The Cedar Rapids City Assessor says the building is from 1930. I am skeptical of conveniently round-numbered dates assigned to old buildings in property databases, so I looked at Cedar Rapids city directories at ancestrylibrary.com, and I found that "S&W Tenth Street Service, Firestone Tire & Rubber Co" first appears at this address (865 2nd Ave SE, at the corner of 10th St SE) in the 1929 directory (and is absent from the 1928 directory). Therefore I think the building is prob from the late 1920s.

Thank me for my research by sending me a bunch of money so I can quit my job and take pictures instead.

Here was 43 S 8th St in Richmond, Indiana, (nowadays numbered 808 S A St), presenting one of that city's greatest brickshows to a downtown backalley.

Online, the building's Wayne County property record asserts that the building was built in 1966, which aligns with the appearance of its front façade. But this wall looks older than that, so I investigated further: First, I found that a building with the same footprint is shown on this 1950 insurance map, occupied by an auto sales and service business. The building is not shown on a 1909 map of the same area (and this wall looks newer than that anyway).

Next, I rummaged through Richmond city directories at ancestrylibrary.com, and found that 43 S 8th is first listed in the 1949 edition, as Campbell Auto Sales; it is absent from the previous editions of 1947 and earlier. So I judge that the wall is from the late 1940s.

Each brick's outward face displays a brown rough-surfaced rectangle at its center and a smooth-surfaced brownish-orange square at each end. The bricks are laid in a "running bond" (i.e., each course is offset by half a brick), creating a checkerboard pattern, a delight upon the eyes.

I see where the outflow at the bottom of that skinny white downspout is damaging that concrete. Tsk!
