or any other thing. But they were white and there's an idea of purity involved, and when you see the fur matted and embedded in the concrete it's quite jarring."
Bishop conceived these three pieces as "containers for something". When joined the taxidermy and concrete combine opposites: soft and hard material, real and designed forms, nature and construction. Embedding one object into another like this he has literally created an "embodiment". Relating the idea that sculpture is both an object and a vessel to the history of the religious worship of idols, where a form both represents and manifests subjects.
I tried lightening this image even more, but then found that I lost the colour of the sky. The original was just a black silhouette and a richer sky, but thought I would lighten a little to show a bit of feather detail. I do have a shot or two of a different Sharp-tailed Grouse, taken in "proper" light, that I will post later.

The LAST Nanton Count was originally supposed to have taken place on 28 December 2013, but the weather forecast warned of a Flash Freeze, and so it was postponed till 5 January 2014. The weather was bright and sunny for us that day. However, photos taken on that day did not show how brutally cold it was! On the hour-long drive south of Calgary, we hit -34C (-29.2F)!!!!! It did eventually warm up a few degrees and thankfully, there was no or very little wind, which makes all the difference. The only walking we had to do was when we called in at various farms and homesteads. One backroad in particular had too much snow on it, so we had to leave that one out. Also, there was just too much snow in many of the farmyards, so we weren't able to check out all the trees and bushes as thoroughly as we would like to have done. I absolutely love the scenery on this Count, so I was able to get a few shots to show some typical snowy landscapes.
THIS year's Nanton Count was so different, with snow seen only in places, making the roads so much easier to drive, and temperatures that were much milder. As usual, I didn't get many birds photos, but I was thrilled to get a few shots of one of the Sharp-tailed Grouse. There were two of them on the fence at this farm.
After the Count, we returned to the meeting place at the home of Leah and Bill, where they had prepared a delicious supper that they so generously provide each year for us (as well as a breakfast snack). You couldn't wish for a nicer family (includes their son, Mike, who puts in a lot of effort organizing this annual Count each year).
I'm posting Andrew Hart's E-bird Summary of our small (just four of us in one car) group's day (leader Tony Timmons). Won't be of interest to most of you, but it helps me remember what we see from year to year!

For those who don't know, I have a very specific reason for posting in Wardrobe_Remix. This pic's not as tasty as I hoped it might be; I don't like the way my shoulders look, or my out-of-control rictus. BUT I've had a truly hideous day and I'm determined to get something out of it.
The A List! has settled into a nice niche of wonderful people, clubs, djs, musicians, sim owners, event planners, artists and creators.
But, the best part is that now both Xavi and I have our own resource for the best of the best in Second Life. I just wait to see that orange A List logo pop up and I know it's either going to be an outrageous party, an elegant ballroom affair, live music or a peaceful exploratory evening on a beautiful sim.
Bella Vida has disco night each month. They redecorate the place to reflect the times. It's always fun to pop in on that one.
Dance 4 Life is one of the newer clubs in Second Life. High above the NYC skyline on the rooftop, you can dance your night away in a beautiful, urban setting.
The other night I stopped off at TrueHouse. True to it's name, the house was sweet and fine. I stayed for quite a while... only taking one picture, 'cause the music was so good... I was so chilled.
DJ Benny Klang was at Haad Rin the other night. From Germany, Benny mixed some great tunes for the beach crowd there that night.
Daemon! We always shout when we hit the floor at Derailed on Sub Zero. Along with dj's Ware & Blabbermouth, DJ Daemon Chadeau is one of our favorite noize makers. We always have a great time there.
DJ Tasty was spinning late one night over at Electro Violence. So I hit the tp for a brief break from building. Always a great way to refocus on the build!
WET Builder Robertson sent a tp with a plea that he needed to take a break. Blackhearts club is a favorite for the 80's music lovers. DJ Thalie was spinning and I always love her sets.
Speaking of dj's, I just love DJ Space Grelling. He and Harriet greet everyone with a friendly smile and shout. And his sets are just so fun. I swear I could hang out at alt7 all day long! LOL!
Check out Bay Vista Live Music scene where you might catch Maxmillion Kleene singing his sweet songs with that mesmerizing voice. I stopped off one day, sitting at the table listening.
And finally, for those who need a romantic evening locked in each other's arms, head towards the legendary, Avilion Ballroom.
The grey siblings weren't so easy to round up as we planned (mental note: don't set up foster homes and vet appointments until the cats are actually in custody). Had to come back with the ol' drop trap a couple days later. But we got 'em (plus a bonus pregnant feral). They've been in our #fosterbathroom for the past few days, not sure what the hell is happening. They will be seeing @theneighborhoodvet later today to get checked out, then they'll be ready for their foster homes. Let's hope they decide they want to be indoor cats after all this effort! #streetcatnomore #strabismuscat #eartip instagr.am/p/Ca5MWEZuZ3r/
