But as autumn approaches, certain influences both inside and outside the plant cause the chlorophylls to be replaced at a slower rate than they are being used up. During this period, with the total supply of chlorophylls gradually dwindling, the "masking" effect slowly fades away. Then other pigments that have been present (along with the chlorophylls) in the cells all during the leaf's life begin to show through. These are carotenoids they give us colorations of yellow, brown, orange, and the many hues in between.

The reds, the purples, and their blended combinations that decorate autumn foliage come from another group of pigments in the cells called anthocyanins. These pigments are not present in the leaf throughout the growing season as are the carotenoids. They develop in late summer in the sap of the cells of the leaf, and this development is the result of complex interactions of many influences - both inside-and outside the plant. Their formation depends on the breakdown of sugars in the presence of bright light as the level of a certain chemical (phosphate) in the leaf is reduced.

But in the fall, phosphate, along with the other chemicals and nutrients, moves out of the leaf into the stem of the plant. When this happens, the sugar-breakdown process changes, leading to the production of anthocyanin pigments. The brighter the light during this period, the greater the production of anthocyanins and the more brilliant the resulting color display that we see. When the days of autumn are bright and cool, and the nights are chilly but not freezing, the brightest colorations usually develop.

Online photo exhibition is the last 3 days! For details, check the description. I was planning to actually exhibit it at a gallery in Tokyo in April, but it was postponed at the request of the government.

COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 is attacking all over the world. Japan is no exception, and everyday is becoming more difficult. As a photographer, I also thought about life and postponed the exhibition according to the government's request. The Japanese government does not support artists. So I decided to hold an online photo exhibition. This is free to watch.

The photo exhibition should be in the dark in the room at night, preferably with the playlist. Look at the brightness of mobile terminals at 1/3.

In the late afternoon we found another pride of 18 lions at the edge of the western sector of the Serengeti. There were 2 large males and quite a number of young cubs in this pride.

This is a different pride than the previous lion posts of the western corridor. As mentioned we saw that other pride with 18 lions 4 or 5 times but there was never an adult male present.

"Merlins are small, fierce falcons that use surprise attacks to bring down small songbirds and shorebirds," according to allaboutbirds.org. Maybe that explains why I spotted this Merlin perched high in the treetops at Chicago's Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary, a place where lots of songbirds pass through during Spring migration. The scientific name for these predators, which are only about the size of a pigeon, is Falco columbarius.

No one said that tears do not escorreriam by the face, but smiling maybe you can use those tears as spiritual cleansing and let it rain. Rain until the sun reappears and overflow you from light. No one said that you would be able to see clearly everything around you, but smiling maybe you will rediscover the path after tripping a few times. Nobody said it would be easy and its not!.

Last but not leat we arrive at the former small fishing village of Arromanches-les-Bains.

After the invasion this village turned into a busy logistic centre, due to the construction of the artificial "Mulberry harbor".

All Allied troops were supplied frome here.

The remains of this harbor are still visible off the coast.

It was fascinating to watch him. He would shout at his does, keep them and the little ones together, then he would trot off, roaring, check his perimeter then come back. But it was pure poetry watching him move.

Stags constantly chivvy, circle, and track the hinds to keep them together and prevent them from wandering off.

The constant all night vigilance was showing though. He was clearly winding down by 11am.

An imperial stag has 14 or more points on their antlers.

Beautiful, but Moody September……

Last September was quite rainy here in Belgium, though not cold…I decided to walk with my dog that lovely , calm afternoon , around lovely Lake Genval…

A certain moment I entered into the Yachting Club lovely area, and proceeded onto its wooden platforms to take some pictures. It was really so lovely and calm, though cloudy..

Somehow, I missed travelling but I feel stuck here at home on a loop. Anyways, I hope all of us can travel and wander our hearts off soon. ♡

but I am arrogant enough to mean "lower forms of animal life" when I refer to animals. Thus, when I say that I like animals, I do not necessarily include my own species, among whom are large numbers of individuals for whom I have no fondness at all, and some whom I hold in utter contempt. Indeed, I sometimes wonder why "You're an animal" is an insult; it seems to me that, if animals could talk, "You're a human" would be one of their favorite insults :-)

So much area to hike with so few people to encounter. This is just at the edge of our beautiful valley.

Lovely, but strange, alien and perhaps somewhat exotic, red shapes that seem to be engaged in an elaborate dance. Captured in the intriguing city of Glasgow.
