23:48 - The first rest stop on the Metro Life Hike was the Wellcome Trust's Gibbs building on Euston Road. Time to stop for some water, and admire the sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick.
The Atrium of the Dorset Hotel. This ex cinema, which once had a V1 doodlebug smash into the walls and not explode (if you are to believe the Open House guide!) has been lavishly yet sensitively redeveloped and the interior is what can only be called modern art deco. The picture is taken looking up from the cocktail bar.
What looks like a massive cage suspended in the atrium is actually a giant light fixture. It was part of the Rijksmuseum's ten-year closure and renovation from 2003-2013, lead by the Spanish architecture firm of Cruz y Ortiz.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that my student card still unlocks doors at the college. View of the atrium in one of my favourite buildings in this city.
