The Big Axe was built to commemorate the ‘timber getters’ who traded timber in the region between the mid 18th and early 19th century. Later, tree harvesting in the region reduced due to regulations passed to preserve the forests in the area.
AUSTRALIA IS A BIG COUNTRY that, it has been said, has a love of similarly-oversized objects. The Big Axe is only one of a loosely related set of about 150 sculptures and large structures sprinkled across the country. Most of these, the Big Axe included, serve as some of the country’s top tourist traps and can be found along major roads and highways or between prominent travel destinations.
Located about 2 kilometers north of Kendall in Kew, alongside the Kew Visitor Information Centre, the Big Axe stands about eight meters tall. Originally constructed in 1979, the first wood sculpture was replaced in 2002...

I always enjoy photographing Axe Valley, if nothing else for the variety. Since their fleet became DDA compliant, the changes have been reduced in recent years, with regular Solo MX56ABO ascending the hill from Axminster station on the 885 to Seaton.
Well Hemyock is normally a small sleepy village in the Blackdown Hills, but at this years village fete ! - - The local scout group organised axe throwing for the children.
My guess is that "health and safety" were not top of the list of priorities .
(Oh and all the scouts had to wear kilts this year. Just to add to the fun).

This little axe is called The Chopper, it's a vendor I made for the WASD store. It's got a more natural look than the Rimfire which I made prior to this.
Same as with the Rimfire, 2 light sources, one on the front, one on the back/side.
This might be available @ the ENGINE ROOM too, or not, who knows.
my axe mask on my Granfors bruks wildlife hatched that i use as my main carving axe finally fell apart so i set about making a new one,and a couple for sale,made from 4mm veg tanned leather i think they will be more robust than the original the axe came with which was 2mm veg tanned leather.
Axe Valley have got some new stock since the last time I was in the area - I saw a Streetlite on the 885 as well as this Enviro200, LX58LJA. It was acquired from Bus Eireann reportedly as 09-D-3733.
AVMT Buses (Axe Valley Mini Travel) are owners of this fine, reliable example of a Dennis Dart MPD/Plaxton Pointer 2.
It is only a reserve vehicle, however has recently seen service due to Solos breaking! 506's lime green sister X595FBB used to be at AVMT too.
