Quite rare, early autofocus camera that uses the flash to send a short burst of light that is then picked-up and analysed by a seperate autofocus 'eye'. Able to work in complete darkness. Fixed shutter speed (1/125th sec). Manual adjustment of film speed is possible for exposure compensation. Made in Hong Kong
This a nikon AF lens on a canon eos 550d with adaptor so autofocus is lost.
It seems a perfectly good lens when you can get the focus right,
A basic autofocus/auto exposure 35mm point-and-shoot from 1993. 32mm f3.5 3 element lens. CR123 battery. Made in Taiwan.
Bought from a very organised stall at boot sale - they'd stuck prices on everything - and most of it was very cheap, so I thought I'd leave the label there for the photo. I bought it partly so I could reuse the case for the PowerShot SX120 IS.

One of the close to modern Polaroid Cameras produced by the original company that has that classic Type-600 Clamshell design! Not to mention modern enough to be still running after a decade or two.

I continue to be impressed by the PDAF in the Sony A9. The 693 AF points are definitely not just a marketing gimmick, they seem to consistently deliver.
Here, with the porpoising dolphin, there is very little time – these dolphins are amazingly fast. They are out of the water and back in the water completely in less than a second! So even spotting and framing them in the viewfinder is already a big challenge.
The A9 had no problem picking off the dolphin. And it's not just a blind focus to some distance and hope for the best – the A9 did a great job of delineating the dolphin from the bird. Even at this distance, the DoF is relatively shallow.
Below is a vertical crop of the image above, and further below is an actual pixels crop. I keep reminding myself that with my 100-400 lens, I could have had a 4x larger image!

This is an AF test image I took. It's of Tim Jackson's focus test chart.
I'm trying to test my new Tamron 28mm - 75mm F/2.8 lens. From what I can tell, it's slightly front focused, but I have no idea if this picture shows a problem or somthing that's within reasonable bounds.

Monday's Theme: Performance
Last Thursday is held on the last Thursday of each month in the Alberta area of Portland. This time it covered 30 blocks and had a wonderful selection of artists and performers lining the blocks.
Iris immediately caught my attention with her typewriter, vintage look and suitcase. I took the picture as she typed a poem for someone on the spot, before the crowds really started filling in. I returned to talk to her as we were heading back out and showed her the portrait I took and found out that she isn't from Portland, but this is what she does, traveling around to Art gatherings and writes poetry.
This is one of my favorite shots I took the entire trip.

I had some great light from a big window (with a white roller blind), making it a huge soft box really. The hard part is taking a self portrait, handholding the camera at an arm’s length and actually getting the eye in focus. To make things even a bit more difficult, it was shot at f/1.4 (with the 50mm) with the 5D, which means the DOF is super shallow at that distance. And I even used autofocus with all AF points... so to summarize, it was completely hit or miss. Out of 20 photos I had about 2 where the focus was on the eye.
