B.R.A.T. stood for 'Bi-drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter'. Obviously BRAT was much easier to say and to write. This Subaru Leone Coupe-Utility derivative was known by many names, it was known in my native Australia as the 'Brumby' - a type of wild mountain horse, kind of like a Mustang. In other markets it was known variously as the '284', 'Shifter', 'MV' and 'Targa'.
The BRAT Adopted Subaru's all-wheel-drive systems, a relatively straight-forward installation afforded by the flat-four engine mounted longitudinally ahead of the front axle. The BRAT's intent wasn't maximum on-road performance, but more flexible offroad terrain. To this end the car also road higher than the standard Leone.
The BRAT style arrived in 1977, a number of years after the development of the base car. This first generation vehicle continued until 1982, despite the Leone being replaced by a new car in 1979.
The body style is what Americans had known as the 'Couep-Utility', a passenger car monocoque body with an open tray. This had a single-cab style, though oddly it was imported into the US with additional jump seats welded into the cargo area to overcome the tariff on light trucks popularly known as the 'chicken tax'.

Der Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen in Bern steht in der Gerechtigkeitsgasse der Stadt - Altstadt
Bern im Kanton Bern in der Schweiz. Er gehört zu den Berner Altstadtbrunnen aus dem
16. Jahrhundert.

Die Brunnenfigur ist eine Statue der Justitia mit verbundenen Augen, die mit der rechten
Hand das Richtschwert erhebt und in der linken Hand die Waage trägt. Geschaffen wurde
der Brunnen 1543 von Hans Gieng.

Die Symbolfigur der Gerechtigkeit wurde wiederholt zum Opfer von Vandalismus:
- Waage und Schwert verschwanden 1.7.9.8 und wurden erst im O.ktober 1.8.4.5 ersetzt
- 1.9.8.6 wurde die ganze Statue durch die jurassische S.eparatistengruppe B.éliers vom
Sockel gerissen

1.7.9.8. Sie werden erst im O.ktober 1.8.4.5 ersetzt, als wegen der Gefälleverminderung der
Gerechtigkeitsgasse der Brunnen für ein halbes Jahr entfernt wird. Gleichzeitig entsteht ein
neuer Achtecktrog.

Der Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen wurde 1543 an seiner jetzigen Stelle errichtet. Er kann für
sich in künstlerischer Hinsicht den Ehrenplatz als der schönste der bernischen Brunnen,
ja sogar aller Brunnen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert in unserem Lande beanspruchen.
Aus dem achteckigen T.rog erhebt sich ein hoher quadratischer Stock, aus welchem die
beiden aus L.öwenmasken mündenden Röhren das Wasser liefern. Die schöne, fein
kannelierte, im oberen Teil mit B.lattgirlanden geschmückte S.äule wird durch ein korint-
hisches Kapitäl abgeschlossen. Auf diesem steht die Gerechtigkeit mit verbundenen
Augen in schreitender Stellung, in der rechten Hand das erhobene Richtschwert, in der
linken die Waage. Ein Werk der besten Renaissance.
Auf dem Brustpanzer trägt die Figur das B.ernerwappen. Auch der Helm der Figur ist ein
beachtenswertes Detail. Zu Füssen der Gerechtigkeit finden wir die B.üsten des K.aisers,
als Vertreter der konstitutionellen M.onarchie, den P.apst, den obersten V.ertreter der Hier-
archie und geistiges Oberhaupt der Christenheit, der S.ultan als absoluten Herrscher und
den S.chultheiss von Bern als den Vertreter der R.epublik. Alle bezeugen mit geschlossenen
Augen die Ehrfurcht vor der Gerechtigkeit.
Als man Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts den K.reuzgassbrunnen entfernte, wurde der Gerechtig-
keitsbrunnen an dessen Stelle gesetzt. In der M.ediationszeit wurden der Figur Schwert und
Waage geraubt.
In Verbindung mit den Arbeiten zur Zufahrt zur neuen B.rücke wurde die Gerechtigkeitsgasse
abgegraben. Das war im Jahre 1.8.4.5. Nach dem Freischarenzug brach man den Brunnen ab
und deponierte ihn vorübergehend im S.tall des E.rlacherhofes, was den Z.eitungen S.toff zu
allerlei satirischen Vergleichen lieferte.
Mit der Wiedererrichtung des Brunnens an seinem alten Platz wurde auch ein neues Brunnen-
becken angeschafft, das Bargetzi von S.olothurn für 450 Franken lieferte. In den B.runnenstock
legte man ein I.ntelligenzblatt mit den L.ebensmittelpreisen des H.erbstes 1.8.4.5.
Der M.aler W.ilhelm K.önig, der die Restauration durchführte, strich die Figur schön weiss an.
Man hatte aber damals für diese Einheitsmalerei schon kein Verständnis mehr. Im Blätter-
wald brach ein Sturm der Entrüstung los, der in einem vielstrophigen Gedicht im Intelligenz-
blatt den Höhepunkt erreichte. Wir geben hier lediglich die letzte dieser Strophen als Kost-
probe:

Schon nach zwei Monaten, am 1.3. D.ezember 1.8.4.5, wurde der Brunnen in seinen alten
Farben neuerdings enthüllt. Nach H.owald soll der M.aler K.önig den Brunnen nach ein alten,
damals noch vorhandenen, N.iklaus M.anuel zugeschriebenen Zeichnung restauriert haben.
Der Brunnen wurde aber dreizehn Jahre nach M.anuels T.od errichtet. Die Annahme, N.iklaus
M.anuel hätte den Brunnen entworfen, ist nicht zu beweisen und dürfte kaum zutreffen.
Weitere Renovationen wurden 1.8.9.0 und 1.9.2.5 durchgeführt.

These are going to be part of my memorial cruet set project that I am doing in memory of one of my dad's work friend's Dug. Who used to drive for B.R.S. Coventry Depot.
I am making these to model B.R.S. Lorries into table Salt and Pepper cruets. In memory of my dad's two workmates. Dug and John. I shall be doing a bit of alternations to the trailers, and a little to the lorries. The reg plates will have their initials and house number of where they used to live. I shall be making the wooden crates and pallets by hand. Two Pallets will be to rest the solid silver salt spoons on, when not in use. The AEC Dug's (Front) will be for our use in our caravan. The Leyland John's (Rear) will be for use at my dad's house. As John was my dad's best mate for many years.
I am designing a B.R.S. Cruet set. Using this AEC I have just bought and the Leyland with Trailer. I shall be marrying up the trailer with the AEC. I shall be hand making 2 wooden crates with handmade plastic inserts. One for Salt and one for pepper. With enough space for the vintage silver spoons to go in between the crates. I am changing the reg number in memory of my dad's work mate. Dug. As he used to drive one of these. The reg will be DUG 10F. 10 being his house number of where he lived. As for the Leyland. I shall be looking out for another trailer for that, and I shall be doing the same, but the Leyland will be in memory of my dad's best friend, with whom also drove for B.R.S. Rowley Road Coventry. So the Leyland with be done for my dad's dining table, for special occasions, where as the AEC will be done for our caravan dining table. I have just modified a Coleman's mustard van as a mustard cruet, to be put on the dining table. I just need to make the roof rack this weekend. So that the silver mustard spoon can rest on top of the roof when not in use.
