B.R.A.T. stood for 'Bi-drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter'. Obviously BRAT was much easier to say and to write. This Subaru Leone Coupe-Utility derivative was known by many names, it was known in my native Australia as the 'Brumby' - a type of wild mountain horse, kind of like a Mustang. In other markets it was known variously as the '284', 'Shifter', 'MV' and 'Targa'.
The BRAT Adopted Subaru's all-wheel-drive systems, a relatively straight-forward installation afforded by the flat-four engine mounted longitudinally ahead of the front axle. The BRAT's intent wasn't maximum on-road performance, but more flexible offroad terrain. To this end the car also road higher than the standard Leone.
The BRAT style arrived in 1977, a number of years after the development of the base car. This first generation vehicle continued until 1982, despite the Leone being replaced by a new car in 1979.
The body style is what Americans had known as the 'Couep-Utility', a passenger car monocoque body with an open tray. This had a single-cab style, though oddly it was imported into the US with additional jump seats welded into the cargo area to overcome the tariff on light trucks popularly known as the 'chicken tax'.

Better known for being painted in lined Caledonian Blue livery and numbered 828, this engine was painted in B.R. black for a while in the mid 1990's and carried its B.R.number. It is pictured at Aviemore on the Strathspey Railway.

Der Zähringerbrunnen gehört zu den Berner Altstadtbrunnen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert und steht
in der Kramgasse in der Altstadt - Stadt Bern im Kanton Bern der Schweiz

Er wurde 1535 von H.ans H.iltbrand errichtet und steht unterhalb des Z.ytglogge - T.urms.
Der heutige Name des Brunnens kam erst im 19. Jahrhundert]auf und erinnert an Berns
Stadtgründer Berchtold V. von Zähringen.
Daneben wurde die Anlage auch Finstergässlibrunnen oder Bärenbrunnen genannt.
Die Brunnenfigur ist ein stehender Bär mit Helm, in dessen Gürtel zwei Schwerter
stecken. Die rechte Pranke hält ein Banner, die linke einen Schild. Banner und Schild
zeigen einen goldenen Löwen auf rotem Hintergrund und sollten das Wappen der
Zähringer darstellen.
In Wirklichkeit führte jedoch Berchtold der V. einen roten A.dler auf goldenem Hinter-
grund als Wappen. Zwischen den Beinen des grossen Bären sitzt ein Bärenjunges,
das eine T.raube verschlingt.
Nicht zu verwechseln mit dem Zähringerbrunnen ist das Z.ähringerdenkmal im
N.ydegghöfli bei der N.ydeggkirche.
1535 errichtet Hans Hiltbrand Figur, Kapitell und Säule des Brunnens am Rossmarkt.
Der Name Zähringerbrunnen taucht erst in der Mitte des 19. Jh. auf, nachdem es vorher
nicht an andern historisierenden Vorschlägen gefehlt hat ( 1.7.5.7 Berchtoldsbrunnstock ).
Gelegentlich wird der Zähringerbrunnen Finstergässlibrunnen genannt. 1.8.8.9 stellt
L.aurenti einen neuen Trog her. Zu Beginn des 20. Jh. heisst der Zähringerbrunnen auch
Bärenbrunnen.

Der 1542 errichtete Zähringerbrunnen zuoberst an der Kramgasse erinnert an Berns
Gründer und steht untenher des Z.eitglockenturmes unweit der Grenze der alten
Zähringerstadt.
Aus denn Brunnenstock münden aus L.öwenmasken vier von stilisierten D.elphinen
gestützte R.öhren. Die an der Basis mit Akanthusblättern verzierte, tief kannelierte
Säule ist mit einem Kapitäl gekrönt, das statt der Voluten vier Karyatiden aufweist,
zwischen denen vier Renaissanceschilder mit folgenden Aufschriften placiert sind:

