Dear Flickr friends, today you may take a look at San Nicolò di Capodimonte forecourt and its boundless view on Paradise Gulf.
Have a great weekend!
Taken in San Nicolò, Camogli, Italy.
Absolutely to View Large On Black for better details of the forecourt and the Gulf. Thanks.
Personally one of the challenges I face with photographing landscapes of this magnitude is to capture an image of this landscape in such a way a to convey to the viewer the shear scale and vastness of these places.
... Boundless Millenia on display, 320 million years old give or take, it certainly brings life into context.

Once again Jeff and I decided to embark on an adventure exploring a new area of hills. Having “scouted” the area via google earth, we figured a particular spot could yield some different scenes of California’s rolling hills. After huffing and puffing with uphill and downhill, we finally emerged at the top of a hill to overlook the surrounding hills. In some ways it was similar to other viewpoints we had visited but this one was also different. Being at a lower elevation, we looked more directly at the rolling hills than an eagle eye view from above. Here, we were able to see more overlapping layers of hills from the near field continuing all the way back in the distance. The other key difference was the light. Both of us were used to shooting sidelight that helps create light and shadow play but we found ourselves shooting more directly into the sun. It was different and the backlit lighting created a completely different atmosphere. Still, the green rolling hills were highlight.
In the celebrated metropolis of London, during the year 1837, an era wherein steam reigned as the sovereign of invention and the harbinger of man's mastery over nature, there was convened a conclave of women unparalleled in their intellect and indomitable in their courage. The Aetherian Coalescence, they were titled, each a luminary in her own right, united under the banner of progress and the pursuit of the ethereal realms.
Lady Penelope Hargreaves, the scion of a lineage graced with the acumen of engineering, her hands adept at weaving the intricate lattices of clockwork that gave pulse to their airborne leviathan. Dr. Arabella Swithenbank, whose steam engines thrummed with a vigor that was the very essence of Prometheus’ fire. Miss Theodosia Barrow , an enchantress of the voltaic forces, her devices casting the brilliance of a thousand captured lightning bolts across the span of their craft. Dame Guinevere Loxley, the cartographer whose charts rivalled the celestial maps of the ancients, a guiding star in their odyssey. And Miss Isambard Brunella, a machinist of such deftness that her creations spoke of a harmony between the artisan's touch and the unyielding metals of the earth.
The vessel of their dreams, "The Celestial Peregrine," stood poised upon the cusp of dawn, her silhouette a testament to humanity's ascendancy over the bonds of gravity, her engines a symphony of steam and steel. As the first light of morning kissed the Thames, the airship ascended, a ballet of gears and gales, into the empyrean canvas above.
Yet, as is the wont of fate, the skies unveiled their tempestuous heart, challenging these daughters of Icarus with a squall of such ferocity that it seemed as though the firmament itself sought to reclaim its dominion from the hands of mortals. But amidst the maelstrom, the resolve of The Aetherian Coalescence shone with the steadfastness of the North Star, and it was by their unity and the fortitude of their creation that “The Celestial Peregrine” was guided safely through the tumult, descending not in wreckage upon the tumultuous sea but upon the embrace of the verdant earth with the grace of a nightingale alighting upon its nest.
From this odyssey emerged a revelation, a spark of genius that would illuminate the path of progress henceforth. They devised an apparatus, a marvel of valvular alchemy, which would render the steam engines of the future not only more robust against the caprices of the tempest but also more gracious in their consumption of the coals that fed them. This mechanism, born from the exigencies of their voyage, became the cornerstone of an epoch wherein the skies teemed with the silhouettes of airships, each a scion of "The Celestial Peregrine," carrying aloft not only the affluent but all who yearned for the splendor of the heavens.
Thus, The Aetherian Coalescence had not simply touched the skies; they had transmuted the very fabric of human aspiration, setting the celestial highways abuzz with the promise of adventures untold. It was a testament to the boundless potential when the ingenuity of the human spirit is applied to the realms of the possible, and it was in this spirit that the age of aerial travel flourished, under the watchful eyes of the five who had first chartered its course.

