Finally another HDR! This one is of the Palace Theatre Box Office in Manchester, NH. I was a little apprehensive about putting this picture up cause of the noise in the door frame. I adjusted it a little bit in Lightroom to make it an acceptable amount.

More about the Palace Theatre.

Azteca Theater

838 F Street

Fresno, CA

Not the greatest picture, but I just wanted to chronicle this decaying under-utilized theater in its current condition, with this quizzical message on its marquee and a faded poster from Tyreke Evans' NBA Rookie of the Year campaign.

As a Central Valley city, Fresno shares more with Sacramento, but the most ubiquitous signs of NBA fandom in Fresno suggest that it's L.A. Lakers territory. It is just barely in the southern half of the state, and there are Von's supermarkets here instead of Safeway, so maybe it makes sense. But it really makes zero sense that this poster of superstar potential squandered by the Maloof'd Sacramento Kings should be hanging here in lieu of upcoming attractions.

built as Comus Theatre for vaudeville, later renamed Strand, then Lyric in 30s when building remodeled with Art Deco facade • served as temporary mortuary after tornado devastated Tupelo, 1936 • saved from demolition by Tupelo Community Theatre, 1984, now bears organization's name • history • vintage photosCinema Treasures • Tupelo is Elvis Presley's hometown, host to annual Elvis Festival

Plaque: The Lyric Theatre - Home of the Tupelo Community Theatre. The Lyric Theatre was built in 1912 by Mr. R.F. Goodlett. Originally named The Comus, it hosted live vaudeville shows. In the 1930's it became a part of the Malco chain of movie houses and the name was changed to the Lyric Theatre. Its sturdy brick walls made the Lyric one of the few buildings to escape the fury of the 1936 tornado. A popular local legend tells that Elvis "stole" his first kiss in the balcony of the Lyric.

Sixteen visionary leaders founded Tupelo Community Theatre in the spring of 1969 when they formed an organization to "develop, promote, teach and stimulate interest in the dramatic arts." Those charter board members were Marilyn Bank, Sandy Ford, Martha and Rowland Geddie, Martha and Bill Hitch, Jack Kellum, Linda Kinsey, Ruth and Gus Liveakos, Mary Alice McAlister, Margaret Anne Murphey, Jerry Napier, Jean Pettis, Edith Thomas, and Charlotte Westbrook.

In its early years TCT performed in venues all over the city and in a converted church building on East Main Street. In 1984, the Lyric had outlived its usefulness as a movie theatre and TCT purchased the historic theatre and restored it to be its permanent home.

Thank you to the thousands of volunteers and patrons who have contributed to the success of Tupelo Community Theatre.

Warner theater, Torrington, CT. There was perfect sun behind me and heavy clouds in front. The top of the theater cut between the two nicely.

Many Turkish words are from French. The Sultans were in love with the French culture and made sure that many words are imported from France.

A few examples:

Banlieu = banlieu

Shezlong = Chaise-longue

Viraj = Virage

Tretuvar = Trottoir

Plaj = Plage

Plato = Plateau

Kuafor = Coiffeur

Aksesuar = Accessoire

At one point there were 5000 words of French origin in the Turkish language.

Zoe Theatre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zoe Theatre is a historic movie theater located at 209 North Madison Street in Pittsfield, Illinois

Zoe Preservation Society

Since 2008, Kaye Iftner, who is the treasurer of the Zoe Preservation Society, or ZPS, has had her group working towards completely renovating the Zoe and even attempting to bring it back to life in the near future. The project estimated to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, has not come to fruition.

But with the support of the community through the use of fundraisers, volunteering, and helping spread awareness of ZPS, in the near future, Pike County could very well have its own fully functional movie theatre.

The ZPS has also received help from the Pittsfield High School’s Social Problems class, who is making a collection of flyers, presentations, surveys, and even updating this Wikipedia page. Kaye Iftner has provided the class with documents and information to help update this page and teach the class about their purpose.

History

The Zoe Theatre was built by Clark Armentrout, originally from Louisiana, Missouri. Before he built the Zoe, there was the Clark Theatre. Armentrout and his son Russel owned both the Clark and Zoe Theatres in the city of Pittsfield.

Clark first opened the Zoe Theatre on September 17, 1950. As well as the Zoe, Clark also owned the Clark Drive-In at Summer Hill and the Clark Theatres in Barry, Louisiana, Missouri and Shelbina, Missouri.

The Zoe Theatre was named after Clark's daughter, Zoe Armentrout, who died on September 26, 1992. She lived in Pittsfield and was buried at the Pittsfield West Cemetery.

After Clark died in 1960, both the Clark and Zoe Theatres closed.

The theater received an Annual Merit Award in Theatre Catalog's annual design review in 1951; it was one of thirty-six theaters nationwide and two in Illinois to earn the award.

The theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 2, 2013.

Construction

The theater was designed by Ted Dell whose many talents included genuine artistry.

The building has a striking structural glass and stainless steel front. Predominant colors when the Zoe first opened was rose and green with a smooth flowing marine theme carried out in the design.

The air conditioning and heating system was the most modern and most automatic type available in 1950. The seats were more widely spaced than usual. A special feature of the theatre was a "cry baby" room for babies.

The entry doors are solid panes of glass. Locks and closing mechanisms are concealed in small metal strips along the top and bottom.

General Contractors were Eugene Dark and Sons, sheet metal work was done by Galloway Hardware of Pleasant Hill, Rex Fenton installed the heating and air conditioning units which are located in a small basement beneath the stage and Mike Carroll was the painting contractor.

Excavating was done by Pittsfield Sand and Gravel Company. Gravel was furnished by Ed Beard and concrete work was done by Frank Cawthon's crew. Building materials were furnished by Alexander Lumber Company. Glass was furnished by Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.

The marquee and box office was made and installed by C Bendsen Company of Decatur.

Lately I like the feel of Little Tokyo, it keeps changing in a very good way, I especially like the newer Cafe Dulce, which opened a couple of months ago. They have very good baked goods, all made daily on site, with a good variety of French and Japanese breads, cakes and pastries. Everything I've tried has been very good, including their baguette sandwiches. And to compliment their baked goods, they also have a full coffee bar with skilled baristas serving LA Mill coffee. I have to be in Little Tokyo at least twice a week, and now I actually look forward to it, especially since I know I can enjoy a good cappuccino or a latte before heading back home.

So I've only worked about 5 shifts at my new job, and today I worked by myself. I had to open and close the box office, which I've never even been show how to do, and I still basically feel incompetent in everything I do. I totally kicked butt, though. I'm pretty sure I didn't mess anything up and I was able to answer everyone's questions. How awesome am I? Totally awesome.

Buffalo,NY has just started demolition and I will be shooting as often as I can to record the process.

It was a place I spent many days and nights.

I've watched many sports teams there including being a season ticket holder ( 5 seats) for both the Buffalo Stampede and the Buffalo Sabres until it closed.

They also had many concerts here.

I saw bands from 1968 ( Jimi Hendrix opened for The Monkees ! ! ! WTF ! ! ! )

up to when it closed.

Other bands we saw there multiple times were:

Frank Zappa , Pink Floyd , The Grateful Dead , Eagles / Don Henley , Eric Clapton , ZZ Top , Alice Copper , Fleetwood Mac , King Crimson , Savoy Brown , Jethro Tull , Foghat , Peter Frampton and a ton of others.

Led Zepplin was in there too LOL
