This retro Korean VHS release of "The Sword and the Sorcerer" (1982), on the heavy-hitter Cinetrust label, highlights the film's premiere at the Myeongbo Cinema and heralds its mix of horror, thrills, skin, and more. The film was a surprise hit at the US boxoffice upon its release and inspired a boomlet of imitators. Very common tape back in the day - now fairly rare in mint condition.

Dictator is almost finished in centers and collections are around 21 crores.Movie can be termed as average but producers lost money as they budget is above 30+ crores.Hope balakrishna’s 100th film will be a biggest hit in his career

Mount Hope Theatre Box Office, I'm sorry to see it looking so shabby. The lovely mint green Vitrolite is a real treasure.

This building isn't technically on their "walking tour," but it's the reason I came into town. The cool look of this building is definitely underappreciated.

The spook-out classic "The Amityville Horror" (1979) gets the VHS treatment via Korea's steadfast BP label. The film, steeped in backstory, did fairly decent boxoffice upon release, and has developed a loyal following, thanks possibly to its moderate-octane jump scares and creepy lullaby score by Lalo Schifrin. The film spawned a remake and at least 15 (!) sequels and spin-offs. Rare Korean tape, seen only once in a haunting...

German postcard by Ross Verlag, no. 110/6. Photo: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Monte Blue in White Shadows in the South Seas (W.S. Van Dyke, Robert Flaherty, 1928).

Plot: Filmed on location in Tahiti, White Shadows in the South Seas was originally intended as a project for famed documentary filmmaker Robert Flaherty, whose Nanook of the North had cleaned up at the boxoffice. At first given complete artistic control, Flaherty began faltering in terms of keeping cast and crew organized; even worse, he moved too slowly to suit his parent studio MGM. More and more directorial authority was relegated to Flaherty's assistant, the phenominally fast W. S. "Woody" Van Dyke. Frustrated, Flaherty resigned (some reports claim that he fell ill and was taken off the project), and the film became solely the responsibility of Van Dyke. Despite the wails from the pro-Flaherty camp about "compromise" and "bastardization", the finished White Shadows in the South Seas is a superlative work. Loosely based on a 1919 book by Frederick O'Brien, the film charts the denigration of the South Sea islands and its denizens thanks to the intervention of white civilization. Monte Blue plays a alcoholic doctor who is disgusted by the negative effects of European colonization. He sails away to an island still untouched by "white shadows", where he falls in love with native girl Raquel Torres. Enchanted by the idyllic lifestyle of the islanders, Blue reacts with horror when he sees a group of white men sailing into view, bringing their usual seductive trinkets of alcohol and cigarettes. Attempting to quell the invasion, Blue is killed. As her island falls victim to civilization, Raquel mourns over her lover's grave. Gorgeously photographed, White Shadows in the South Seas is a masterful blend of drama and documentary. Most surviving prints do not include the clumsily constructed talkie sequences, wherein Monte Blue teaches Raquel Torres how to whistle (this scene works far better when conveyed silently). Stalwart, durable Monte Blue (1887-1963) was an American romantic leading man of the silent cinema. Blue started as a stuntman for D. W. Griffith and made his debut as an extra in The Birth of a Nation (1915), which was his first film. Gradually moving to support roles for both Griffith and Cecil B. DeMille, Blue earned his breakthrough role as Danton in Griffith's classic Orphans of the Storm (1921) with Lillian Gish and Dorothy Gish. He rose to stardom as a rugged romantic lead opposite Hollywood's top silent stars, among them Gloria Swanson, Clara Bow, and Norma Shearer. He made a relatively easy transition into talkies as he had a fine, cultivated voice, but, at the same time, lost most of his investments when the stock market crashed in 1929. By the 1930s the aging star had moved back into small, often unbilled parts, continuously employed, however, by his old friend DeMille and Warner Bros.

New is a relative term as the theatre was erected in 1805, replacing the Old Orchard Street Theatre which had obtained a royal patent in 1768 enabling the use of the title 'Theatre Royal', the first to achieve this outside London.

A major fire in 1862 destroyed the interior of the building a rebuilding programme included the construction of the current entrance.

This retro cover for "The Awakening" (1980), a somewhat forgotten internationalized scare outing, plays up the film's Egyptology elements. Though it opened to 'dissy reviews and tepid boxoffice upon its release, the movie's rep has grown steadily over time. Featuring A-listers Charlton Heston and Susannah Yori. Once a "common" in Korea, the tape has become quite scarce.
