Beech leaves have a very distinctive colour when they first emerge. After several months of seeing only dull browns and greys, this explosion of spring colour is most welcome. I enjoyed using my 500mm lens to create a dramatic conjunction between sharply focused leaves and the bluebells and beech trees growing in the background.

Some old beech leaves. Beech has marcescence, a fancy name for keeping your leaves on when other plants have let their fall. There's a certain stateliness about these.

Autumn Beech. I just had to stop the car and take a photo of the Beech tree canopy on the edge of the woods.
The light was amazing just stood under the canopy soaking up the atmosphere.

While we are on the brink of real winter, here a nice autumn shot of a beech with some nice sidelight on it.
I don't do many ICM shots, but this one had it's charm, especially the nettle shadow that I managed to keep without smearing. A single exposure with a bit of movement.

It won't be long :-)
On a hike at Claremont yesterday afternoon I spent some time with one particular beech sapling, its leaves, the rustling breezes and the sunlight. It was time well spent.
