The latest version of Boxee includes iPlayer integration. Viewed here from the Mac Mini via screen sharing, it works like a dream. Just needs to wait a bit more at the start in order to stream more smoothly.

The list of works by architect James Miller includes in 1936 "Broadcasting House, additions, Queen Margaret Drive, Kelvinside, Glasgow".
"Additions" may refer to the block in the centre, pared down classicism, the pediments tying it into the original mansion, North Park House, to the left. The link to the old house is quite neat, as is the keystone element above the top row of windows. To the right is the medical building added in 1895 by John Keppie with Charles Rennie MackIntosh when North Park House was the Queen Margaret College for woman. A brick BBC extension from the 1960s has been demolished.
So basically the BBC canteen in Broadcasting House is a bit of strange place full of odd foodstuffs. It's a bit like slightly posh school dinners in which the aspirations are clear but the style of cooking remains highly institutional.
Today exciting lamb sausages, on a bed of mash with some kind of sauce (tomato? onion gravy?) underneath. Walking back to our offices after lunch I noticed a plate left deserted with precisely none of the gravy (?) left, none of the potato left and two almost perfectly preserved sausages with one small slice removed and presumably eaten. Evidently about as appetising as they looked...

Opened in 1960 it was the largest purpose built studios in the world. Sadly closed for good in 2013.

BBC One launched a full colour service on 15 November 1969. At midnight the incongruously named An Evening with Petula - Petula Clark in concert from the Royal Albert Hall - was the first transmission. The channel then closed down until 10am. Programmes showing in colour on the 15th included Star Trek and Dixon of Dock Green, The Harry Secombe Show and Match of the Day, plus the feature film The Prisoner of Zenda.
More importantly, viewers had to wait until 3rd Jan 1970 before the first colour episode of Doctor Who was to be broadcast. "Spearhead From Space" also claimed another first - it was the first adventure to feature Jon Pertwee as the third Doctor. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
