This is what the atrium of an abandoned hotel looks during the autumn aura..
When the hotel atrium was not abandoned, there were pots with palm trees placed inside, and the walls were not covered with ivy(I've found old photos in hotel). Due to high humidity and great sunlight, the ivy grew throughout the whole atrium creating stunning scenery.

Whilst designed by David Chipperfield Architects, Pacific Quay (docks are never called 'dock' these days) Studios was completed by Keppie Design in a slightly controversial move which some say was an example of the BBC bottling-out of their much vaunted commitment to top-notch architecture. Suffice to say though, the quality of detail is still a delight in this somewhat deceptive building...
Pacific Quay is a completely modern name: the partially-filled dock that formerly occupied the site was known as Prince's Dock. It was the site of the 1988 Garden Festival: the subsequent permanent regeneration took almost twenty years to materialise.
The red, or Dumfriess-shire, sandstone came from a quarry that was re-opened for this project. It's a rather nice use of material giving the building a sense of place.

We stayed at the Beaumont Hotel and Spa in Ouray, Colorado, and we enjoyed the luxurious amenities of both the hotel and the spa. I took this from the third floor looking down to a seating area in the first floor lobby. There was a large atrium style window in the ceiling above me.
Suntec City, Singapore: This multi-building complex consists of a mall, convention centre and office buildings. This is one of the newly-renovated atriums, still waiting for new tenants.
Back in Melbourne we visited the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) at Federation Square. This houses the finest collection of Australian art in the country (largely the result of several major bequests going back to the halcyon days of the Victorian gold rush in the 1880s).
The architecture of Federation Square is clearly post-modern, in so far as it seems to be an eclectic mix of radical styles based on geometric patterns. This atrium is a good example. It is through here that we enter the NGV (Federation Square).
The architects of Federation Square were Peter Davidson and Donald Bates from Lab Architecture.

The atrium stucco was designed by Giovanni Battista Castello, and was presumably executed by Marcello Sparzo, after the designers death, around 1606.
We had wood trim added to the tops of the main archways in the atrium and are very happy with the result. It creates an impression that the spaces on the open side of the house are more defined but still preserves the light open feel.
