The Union Pacific local is heading backwards on what is today known as the St. Charles Industrial Spur in St. Charles, IL. This line used to be the mainline of the Chicago Great Western, the "Corn Belt Route." The St. Charles Industrial Spur is one of 3 surviving segments of the former CGW main that still exist in Illinois that I am aware of. Of the 3 remaining stretches of CGW trackage in Illinois, this is the 2nd longest. The segment out in Byron, IL that is still in service to occasionally serve the Byron Nuclear Plant is the longest. The shortest segment is just to the east of this location, and is a spur off the Elgin, Joliet, & Eastern in West Chicago, IL.
Aside from the UP locomotives, this scene would look very much the same as it did prior to 1968, when the CGW was taken over by the Chicago & Northwestern. A few years later the CGW was downgraded and then abandoned in pieces. The jointed rail, single trackage, and perceived rural setting could very well lead one to believe this was the CGW of old. You just have to let your mind swap U.P. Armor Yellow for CGW Maroon.
If you are a regular visitor to my photostream you will know what a love I have for the foxes that visit our garden.
Since I posted the videos last month with Mum playing on our lawn with her three cubs there have been very few visits (often just zipping through).
I could not believe it this morning when this little beauty came and stretched out in the sun.
I quickly grabbed a camera and watched through my kitchen window.
It stayed for about 5 mins and this was my favourite capture as it looked backwards. It had looked straight at me a few times, before dashing off.

The red fox is our only wild member of the dog family. They are not fussy eaters and will happily munch on small mammals, birds, frogs, worms as well as berries and fruit!
Foxes that live in towns and cities may even scavenge in bins to look for scraps. A male fox, called a dog makes a barking noise whereas the females, called vixens make a spine-chilling scream sound.
A medium-sized dog, the red fox is orangey-red above, white below, with black tips to the ears, dark brown feet and a white tip to the bushy, orange tail (known as the 'brush').
Red foxes live in a burrow system called an 'earth'. They scent-mark their territorial borders with urine, creating a very strong, recognisable odour. They also have scent glands on their feet to mark well-used trails so they can follow them easily at night.
“A Backwards Attitude” acknowledges a post-digital and enlightenment age where information is everywhere and the correct course of action is clear, but an attitude of rejection thwarts it.
This sculpture represents a pivotal point in technology, its effects on our lives, and our need to recognise that. The work asserts that the entire world is available for digital consumption.

It's been a while since I last added a camera to my collection, in fact I'm in the process of trying to downsize it, but I just couldn't pass this reasonably priced little Flexilette, a camera that had caught my eye several times in the past.
It is a rather unique camera in a sense that it's a TLR using 135 film. Only a handful other cameras by other brands used a similar approach, the pre-war Contaflex being the iconic model for this type of camera.
The Flexilette is a fully mechanical, all-manual, meterless camera the taking lens being a 2.8/45 Color-Apotar which according to online sources is a coated triplet. This fact alone puts the Flexilette in consumer / amateur enthusiast territory, although german triplets often produce stunning results, I for one am very pleased with the Triotar on my Rollei 35B.
The camera sports a waist-level finder which is not very big, but it's quite bright, definitely better than the finder of the Praktica VLC or the EXA-1 from behind the Iron Curtain. Focusing is aided by a retractable magnifying glass and a split-image rangefinder on the focusing screen. The finder is not interchangeable with a prism, so if one wants to shoot with the camera at eye level, they have to compose through a sports finder of sorts that is formed when the WLF flaps are deployed. Take care not to loose the small knob that releases the finder shaft, as it can be easily unscrewed during cleaning or carrying the camera in a bag.
Size-wise, the camera stands in a grey zone between a compact 35mm camera and a small SLR and it feels quite hefty with the lens protruding only a couple of centimeters, the shutter speed and aperture rings being quite narrow but easily accessible and moveable without feeling crowded.
The frame counter is manually reset and counts backwards from 36 as the frames are exposed.
My camera came in exceptional cosmetic and functional condition, along with the peculiar dedicated slip-on lens hood (it's the circular contraption visible on the right) and the close-up attachment of similar configuration which brings minimum focus distance from 0,6m to 0,38m, but sadly without a leather case. Build quality is good, but definitely not up there with Voigtlander or even Zeiss-Ikon. While some parts feel very solid, others feel like cutting production cost was a high priority in the minds of Agfa engineers. Overall operation of the camera feels quite smooth though, the leaf shutter (1s - 1/500s) is really quite and the focusing ring still turns very smoothly.
Overall, an interesting concept camera which wasn't a commercial success, although Flexilettes are not that difficult to find on the german auction site.

During its 2021 tour, the Big Boy swung through Houston and laid over for a couple nights at the Houston Amtrak Station.
After having shoved backwards from the Amtrak station to Chaney Jct to begin its trip out of town, UP 4014 is back on the move as it approaches the SP searchlights at Niles Jct on the Freight Main of UP's Houston Sub.

Great Smoky Mountains 2-8-0 No. 1702 is towed back on the eastbound return to Bryson City on the first of two Nantahala Gorge trips for the day.
CSX Y131 was heading for Bayview yard behind rebuilt EMD SD40-3 4227 as it rolled across O'Donnell Street under the watchful eye of Mister Boh.
The 4227 was built in 1979 as Conrail SD40-2 6485 and was rebuilt by CSX as a Dash 3.

In typical cloudy weather whenver this happens, SCT010 runs long end leading with CSR002 through Maldon on SCT Logistics train 5BM9 from Brisbane to Melbourne.
