When I had no roof I made

Audacity my roof. When I had

No supper my eyes dined.

When I had no eyes I listened.

When I had no ears I thought.

When I had no thought I waited.

When I had no father I made

Care my father. When I had

No mother I embraced order.

When I had no friend I made

Quiet my friend. When I had no

Enemy I opposed my body.

When I had no temple I made

My voice my temple. I have

No priest, my tongue is my choir.

When I have no means fortune

Is my means. When I have

Nothing, death will be my fortune.

Need is my tactic, detachment

Is my strategy. When I had

No lover I courted my sleep.

Robert Pinsky, Samurai Song

Speech by John of Gaunt, in Shakespeare’s play, King Richard ll.

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,

This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,

This other Eden, demi-paradise,

This fortress built by Nature for herself

Against infection and the hand of war,

This happy breed of men, this little world,

This precious stone set in the silver sea,

Which serves it in the office of a wall

Or as a moat defensive to a house,

Against the envy of less happier lands,--

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

William Shakespeare, "King Richard II", Act 2 scene 1

Greatest English dramatist & poet (1564 - 1616)

I dare not have the audacity and arrogance to suggest that I could

put this description of our hallowed land a thousandth as well as the Great Bard, himself,

William Shakespeare, in my opinion, the greatest English man to ever draw breath,

a veritable genius, a demi-God.

Ok...

I sung on Audacity and pitched and echoed my voice.

I'M SO EPIC!!! x3

You have to hand it to this eagle for having the intelligence, skill and downright audacity to take two fish - one in each set of her enormous talons.

As far as I know, this behaviour has never been seen before in the U.K. - so it was great to have the opportunity to capture something unique.

Photographed off the coast of The Isle of Mull, Western Scotland.

Gracías a la empresa para la que colaboro, este lunes pasado tuve la oportunidad de cenar con compañeros y amigos, en el restaurante de la torre.

La foto la tomé, un poco después, desde la ventana del hotel donde me hospedaba

Luke 21:28 “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Life was filled with guns and war,

and everyone got trampled on the floor.

I wish we'd all been ready.

Children died the days grew cold,

a piece of bread could buy a bag of gold.

I wish we'd all been ready.

There's no time to change your mind,

the Son has come and you've been left behind.

A man and wife asleep in bed,

she hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone.

I wish we'd all been ready.

Two men walking up a hill,

one disappears and one's left standing still.

I wish we'd all been ready.

There's no time to change your mind,

the Son has come and you've been left behind.

The Father spoke, the demons dined,

how could you have been so blind?

There's no time to change your mind,

the Son has come and you've been left behind.

You've been left behind.

You've been left behind.

Good luck

This particular bird decided to land literally six feet from me and then had the audacity to tell me to ‘get lost’.

I duly obliged but not before I had taken a quick snap!

I was in love with your fearlessness

I danced with abandon in your shadow

and celebrated your victories

I was in love with your audacity

I danced with abandon in your shadow

and marvelled at all your desires

You wore a great mask of bravery

which you tossed aside in fear

when you saw the maskmaker coming

You ran away

I didn't know why

The maskmaker said one day I would understand

Now I dance alone

in the heart of the Universe

I feel a light on my face

Your gift to me has been this calling out

to leave the shadows and experience my bliss

I have a tendency to hide behind people to avoid my own fear of going for what I really want. This posting celebrates my own commitment to be more vigilant and self-directed. The following words strengthen me:

"The mind does not know that it is the Center of expression of the Infinite Power of the Universe. It is itself not the power, it is a center of expression of the All Power. The only way the mind can know that it is the center through which the Universe creates is by experience." - Tulshi Sen, "Ancient Secrets of Success for Today's World"

The nave of the Notre-Dame cathedral of Amiens. Effortlessly reaching a height of 42,3 m, Notre-Dame epitomizes the triumph of 13th century gothic architecture, or how audacity meets perfection.

Begun in 1220 by Robert de Luzarches, the nave was completed in 1236; the choir by 1269. While following the three-story elevation seen at Chartres and Reims, the emphasis on height changes the whole appearance of the interior. Only 14,6 m wide, the nave presents a relation of 3:1 between height and width, creating a vertical thrust which was unseen at the time.

Notre-Dame is listed twice as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, first in 1981 as a building, then again in 1998 as a pilgrimage site on the routes to Santiago de Compostela in France.

The boys are not impressed at the audacity of this particular garden visitor.

I've had the privilege and moving experience of watching this Bald Eagle family grow from perhaps a week old up to fledging at somewhere around 10-12 weeks. Here, the eaglets are around 7-8 weeks old. I love this image because it really shows the complete setting, how the parents (the young mother this time) would watch over from the high branch (as well as from a treetop up the mountainside). But the delightful story here is another dive-bombing little bird - in this case a Northern Bullock's Oriole. It must have had a nest nearby, and in some of my images actually seems to be carrying a worm or something. It also had the audacity to perch on the branch it is passing by in this image. Seriously?!

If you were interested in the lens, I used my Sigma 150-600 Sport on all the eagle images. When I've showed just the birds on the nest, the images have been cropped pretty significantly. Here, it's a full-frame image (on the cropped sensor 7DII) with that lens zoomed back just a touch to get the mother and the nest with a teeny bit of room to spare. I gave up my big Canon glass a couple of years ago for this long zoom capability and have had no regrets.

Ten years ago I had the audacity to do one a them kickstarter projects. Kickstarter hadn’t been around that long, and it was mostly artist types like myself, asking their audience for a bit of cash to fund some funky project they’d come up with.

And damned if I didn’t get mine funded, ended up spending a month making my way around the country, interviewing couples for a book on relationships.

And damned if it hasn’t been a decade since I left LA by plane to Texas, then by car from Texas to Louisiana, then by train to Georgia, and Maryland, and D.C., and New York, and Boston, and Minneapolis, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle…

Really, it gave me a reason to travel, hadn't done much up to that point. Gave me a reason to visit friends I only knew from the internet.

Gave me a reason to see these two, cousins of mine in Minneapolis.

And best of all, it gave me an excuse to do what I love: ask invasive questions while taking photos.

Toffi wondering who has the audacity to look in HIS window!

There is a certain audacity to the Marina Bay Sands that captivated me. It seems like it should belong to that category of building "This Shouldn't Be Possible". Yet there it is: three tall towers with an immense deck laying across the top, not to mention the far end of that deck extends well beyond the edge of the third tower. That detail in itself is a pretty remarkable engineering achievement if you stop to think about the weight of that extension and how it must be accounted for in the design of the building. But while the Marina Bay Sands is perhaps the most obvious example of such imaginative and futuristic architecture, it was but the crown jewel in a city full of such buildings. There is even a second example in this image in the form of the twisting Helix Bridge, which itself was quite the experience to traverse. But the rest of Singapore constantly had me looking up and stopping to marvel at the construction of one tower or another. In particular, one feature that struck me was how many buildings employed open spaces, void decks, or otherwise empty spaces within the upper reaches of the tower that were often filled with gardens or groves of trees. It is something else to look up 30 stories and see a mini arboretum above you. I didn't even know quite where to begin photographing that. Thankfully though the Marina Bay Sands itself is rather photogenic, so like a lot of photographers before me, I started there.

Being utterly scandalized by our audacity to come even anywhere near its nesting grounds (which were right next to the road it seemed). We didn't stay for too long after facing such inhospitability.

This was completed for Happy Slider's Sunday - HSS !
