This Base Exchange shopping facility was located at the junction of Mons Road and Festubert Blvd. Shopping outlets included a Grocery Store, a Smoke Shop, a Men's and Women's Clothing Store, a Barber Shop, a Beauty Parlour, a Variety Store, Cleaning and Banking facilities. A civilian doctor also had an office in the Plaza.
Canadian Armed Forces Exchange Service (Canex) sells a wide variety of wares, at prices below unsubsidized retailers, to Canadian Armed Forces, their dependants and civilian employees of the national defence department.
Clipped from - The Windsor Star newspaper - Windsor, Ontario, Canada - 13 March 1968 - Clipped from - The Windsor Star newspaper - Windsor, Ontario, Canada - 13 March 1968 - Petawawa - Forces join retail business - Reports that the defence department intends to enter the retail business at the Petawawa base has caused concern among residents. Camp Petawawa is 10 miles north of this (Pembroke) community, about 100 miles northwest of Ottawa Merchants in contact with base personnel say Canadian Armed Forces Exchange Services (CANEX) will soon replace Maple Leaf Services as a retail outlet to serve the forces and would sell at prices that would drive competitors into bankruptcy. Replying to a Pembroke chamber of commerce inquiry, Defence Minister Cadieux wrote that CANEX had been approved in principle. Authority has been given to form a planning group to examine the many aspects in this field including welfare, recreation merchandising. The department has no intention of engaging in unusual business practices, the minister wrote. If it does compete with private enterprise, it will not compete unfairly. It would be several months before CANEX would begin to take over management of existing non-public facilities and functions. The chamber of commerce is sending a five-man delegation to Ottawa Friday to confer with Mr. Cadieux. LINK - www.newspapers.com/clip/122400663/forces-join-retail-busi...
Maple Leaf Services was a Crown corporation established to operate canteens, grocery stores and other outlets at army establishments in Canada and abroad.
I built this MOC for Andromeda's Gates on Eurobricks. It shows a MANTIS mining base in full swing, there's even some little loader trucks carrying loads of Awesomnium. The building has a full interior as well.
Anytime we go near that lake, Lough Shannaghan seen in the foreground, the heavens open up overhead. Thankfully we took shelter at the Mourne Wall.
Ended up with this shot and about 5 seconds of the time lapse project before the clouds came rolling back up the silent valley...

This was moreso a snapshot than a carefully composed shot, but I really like it nonetheless.
Had a great weekend out camping, will have to make an effort to get out and do it again one day soon.

A new black mech (stand alone pic coming) with an underdeveloped base and random fig. I like how black looks in real life but in pictures it's hard to capture.
Been busy lately - have not been online much, but the building goes on.

Located at the Norton Air Force Base Museum in San Bernardino, this is a scale model of US Air Force Lockheed C-141 number 60177 also known as the Hanoi Taxi. The aircraft went to Hanoi and picked up prisoners of war held by the North Vietnamese Army. This aircraft was based out of Norton Air Force Base.
I found a US Geological Survey photo of a USAF C-141 on the tarmac at an airport in Iran. The open press has identified a British- and US-sponsored coup as causing the Mohammad Mosaddegh to flee the country. He was replaced by the Shah of Iran who supported US objectives. During the Shah’s rule, it was normal for US Air Force aircraft to visit Iran. One of the docents confirmed these aircraft visited many countries all over the globe.
I believe C-141s were in front line USAF service from about 1963 to 2006.
Norton was eliminated as a military base by the Base Realignment and Closure Act. It is now a civilian airfield with a large Amazon presence. There is also a warehouse and logistics operation for Stater Brothers Foods, a local grocery store chain. Breeze Airlines has passenger flights operating from the field.
Your corrections are very welcome as I don’t know a lot about the above information.
