Westernport Bay putting on a show at Sunrise

Telephone switch cabin in Milan #5 a-side

[I initially processed this photograph with Lightroom. Later, I had a go at it with Aurora HDR 2017 - with this result. I like the added definition of the clouds in this second version. Since the skyline is the main element, this makes quite a difference ... to me.]

With apologies to Shakespeare for the title, the view down Canberra Avenue has three distinctive structures on the skyline. Thanks to the planning of Canberra, there are many examples of perfect alignment. This is not one of them. It is just that little bit off.

For those not familiar with Canberra, we have the Telstra Tower / Black Mountain Tower in the distance, the flagpole atop Parliament House in the middle distance, and the spire of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church closest to us.

Photography notes ...

The photograph was taken using the following hardware configuration ...

(Year of manufacture indicated in braces where known.)

- Hasselblad 501CM Body (Chrome) - S/N 10SH26953 (2002).

- Hasselblad CFV-50c Digital Back for Hasselblad V mount camera.

- Hasselblad Focusing Screen for the CFV-50c digital back, with focussing prism and crop markings.

- Hasselblad 45 Degree Viewfinder PME-45 42297 (2001).

- Hasselblad Carl Zeiss lens - Sonnar CF 250mm f/5.6 Superachromat lens (1987).

- FotodioX B60 Lens Hood for Select Hasselblad Telephoto CF Lenses.

I acquired the photograph (8272 x 6200 pixels) with an ISO of 400. I did not record the exposure time nor the aperture.

Post-processing ...

Finder - Removed the CF card from the camera digital back and placed it in a Lexar 25-in-1 USB card reader. Then used Finder on my MacBook Air to download the raw image file (3FR extension) from the card.

Aurora HDR 2017 - Made various lighting and color adjustments to the image.

Aurora HDR 2017 - Applied a square crop (1:1 aspect ratio) to the image.

Lightroom - Output the image as a JPEG image using the "High" quality option (6008 x 6009 pixels).

PhotoSync - Copied the JPEG file to my iPad Mini for any final processing, review, enjoyment, and posting to social media.

EXIF Editor - Added the geolocation information to the image header.

When strolling through Pioneer Square, the oldest neighborhood in Seattle, you might notice some brightly colored pavement windows. Below these windows is the dark underworld of the original 1900s Seattle. The discoloration of the glass owes to the unique manufacturing process and constant UV exposure over time, rendering the glass translucent.

5 exposures, composited in Aurora HDR and finished in GIMP.

Kiama was the location of this weeks sunrise shoot - Decided to take a different angle on the place for a change.

A quick session after work

Here are a few scenes from Lloret de Mar. One of my favorite things to do is walk around and take photos of night scenes. I guess you could call it a type of street photography. I like capturing people enjoying themselves in cafes. I also love leading lines, and so I look for people walking down alleyways illuminated with overhead lights.

These are all from our first night in Spain after landing in Barcelona. Of course, we were tired after the redeye flight. But, because our body clocks were 6 hours earlier, we felt fine. So we walked along the streets and shops, stopping for dessert and coffee. Nevermind it was the end of summer, it was warm, and the cafes were full of people talking and enjoying themselves. It was a happy experience.

Anyway, this type of photography wouldn't be the same without people in it. I enjoy being in places where people are relaxed and having fun milling about, socializing with friends and family. These photos try to capture some of that.

This is a meditation sunset from my hometown of Palmetto. It’s the kind of image you might see on the cover of a meditation book, at least that’s what comes to my mind. More here on the blog: goo.gl/5ZhX91

Single exposure, tone mapped in AuroraHDR and then a Graduated Filter applied in C Efex Pro.

This was actually taken at mid-day so it is a little bit of a cheat!

This photo was a 4 shot exposure spread, tweaked in Aurora HDR (soft and airy) reduced to 75% Canon 100mm macro
