Frail but still standing, the Hundred Guinea Oak is now over 600 years old. William John Chute who owned The Vyne in the late Georgian period was offered a hundred pounds and later a hundred guineas for the timber.

He flatly refused to sell the oak which you can see for yourself at the top of the lime avenue.

Don't you worry there, my honey

We might not have any money

But we've got our love to pay the bills

Maybe I think you're cute and funny

Maybe I wanna do what bunnies do with you, if you know what I mean

Oh, let's get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France

Let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance

Let's get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants

From way up there, you and I, you and I

Well, you might be a bit confused

And you might be a little bit bruised

But baby how we spoon like no one else

So I will help you read those books

If you will soothe my worried looks

And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

Oh, let's get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France

Old houses always have vibes. This one was particularly interesting. It is maintained beautifully, but has some rather strange vibes coming off of it is in an area that could be very busy. It brings nothing to the area because it’s been closed for quite some time.. i’ve always thought when I see really interesting properties if walls could talk, what would they say? This house didn’t seem to be able to share. No one seems to know the story of the closures of every business that has tried to survive in this historic building. The only comments I obtained from a couple of locals is that the place is haunted and very creepy.. one lady shared a worker has been coming and going doing some restoration and his constant companion, a small, mixed breed dog stops, staring at the door, and refuses to go in even though her owner is in there. That is a curious thing. As the little dog is quite adventurous per the lady, and always accompanies him on all jobs . hmmm

I'm not a big fan of feathers but it's been a while and I do love a good challenge which feathers tend to be. Thankfully, our white chicken just finished molting so I knew I could find a fairly decent feather. Well, that turned out to be the least of my problems. I've been at it for the better part of the day and this is about the 7th or 8th stack, all the others failed from three different lens and I tried everything. Sometimes I just can't figure out why some stacks work when others fail! It can be a bit frustrating but I don't like to give up. I decided to go back to my faithful 55mm and on the second stack it worked! For this shot, I placed the feather on a mirror with a piece of black glitter paper for background. I adjusted the paper a bit to tame back the bokeh. I liked the look and for the final pic I turned the image 90 deg, it looked like a dancer and that works for me!

For the group: Looking close... on Friday!. Theme: "Feathers (black and white)" The length of the feather is about 2.25 in.

I took this shot in my garden on February 24th I was not expecting to be using the camera at all that day . We had just had a third storm and it had been raining heavily for hours . After it finished I went down the garden to check for fence damage there was none but a lot of standing water. I was amazed when I got to the bottom of the garden to see the crocus I planted into a lawn were looking surprisingly really good . I went back and got the camera and Mary and we enjoyed this little miracle. We have a saying round here that may sound rude but its actually a compliment an these crocus are clearly “ tough little buggers “ They have survived the wettest February in England since records began

Thank you for your visit, most appreciated!

SMALL HOUSE

Small house, but throw a ball through it some time

and it becomes quite large. See all those metres,

aren’t they ours? And stroll perhaps as if

you don’t know where you’re going: space is

stretching out and yawns between the walls. Behold:

the wandering that binds the rooms together

has been painted white. There are some stairs,

a hat stand in the cupboard, doors. As if

by accident it lies there like a country

lane, where roads determine goal and starting

point and not the other way around. If you

go out for bread and then return you’ll see

that we can organise a picnic. Quick!

Go now! The shrinking can’t be far away.

Your love, lifting me higher

Than I've ever been lifted before

So keep it it up

Quench my desire

And I'll be at your side

Forevermore

You know your love (your love keeps lifting me)

Keep on lifting me (love keeps lifting me)

Higher (lifting me)

Higher and higher (higher)

I said your love (your love keeps lifting me)

Keep on (love keeps lifting me)

Lifting me (lifting me)

Higher and higher (higher)

Listen

Now, once I was downhearted

Disappointment was my closest friend

But then you came and it soon departed

And you know, he never

Showed his face again

That's why your love (your love keeps lifting me)

Keep on lifting me (love keeps lifting me)

Higher (lifting me)

Higher and higher (higher)

I said your love (your love keeps lifting me)

Keep on (love keeps lifting me)

Lifting me (lifting me)

Higher and higher (higher), alright

I'm so glad I finally found you

Yes, that one in a million, girl

And now with my loving arms around you

Honey, I can stand up

And face the world

Later, I saw people swimming in this very calm but cold water.

Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smiles fade but the memories last forever.

Was unable to do spring cleanup or planting this year. Couldn't even find anyone to hire. Therefore, we have nothing but weeds. I did my best early one morning to enjoy it anyways.

I spotted this juvenile Peregrine Falcon just as he was finishing up a breakfast of "freshly un-cooked" bird, courtesy of the maternal catering service.

Junior clearly had a look of deep culinary satisfaction on his face, though he was admittedly less than prepared for a formal portrait. With his feathers completely disheveled and heavily stained from his morning meal, he looked exactly like what we used to call "ridden-hard and put-away-wet."

Unfortunately, my own schedule forced me to pack up and leave before he had a chance to freshen up and look the part of the sleek, gorgeous speedster of the sky he is destined to become.

______________________________

Powerful and fast-flying, the Peregrine Falcon hunts medium-sized birds, dropping down on them from high above in a spectacular stoop. They were virtually eradicated from eastern North America by pesticide poisoning in the middle 20th century. After significant recovery efforts, Peregrine Falcons have made an incredible rebound and are now regularly seen in many large cities and coastal areas.

Peregrine Falcons are very strong fliers and often reported to be the fastest bird in the world. Their average cruising flight speed is 24 to 33 mph, increasing to 67 mph when in pursuit of prey. When stooping, or dropping on prey with their wings closed, it's been calculated that Peregrine Falcons can achieve speeds of 238 mph.

When hunting, Peregrines start by watching from a high perch or by flapping slowly or soaring at great height. Stoops begin 300–3,000 feet above their prey and end either by grabbing the prey or by striking it with the feet hard enough to stun or kill it. They then catch the bird and bite through the neck to kill it. Peregrine Falcons do have other hunting methods, including level pursuit, picking birds out of large flocks, and occasionally even hunting on the ground. Though the Peregrine Falcon is an elite predator, it does have its own predators, including Gyrfalcons, eagles, Great Horned owls, and other Peregrines.

A popular view for certain but I can never resist a shot of the castle when I'm in the area and I liked the moody sky enhanced by the IR rendition. It has always been a popular place but the pandemic has pushed it over the edge and is much more like a holiday village now..........and a campervan car park!!! This was taken about 1/2hr after sunset when the beach had emptied a bit.
