I'd never come across this author before, but was attracted by the cover.
With an aging father living on his own after his wife died, his two grown up children get him a live-in carer called Mandy.
The book has many twists and turns and a lot of humor. Well worth reading.
Cats ready to enjoy some of their favorite tiny books for the Smile on Saturday group, topic: On Pure White. Happy Saturday!
"Books can take you into wonderful worlds"
My first idea for the "Smile on Saturday" theme "One Word" (22.02.2020).
Unfortunately, I didn't consider that the book titles also have words ...
Cuesta de Moyano, Madrid
The Cuesta de Moyano hill is a famous pedestrian avenue which is the site of Madrid's permanent book fair, with around 30 wooden stalls primarily dedicated to the purchase and sale of second-hand books.
Leaky's Second-hand Bookshop, a converted church, quite possibly the finest used book store in the world. Hours of entertainment!
More books I bought at Powell's Books Portland in 2012. The book Haunted Air has an introduction by David Lynch. Its an excellent book.

Just as everyone else I don’t travel anymore, don’t go to the movies, don’t take long walks in the city, don’t go out with friends & yet it feels as if don’t miss any of that. Outside of work there is an unlimited book collection bought when life was almost normal from Strand bookstore, cooking ideas, Italian books, bubble baths with “unbothered” candle bought from Strand. It feels as if my life before this past week never happened, but I can never say the same about books; Pushkin, Walt Whitman, Gone with the Wind, Maya Angelou ... They have powerful affect on me today as the first time. What is it about books that inspires us & keeps us going even when there’s nothing to turn to at the moment even memories ... ♥️ It might be hard for a general public to understand but I have to calm my mom down every day after work while making myself believe every word I say regardless of whether it is true or not. Then again probably my feelings today before work can be compared to teachers’ when they go to work every morning knowing how popular shooting in schools is in this country. No at this point my past is definitely GONE, except books.
i found this little nest a few weeks ago lying on the ground. i'm guessing that it got blown out of its tree during that crazy storm we had.
tripp and i happened to be out walking, so i carried it all the way home with us. something about it spoke to me....because i know a thing or two about empty nests and weathering big storms.
since bringing it home, i like to leave it out where i can see it. usually in my kitchen somewhere. it serves as a lovely reminder of all of the lessons i've learned these past several years. reminds me of how far i have come.
I've been an avid reader since I was old enough to read. My favourite genre has always been fantasy and the Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant are firm favourites.
This secondhand bookshop is one of my favourite places to visit in Hobart. You'll find it in the Arts Centre arcade in Salamanca Place.
Recent years have not been good for secondhand bookstores with many closing their doors forever. Salamanca Place used to boast one of the best antiquarian bookstores in Australia, Astrolabe Books. I always loved to browse there. Unfortunately it is now only available as an online seller. Still worth checking out their site, but you know it's not the same as making serendipitous finds on a real bookshelf. biblio.com.au/bookstore/astrolabe-booksellers-west-hobart
Tomorrow I'll show you one such find I made at Déjà vu Books the day I took this photograph.
'Persephone Books reprints neglected classics by C20th (mostly women) writers. Each one in our collection of 86 books is intelligent, thought-provoking and beautifully written, and most are ideal presents or a good choice for reading groups.'
