In 1975, under the oppressive air of military dictatorship in Brazil, brothers Lelo and Zé Eduardo Nazario invited bassist Zeca Assumpção to join their musical experiments in a basement under Sao Paulo’s Teodoro Sampaio Street. As teenagers, the trio had already been playing together in #HermetoPascoal’s Grupo, alongside guitarist Toninho Horta and saxophonist #NivaldoOrnelas, and it was while working together under Hermeto’s direction that the Paulista rhythm section (as they were then known) began to realise their own potential.

Roots in the Sky is a 1979 album by the American jazz ensemble #Oregon, released under Elektra Records. This album marks a significant phase in the band's evolution, showcasing their unique blend of jazz, classical, and world music influences.

Formed in 1970 in Eugene, Oregon, the group originally consisted of Ralph Towner (guitar, piano), Paul McCandless (winds), Glen Moore (bass), and Collin Walcott (percussion, sitar). They gained recognition for their innovative fusion of various musical traditions, including jazz, classical, and world music elements. Their sound is characterized by acoustic instrumentation and a commitment to improvisation.

The album is noted for its fusion of jazz with elements of classical, African, and Asian music. Tracks like 'Vessel' and 'Sierra Leone' incorporate exotic rhythms and melodies, while 'House of Wax' features a blend of jazz and mysticism. The band's use of acoustic instruments such as sitar, tablas, and English horn adds to the rich tapestry of sounds.

Rare French Avant-garde Jazz LP, little or no information can be found about this band that only released one album!

Currently no longer for sale on discogs, of which I was able to find the last one and bought it immediately on Nov 07, 2023, because it had been in my wish list for years. The condition of the cover is very poor but the LP is in top condition, this album is really worth a treasure chest. This music from Corpus Quintet on this album is phenomenal

While digging deeper into Dave Liebman's discography and related projects, I came across the album Father Time. As I explored further, I noticed that Frank Tusa was involved, which caught my interest even more. It was through this deeper dive into Liebman's associated acts and collaborations that I discovered the album and its ties to both artists. I later found out there was also a Japanese release of Father Time, which led me on a hunt for that version—and I was lucky enough to track down a promo copy.

'Father Time' is a deeply personal, musically adventurous statement from Frank Tusa. It captures a moment when a bassist stepped into the spotlight—supported by top-tier collaborators from Liebman's ensemble—blending improvisational freedom, rhythmic exploration, and melodic warmth. If you're drawn to adventurous jazz from the mid-'70s that blends acoustic intimacy with rhythmic diversity, this is a standout recording.
