BPD Employee Celebrated for 50 Years of Service

On December 8, 2020 Police Commissioner Michael Harrison along with members of the Communications Section and the Radio Repair Shop celebrated and honored John Hardesty as he completed 50 years of service with the Baltimore Police Department.

On December 7, 1970 at the age of 23, following a tour in the United States Army, John Hardesty was hired by the Baltimore Police Department as a “Dark Room Specialist”. Eleven years later, he transferred to the Communications Division as a Radio Maintenance Technician.

In July of 1997, John was promoted to Radio Maintenance Supervisor where he was tasked with supervising and providing guidance and training to a team of technicians. In this role, John was vital to the planning and development of the communications system and its evolution of what it has become.

His contributions not only impact the police department, but the city as a whole.

Today, John remains responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and troubleshooting of the newly installed dispatch consoles in the Emergency Communications Center, located at police headquarters.

From time to time, you will also find John Hardesty back in the radio shop assisting officers with their radios and repairing a variety of electrical equipment.
