Amtrak locomotives 313 and 14 cruise along the Mississippi River at Dakota, Minnesota with the Empire Builder and a backwards consist that was turned around at the wye in Grand Forks. The result was a train late by around three hours which made certain sun angles more possible. I intercepted the Empire Builder at Minnieska near John Latsch State Park and grabbed an additional photo in Winona. While there, I noticed the clouds cleared the further down river one got, so it was off to Dakota. Certainly glad I made the effort. Two other parties of railfans also were on-site further up beyond the overlook. No doubt they got great photos too.

Coraline is in a limbo stance. She is bent over backwards, resting on just her head and her feet, with her hands up in the air. She needs no further support in this pose.

In the following series of photos, Coraline's body and limbs are bent in various non-standing poses to show her posability.

Photos of my Coraline Bendy Doll, fully deboxed. I put her poseability to the test, both in static and action poses. Also, we take a look under the hood to see how she is constructed.

I just got a new in box Coraline Bendy Doll, raincoat model. She was released by NECA in 2008, for the Coraline stop action animated movie by Henry Selick.

She is a 7'' tall poseable doll. She has bendable limbs and torso, poseable hands and head, and a removable face. Her outfit consists of a yellow hooded raincoat, blue jeans and yellow rain boots. All these are easily removable and well made. Her arms, legs and torso are made of a rubbery very flexible and tough material, with wire inside, so she bends and holds poses very well. She does have a ball joint on her neck, which combined with her flexible neck makes her head amazingly poseable. She can spin her her head around 360 degrees, and tilt it up or down at least 45 degrees. She also has wrist joints, which enable her wrists to turn 360 degrees. She can bend at the elbows and knees about 90 degrees before the rubber resists any further bending.

She has a mischievious look on her face, with a smirk on her thin lips and knitted eyebrows. She has molded blue hair, blue freckles on her cheeks, a small pointy nose, and eyes with rather small brown irises.

My doll was made in 2011, and does not have the doll stand that was included in the original version. The doll is no longer in production. It has a common defect of these dolls - the tip of her nose has the paint rubbed off. Her nose it very pointy, so it is prone to this problem. Because of this, I got her for a very good price from eBay. You can see some of the paint from the nose streaked on the inside of the plastic front window.

There are also two other Coraline bendy dolls in the same series, Casual or Sweater Coraline (in sweater and jeans) and PJ Coraline (in pajamas).

She is a bendy doll, and she has a round face, freckles and a smirk, so is a good match for my newly acquired fully articulated 11'' Merida doll.

I seriously need to work on my circadian rhythm. Ever since my last shift, I've been on a sleep schedule that would make the Lost Boys proud. Tonight's my last chance before my AM shift hits me tomorrow like a ton of bricks.

The fork-tailed drongo is known for his ability to deceptively mimic other bird alarm calls in order for a certain animal to flee the scene so he can steal their food (kleptoparasitism). They are also notorious for displaying aggressive and fearless behaviour by attacking and chasing off much larger animals, including birds of prey, when their nest or young are threatened.

Anybody who spent significant time in the Twin Ports watching how BNSF ran sets of end cab power for years knows nose-to-nose is the proper way to do it.

This is from the wayback file. While the number of megapixels I can capture has increased, it doesn't seem to have made me a better photographer.

Light Painting

Obviously light painting is not my forte, but great fun

These mountains are to the east of our house. When the sun sets, the light shines on them, and creates an incredible luminous glow. Though it is opposite the actual sunset, I often find this more beautiful than the western view. I call the glow on these mountains the "backwards sunset."

Check it out large.

Running long hood forward, I was a bit disappointed, but a pair of Alcos in 1994 was still a cool thing and is even more better now.

There'd been a cool south-easterly blowing most of the day and the whales seem to breach more in windy, or choppy, conditions. Maybe they enjoy the wind on their bodies - who knows.

On my way across country in 2016, moving from Virginia to Montana, I made many stops for photographic purposes, and one of my favorite stops when crossing the country is the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

At the end of a stretch of time in which I photographed various parts of the park, I took this "backie" (a selfie from behind) with the help of my tripod, looking out at a landscape that presented a huge challenge for pioneers making their way to the west because of the unique geography and its significant obstacles.

This required a go-around for sure. It would not be possible to make one's way though this maze of rounded hills and ravines.

I was traveling the highways on this trip and had no issues with

safe passage, allowing me to take the time to sit and ponder the amazing landscape that someone with great vision decided to include in the nation's National Park system. With a comfortable bench in a perfect location no less.
