"The Cathedral of Bern (Das Berner Münster) is Switzerland's largest ecclesiastical building. Construction started in 1421 and continued under a series of different builders for generations.

The spire was finally completed in 1893. The portal with its depiction of the Last Judgment is a remarkable feature. The vantage point of this masterpiece is located 344 steps above the entrance, in the 100m-high cathedral spire.

The Cathedral is Switzerland is the largest and most significant church dated back to the Late Middle Ages. As the dominant structure in Bern's Old Town, which was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1983, the Cathedral plays a pivotal role in the city's architecture. “Madurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction in the Scheveningen district of The Hague in the Netherlands. It is home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks, historical cities and large developments. The park was opened in 1952 and has since been visited by tens of millions of visitors. The entirety of net proceeds from the park go towards various charities in the Netherlands.

Madurodam was named after George Maduro, a Dutch law student from Curaçao who fought the Nazi occupation forces, first as a lieutenant in the army and later as a member of the Dutch resistance, and who died at Dachau concentration camp in 1945. In 1946, Maduro was posthumously awarded the Medal of Knight Fourth class of the Military Order of William, the highest and oldest military decoration in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for the valor he had demonstrated in the Battle of the Netherlands against German troops.”

The Fushimi Inari-taisha (伏見稲荷大社) is one renowned and world famous attraction that needs no introduction.

As the head shrine of the kami Inari, it features almost 10,000 torii gates that were donated by Japanese businesses, with their names carved on the torii gates themselves.

It often makes for a quiet and serene walk as one gets closer and to the summit of the shrine.

No noise reduction was applied and some grain was added to give a filmic feel to the image.

The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Their proximity to one another has made the site a popular tourist attraction.

The Wigwam Motel is a must-see attraction on the US National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program. It's located at 811 W. Hopi Drive, 86025. Travelers can spend a night in one of the 18 wigwams; one of the more amusing options when in the area of the Petrified Forest National Park. Vintage cars, like this turquoise Impala, are parked on the site to enhance the memorabilia. Many of the parked vehicles inspired anthropomorphized characters in Pixar's Disney film (2006), Cars.

Marblehead Lighthouse in Marblehead Ohio, is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the American side of the Great Lakes. It has guided sailors safely along the rocky shores of Marblehead Peninsula since 1822,

oldest story of all.

Attraction.

This spectacular rock outcrop is located roughly 40 kilometres southeast of Streaky Bay in South Australia. It is a fine example of a geological formation know as an inselberg, or steep-sided rock that rises abruptly from a surrounding plain. Other Australian inselbergs include Uluru and Kata Tjuta as well as Wave Rock near Hyden in Western Australia (see my image No.0480).

Murphy’s Haystacks are made up of pink granite originally laid down some 1.5 billion years ago deep beneath the earth’s surface. Over time erosion removed the softer surface layers, exposing the granite outcrop which was then weathered and sculpted into its present form somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 years ago.

Local legend has it that the outcrop acquired its name in the 19th century when a traveller, viewing the formations from a distance, mistook them for haystacks and commented on the farmer’s extraordinary ability to produce such large stacks of hay. Since the land was owned at the time by a Mr. Murphy, the rocks became known as Murphy’s Haystacks.

For a contrasting view of the Haystacks shot from a different vantage point, see my image No.0188

Strokkur, which in Icelandic means "churn", or the wooden container used to make butter, is undoubtedly the most photographed attraction in Iceland. Although thousands of people have already recorded this, it is understandable why this is happening, it is mighty ferocious to see this natural water spraying up without human interference and probably for hundreds of years.

Strokkur is a place where nature manifests all its power, an exciting and always different show that is repeated many times a day and therefore impossible to miss.

If you visit Jonker Street at Melaka on Friday or Saturday evenings, you may catch the Gold Man in action. He is able to keep still for long periods of time and visitors can pose for photos with him for a small fee.

The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, also called St. Louis Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Louis, Roi de France), is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and among the oldest cathedrals in the United States. The first church on the site was built in 1718; the third, built in 1789, was raised to cathedral rank in 1793. The cathedral was expanded and largely rebuilt in 1850, with little of the 1789 structure remaining.

Excerpt from www.gpsmycity.com/attractions/kruispoort-32707.html:

Kruispoort, Brugge

Kruispoort or "Cross Gate" is the best preserved among Brugge's medieval gates. It was erected around 1297 when a second city wall was built around the city. At first, there were eight gates that served as entrances to the city of which only four survive today. The present Kruispoort is not the original one but a structure constructed in 1402. In the 1780s, the city walls were demolished as Brugge started expanding. Four of the gates were left intact to give visitors an idea of how heavily fortified Brugge was in the middle ages.

Kruispoort consists of two tall towers connected by an overhead passage. The passage and the towers have windows through which bullets were fired at the enemy. Initially, there were two bridges and a front gate that have disappeared over time. A drawbridge and two large doors were quickly closed as soon as guards could see the enemy approaching. The interior is preserved in its original condition and visitors can see the seats of the guards on each floor. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Napoleon, and the German army all entered Brugge through Kruispoort. The gate looks magnificent at night when it is illuminated.
