Doing some landscape photography along a slough, this guy saw me and ran lickity-split for @ 90+ yards. Didn't make a peep. Visited for @ 30 seconds, and then kept going.

My friend Lisa, who grew up on a ranch said it was an Australian Shepherd.

we saw this blond male a few times in Mara North Conservancy, while he was in the company of a female of a small pride. Initially she refused to mate with him but we heard afterwards that they were seen while mating.

I did have a steam and fence shot, but I've left that at home, this one is a reminder of the snow just before Christmas so festive and now just a distant memory it would seem.

The way is narrow, but there is always room for a little panache.

Tiny rolled wing stone fly on the edge of a rose petal.

Ranges from 5mm to 13mm, usually under 10mm.

I didn’t get the illumination from the flash that I would have likedd on this one, wrong settings. Nevertheless I still find it rather appealing. I was scanning the flowers through my 20x magnifier on the back of the Lcd when I came across this elegant fellow. I took two shots in quick succession, he was in the first but not the second….

Cloudy but dry start to the last month of 2021 in Vancouver

I captured this image of this majestic mountain which lies in Washington State, USA right from my home, 100+km away, in Vancouver, Canada,

Mount Baker[...] is one of the snowiest places in the world; in 1999, Mount Baker Ski Area [...] set the world record for recorded snowfall in a single season—1,140 in (2,900 cm).

At 10,781 ft (3,286 m), it is the third-highest mountain in Washington State[...]. It is visible from much of Greater Victoria, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Greater Vancouver, and, to the south, from Seattle (and on clear days Tacoma) in Washington.

For the interested I created this Spooky Tabletop shot by simply Bluetac'ing a wobbly translucent toy bat on to my Mac screen, whilst displaying a Web shot I took at Tarn Hows (Cumbria) and ‘Click’ this ‘Spooky Night’ shot was taken! So much area to hike with so few people to encounter. This is just at the edge of our beautiful valley.

Shame about the stalk, but never mind. Funnily enough I posted the wrong shot - there is a broadly similar one I put on Facebook that I liked better. M.E. strikes again - brain's like fudge today after the trip up there.

This capture was taken on our third night in Acadia / Bar Harbor area. The colorful sunset was over ... but a late blue hour capture with the clouds hanging was still possible.

Here I warmed up the white balance and then reduced the orange color saturation to give this balanced lighting from the town of Bar Harbor out onto the boats and pier over the water.

Did not want too long of an exposure here, just enough to smooth out the water and reflection, but not enough to have the boats moving too much. So I set the aperture to f/8 and shutter to 30 seconds, and this then required ISO 800 for the exposure I wanted.

The old town of Roving, Croatia, is quite small but a delight to walk around.

The most terrifying thing about October is all of the events. I might fall over. My inventory is bonechilling.

There's a whole bunch of new stuff from Zibska, like the lovely dress at Rock Your Rack 2017, the stunning eyeshadow from The Nightmare, or more great lipstick from over at Industrie! Definitely check out the last event, a new one with lots of great minimalist and industrial inspired items. Highly recommend.

No! Not taken this Autumn, but a previously unposted shot from January this year. I don't normally go back in the archives too much but in tribute to the forthcoming Short Eared Owl season (and the fact it has rained or been miserable weather for at least 2 weeks) I have included a shot of my closest encounter to date with a perched bird.

I had spent a few hours at the site when one of the group decided they needed to go home. As this owl was perched on a post which they would have to walk past I decided to go along too and see how far we got before it flew off. Foolishly didn't take my tripod so had to struggle hand holding the 600mm - but I think the fact he/she didn't fly until we were quite close gave me extra strength.

Taken during the golden hour.

Although we do have a year round population, with some breeding in the North, numbers are swelled in the winter with migrants from Scandanavia, Russia and Iceland. I think this is one of them.

Things are a bit slow when I’m relegated to shooting a succulent in my backyard, but my plant seemed in the mood for a portrait, and I was too lazy to look elsewhere. So here she is.

The Succulent:
