Albert Frost concert at the Warehose Theater
Windhoek is a quiet place, but every now and then a performance brings much of the music-loving public in the country together. So you end up with 300 people packed in the diminutive Warehouse Theatre on Tal Street. The venue's name comes from its previous incarnation as a brewery warehouse. The brewery was decomissioned a long ago and the building was divided between the Crafts Centre and the Warehouse Theatre. The Crafts Centre is a hub for businesses marketing local and not-so-local artifacts to visiting tourists and the only decent coffee terrace in Namibia. Amazingly, neither places has much of a web presence, although the Theater maintains a Facebook page, www.facebook.com/WarehouseTheatreWindhoek.
The Theater started its February 2013 schedule with a performance by Albert Frost, a South African blues guitar musician. Albert's solo style was quite unlike anything I've seen before in that he would use a guitar to create a loop that he would use as a background for the next guitar, with which he would make an intro and then create another loop, and so on. To the end, each song envolved into a complex performance, but had to work hard for it, too - Windhoek's evenings rarely go below 35C these days and the venue was steaming.
