I dropped by the “Trail Blazer” mural being worked on by artist Wendy Popko. She was hard at work, until I asked whatcha doin, but she stopped to chat about the mural, that was commissioned by the city of Sterling Heights. Mary Lakaszcyck, a technician with ASRC Federal Data Solutions, demonstrates a pair of augmented reality (AR) goggles inside the high bay of the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Jan. 16, 2020. Orion manufacturer Lockheed Martin provided the goggles to technicians to help place tapes where components will be installed on the Orion crew module adapter for NASA’s Artemis II mission, the first crewed mission aboard the spacecraft. Using the AR goggles saves significant labor and time to complete tasks. Manufactured by Microsoft, the goggles, called HoloLens2, are the second version used by Lockheed. This was an experiment with Google's fun new ability to see a menagerie of animals in 3D in your own space via Augmented Reality) On your phone, use Google to search for Pug, or Tiger, and you should have the option to view a life-sized 3D model.
This is the pug, who I placed in my living room. I was impressed at how Google adjusted the lighting on the little dog to account for the backlight from the window. I brought it into Luminar to edit to play with lighting and shadows a bit, and converted to monochrome.
How long before we can do wildlife photography from the comfort of our living room? But then, there would be no adventure.
