“Christmas is a piece of one’s home that one carries in one’s heart.” — Freya Stark

Bryant Park in New York hosts an annual Winter Village including shops and ice skating rink where there is an amazing festive spirit. At the center of the village stands a Norway spruce Christmas tree which is 50 feet tall, decorated with 30,000 red, white and blue lights along with an impressive 3,500 icicles, snowflakes and starburst ornaments.

A train ride back in time with the Museum Steam Tram between Hoorn and Medemblik. A stop is also made at one of the restored stations (Wognum-Nibbixwoud) and everything is in the style of the past. Recommended for a day out!

...silently watching the sea, which she loved so much, as I do...

Miss her...

This was on the little island, 500 m away from the beach.

As I mentioned before, a very simple place, where a fisherman lived and took care of the boatshouse.

My father had a sailboat there and loved to sail, but she

didn´t like to be out on the sea. So she used to spend her

time bathing in the sea and watching it for a long time. It was her favorite place to be in her last years. I understand why.

We had a great time together on our Summer days and my children also loved being there. They still do.

Just simple little stories of happy days, now kept in a very special place.

This church was on the opposite side of the island from where we stayed on our honeymoon back in 1994. At first we did not see the church. We stopped by a roadside local fast food tent. On the other side of the road was this church.

SSC - Time

The challenge this week was to depict time. I decided to photograph my wonky clock in a way as to show it going away backwards in time. This is a multiple exposure taking 4 shots that were merged together in camera. It works quite well and is almost what I had visualised. This is virtually SOOC, just a few minor tweaks and a little bit of cloning to tidy it up.

Stroling through these small streets were like stepping back in time ...

Aarburg Castle (Festung Aarburg) is located high above the town Aarburg, on a steep, rocky hillside. I have to say visiting this location was like stepping back in time not only due to it’s magical setting but the age and tales of this Castle as well. The castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century. It is classified as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

Another moment from a cruise along the Nile that I took on my second trip back to Egypt. It is always good to remember that some tourist activities are really quite memorable and worth while. I wonder if this is how the Nile looked thousands of years ago. I suspect that it did and that is why I will always remember this sight.

It was a different time and place in America in the 1940's. The world was changing and change always comes at a cost. World War II was one of those times that tried men's and women's souls. Flash forward now 70 plus years and could today's women or men measure up to the national issues of the 1940's?

The Schooner America 2.0 with Full Sails! She is one of the most majestic tall sail-ships in the Key West sunset-sail fleet. Her huge sails catch the wind and the light as she roams the harbor, giving passengers a day/evening of excitement and open-water beauty.

History: Designed and built by Scarano Boat Inc. in Albany, N.Y., the America 2.0 had big shoes to fill. Its 1995 predecessor, the 139-foot America (now berthed in Santa Barbara) won the hearts and minds of many islanders on and off the docks. That ship replicated the original America, a 101-foot sailing vessel that won an 1851 race against 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron in what would become known forever as the "America's Cup" in honor of that ship. The 1851 original America ended up a blockade-runner for the Confederacy and after the Yankees seized her, became a blockade-buster for the federals. She remained government property until falling victim to a shed collapse in 1945, and with the shed was scrapped and burned. A 170-year history with two replicas built.

America 2.0 (105 feet) replaced the 1995 replica schooner America (139 feet). The '95 replica is now berthed in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The America 2.0, the Adirondack III, the Western Union, the Appledore and many other tall ships are credited with helping

to keep Key West's maritime traditions alive for years to come.

Plain mannered Thomas A Thompson, last day of work for the DMV (department of motor vehicles) after 30 years with the Dept in Dec. 2009. I work the last of those 18 of those years in the Grass Valley office as the office manager, and work in 62 offices as a traveling manager. But thinking back on all my years it only seem like yesterday.

I was always entertain by people. And "everyone" had to see me at different times in their lives. Some were famous, some not so, some lovely, some not so, some rich, some not, but "all" had a story to tell if we just took the time to listen. And I always enjoyed listening.

***************************************************

It has now been 16 years since I've retired and written above. And looking back at this photo I wonder where have the years gone? I've always considered my time at the DMV as a hobby, much like my time giving flight Instructions in airplanes, traveling, writing, photography, talking to people and plain enjoying life to the fullest. Do I have any regrets? Many, in the course of 77 years, but then, who doesn't?

May your life be as fulfilling:)

232/365. Back in timeto the future, right?

For some reason after staring at this photo for longer than necessary, the phrase "back in time" called out to me. It must be the Nike shoes and that look of a quick neal knowing I'm about to jump scat away quickly.

Surprisingly, nobody said a word during the whole shoot despite it being a crowded night. But I twote too soon and came across a man...

man: "Hey, I have one of those lenses that goes on cameras..." *twists his hands as if mounting a lens* "... You wouldn't be interested in buying it? Would you?"

me: "I have all the lenses I need. Thank you."

man: "Oh, that's cool. Would you happen to have 50 cents?"

me: "I don't carry money with me"

And for those that wonder, I don't go looking for these conversations — they find you. And you might have wondered why I always wear these glasses — it's to avoid talking to strangers, not an attempt to be Corey Hart ;)