«BERCHTOLD HERZOG VON ZERINGEN HAT DIE», «STATT BERN GESTIFT IM

Das Standbild zeigt einen aufrechtstehenden Bären mit Spangenhelm, der als Zier
eine goldene Kugel trägt. Im Gürtel stecken zwei Schwerter. Die rechte Pranke hält
ein Banner mit einem langen Schaft, während die linke einen Schild hält.
Banner und Schild zeigen in Rot einen goldenen L.öwen, das irrtümlicherweise den
Zähringen zugeschriebene Wappen. In Wirklichkeit führte Berchtold V. in Gold einen
roten A.dler.
Hier hat es der kleine Bär nicht nötig, selbst Wehr und Waffen zu tragen. Zwischen
den Beinen des Alten sitzend, verschlingt er eine T.raube. Durheim erwähnt, dass
1.8.5.9 zwei R.öhren mit Aufschriften versehen waren. Diese Notiz ist von verschiedenen
A.utoren bis in die neueste Zeit immer wieder übernommen worden, obschon die R.öhren
selbst nicht beschriftet sind.
In Wirklichkeit waren die damals in Bern beliebten Devisen «SOLI DEO GLORIA» und
«PROTEGE NOS DOM INE» auf den beidseitig den A.rkaden zugewendeten Seiten des
achteckigen Beckens eingemeisselt, ebenso die Jahrzahl 1542.
Diese Brunnenschale wurde 1.8.8.9 entfernt und durch eine neue ersetzt, welche von
B.ildhauer L.aurenti angefertigt wurde. In Verbindung damit wurden Säule und Figur
1.8.9.0 restauriert.
So hatten, wie Spiess zu berichten weiss, frühere M.aler die I.nschriften auf den Schildern
am Kapitäl, die dann bei den Renovationsarbeiten entdeckt wurden, überstrichen. Die
Kosten für die Restauration und die neue Schale betrugen für diesen Brunnen 2372 Franken,
von denen die Hausbesitzer in der Nachbarschaft des Brunnens 1700 Franken zu tragen
hatten.
1.9.0.2, als das T.ramgeleise verlegt wurde, musste der Brunnen etwas versetzt werden. Er
steht also heute auch nicht mehr auf seinem ursprünglichen Platz. Die letzten Neube-
malungen erhielten Figur und Säule in den Jahren 1.9.0.4 und 1.9.2.6.

I am making these to model B.R.S. Lorries into table Salt and Pepper cruets. In memory of my dad's two workmates. Dug and John. I shall be doing a bit of alternations to the trailers, and a little to the lorries. The reg plates will have their initials and house number of where they used to live. I shall be making the wooden crates and pallets by hand. Two Pallets will be to rest the solid silver salt spoons on, when not in use. The AEC Dug's (Front) will be for our use in our caravan. The Leyland John's (Rear) will be for use at my dad's house. As John was my dad's best mate for many years.

Standard class 7 Pacific 70000 BRITANNIA (running without nameplates) as double heads the ‘Atlantic Coast Express’ from London Waterloo to Newquay on the down fast line through Fleet. The leading engine is Bulleid Battle of Britain class Pacific 34067 TANGMERE and the pair were substituting for the unavailable King Arthur class 4-6-0 30777 ‘Sir Lamiel’.
The train had left Waterloo two minutes late, but this had more than been recovered by Fleet where it was several minutes early.

Distribution - Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Indo-China, S China, Thailand, Sumatra (extreme north and extreme south), Peninsular Malaysia, Java, Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands, New Guinea and N Australia (Queensland). In Peninsular Malaysia, known from Perlis, Kedah (including Langkawi Island), N Perak, Selangor, Kelantan and Pahang. A usually solitary tree, predominantly found in deciduous forests. Tree to 45 m tall. Tetrameles nudiflora is a large deciduous tree with a thin crown growing from 25 - 50 m tall. The long, cylindrical bole is often deeply fluted with large buttresses up to 7 m tall and 4 m wide. It can be free of branches for up to 35 m and up to 2 m in diameter; large, spreading surface roots. Timber is of poor quality.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar - Indian Crusader for Social Justice:
Dr Ambekar (1891-1956), was born in Mhow, Central Provinces, India. The youngest of fourteen children, and of a low caste. He rose to be an Indian lawyer, politician and academic. A revivalist for Buddhism in India, he inspired the Modern Buddhist movement. As independent India's first law minister, he was principal architect of the Constitution of India. Always an oponnent of the caste system and gender discrimination. He served as an Indian Government Minister and the upper house, of parliament, the Rajya Sabha in March 1952 and would remain as member till death
He argued that Hindu caste system, divided labours, was one of the hurdles for the economic progress. He emphasised on free economy with stable rupee which India has adopted recently . He advocated the birth control rate to develop the Indian economy. This policy has been adopted by Indian government as national policy for family planning. He emphasised on equal rights to women for economic development.. He laid the foundation of industrial relations after Indian independence.
Ambedkar died in his sleep on 6 December 1956 at his home in Delhi. his funeral attended by half a million sorrowing people.

This photograph was published in the Illustrated Chronicle on the 23rd of January 1917.
During the Great War the Illustrated Chronicle published photographs of soldiers and sailors from Newcastle and the North East of England, which had been in the news. The photographs were sent in by relatives and give us a glimpse into the past.
The physical collection held by Newcastle Libraries comprises bound volumes of the newspaper from 1910 to 1925. We are keen to find out more about the people in the photographs. If you recognise anyone in the images and have any stories and information to add please comment below.
