Atrium (formally known as "Atrium on Bay") is a large 1,000,000 square feet retail and office complex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Westminster Cathedral, near Victoria, London.
The mother church of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, Westminster Cathedral was built on the former site of Tothill Fields Bridewell prison. Built in in a neo-Byzantine architectural style (once famously mistaken for a Mosque by UKIP), the cathedral was completed in 1903.

Looking up into the Atrium of Light at the very heart of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the glass-and-iron dome radiates in perfect symmetry, revealing the timeless elegance that defines Milan’s most iconic arcade.
Located adjacent to the Piazza del Duomo and connecting to Piazza della Scala, the Galleria is Italy's oldest still-active shopping gallery and a landmark of 19th-century urban architecture.

The Garden Courtyard at the House of the Vestal Virgins.
This palace, situated at the foot of Palatine Hill, was the residence of the Vestal Virgins. The 'Vestali' were the six (or perhaps seven) priestesses responsible for safeguarding the sacred flame and sacred objects at the nearby Temple of Vesta. Known in Latin as the Atrium Vestae, this palace was built around an elongated courtyard with two pools.
A number of statues of the Vestals have survived and have been placed in the courtyard.

This atrium is covered by a dome once called the "Eighth Wonder of the World." The dome (not visible here) is 200 feet (61 meters) high. It was the largest free-standing dome in the world from 1902 to 1913.
In ancient Rome the atrium was the centre piece of a house open to guests, customers and visitors.
Here in the Museum of Fine Arts in Nîmes, the atrium presents large paintings of the cycle in the history of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, by Charles Natoire painter in the mid eighteenth century.
A large Roman mosaic, "the marriage of Admetus", occupies the central part of the atrium. It was discovered during the construction of the halls of Nîmes city in 1883 in a remarkable state of preservation because it was buried 1.80 meters underground. Its dimensions are exceptional: 8.80 m long and 5.94 m wide.
My last posting for 2016 I hope you all have a Happy New Year in 2017
It was back in November 2013 when Hull was chosen from a short list of six cities to be the UK City of Culture 2017. It seems a long time ago now the opening events begin on January 1st . There were people particularly in the south of England who were sceptical about this decision, (they tend to think that culture stops north of Watford) but I think Hull year in the limelight will surprise them. Apart from all the events of the coming year in music theatre literature art and dance Hull has a lot to offer. The city has a great deal of history, some very fine museums a wonderful and vibrant old town still based on the medieval street pattern. The people are friendly the pubs are many and various. Hull is above all a river city and the views across the mile wide River Humber are amazing. I do not expect any of my contacts from overseas will make it but the city would welcome you. I do hope that my contacts in Britain will visit Hull at some point next year if they have never visited the city I think you have a great time. If you are coming let me know and I will try and be your personal guide.
The image is the city’s railway station with its colourful bunting.
So “ its everyone back to ours” and remember that its never dull in Hull
I will catch up with you when I recover from the party the city is throwing on January 1st Happy New Year