Bottomless vales and boundless floods,
And chasms, and caves, and Titan woods,
With forms that no man can discover
For the tears that drip all over;
Mountains toppling evermore
Into seas without a shore;
Seas that restlessly aspire,
Surging, unto skies of fire;
Lakes that endlessly outspread
Their lone waters- lone and dead,-
Their still waters- still and chilly
With the snows of the lolling lily.
By the lakes that thus outspread
Their lone waters, lone and dead,-
Their sad waters, sad and chilly
With the snows of the lolling lily,-
By the mountains- near the river
Murmuring lowly, murmuring ever,-
By the grey woods,- by the swamp
Where the toad and the newt encamp-
By the dismal tarns and pools
Where dwell the Ghouls,-
By each spot the most unholy-
In each nook most melancholy-
There the traveller meets aghast
Sheeted Memories of the Past-
Shrouded forms that start and sigh
As they pass the wanderer by-
White-robed forms of friends long given,
In agony, to the Earth- and Heaven.

“Doesn't it seem to you," asked Madame Bovary, "that the mind moves more freely in the presence of that boundless expanse, that the sight of it elevates the soul and gives rise to thoughts of the infinite and the ideal?”

With boundless energy and little sense of discipline I find my options for letting Effie off the lead round here are quite limited. I don't want her disappearing into the forest or off across the boggy hillside as I will never catch up with her to get her back on the lead. So it's best to take her to a quiet beach where she loves nothing more than scrunching up seashells in her mouth, or ripping out a huge clump of seaweed and running with it. Or finding a rotting, large, dead crab, which she runs with, crabby legs dangling out of both sides of her jaws. Yes, it's harder to find fox poo to roll in here, but a rotting crab will do her. It guarantees her a nice hot bath (which she loves) with lots of bubbly fragranced shampoo when she gets home. Have to keep her presentable for the guests. Yesterday we received a postcard all the way from Switzerland from a young Swiss guest who wanted to say "Thank you" for being allowed to take her for a short walk on the day they left. We were quite touched.

Appearing within the boundless darkness of space, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s snapshot of NGC 34 looks more like an otherworldly, bioluminescent creature from the deep oceans than a galaxy. Lying in the constellation Cetus (The Sea Monster), the galaxy’s outer region appears almost translucent, pinpricked with stars and strange wispy tendrils.
The main cause for this galaxy’s odd appearance lies in its past. If we were able to reverse time by a few million years, we would see two beautiful spiral galaxies on a direct collision course. When these galaxies collided into one another, their intricate patterns and spiral arms were permanently disturbed. This image shows the galaxy's bright centre, a result of this merging event that has created a burst of new star formation and lit up the surrounding gas. As the galaxies continue to intertwine and become one, NGC 34’s shape will become more like that of an peculiar galaxy, devoid of any distinct shape.
In the vastness of space, collisions between galaxies are quite rare events, but they can be numerous in mega-clusters containing hundreds or even thousands of galaxies.

Imperfections abound in this image but it was still one of my favorite moments from Alaska during our 2016 trip aboard the Snow Goose. This was the one hike that I decided to bring my 100-400mm zoom lens instead of carrying the big gun 500mm and teleconverter. We’d had a great hike and were heading back to the boat when we spotted a brown bear sow. Then up popped two tiny heads of her cubs. We thought, that’s okay, as long as we’re not between the mother and her young ones we are fine as we proceeded cautiously along the trail. The cubs chose that moment to rush across the water, over the trail and into the forest. Sow to our right, cubs to our left, we waited. Eventually, the mama bear wandered across the trail to join her cubs. We were still a little nervous, and the water was pretty shallow, so we left the trail and headed right down the middle of the stream, trail and forest far to our left, to avoid interfering with the bears. What a memory! If only I had carried my best gear. Lessons learned. Never let your guard down for an instant!
