The seas are rough today. We're underway in the North Atlantic during the winter. This is in the trough of a 60 foot swell looking up at the crest. The bull nose just popped up after taking dip. It was rough for three days before the storm eased. At times the main deck had three to four foot waves rolling down it. This particular swell the helmsman took slightly off the port bow. This is the view from the bridge thru the sea spray. This was an epic storm and I wouldn't have missed it. Another photo from the shoebox. Shot with Canon TX 35mm film thru sea spray covered glass from the bridge. #USN #underway #NorthAtlantic #AtSea #trough #crest #boot #ship #navy #Schiff #navire #asea #epic #SeaSpray #Ozean #océan #hav

Rigging is divided into two classes, standing, which supports the mast (and bowsprit), and running, which controls the orientation of the sails and their degree of reefing. Configurations differ for each type of rigging, between fore-and-aft rigged vessels and square-rigged vessels.

The Dardanelles or the 'Strait of Çanakkale' or even the Strait of is a narrow, natural strait and internationally significant waterway in north western Turkey that forms part of the continental boundary between Asia and Europe and separates Asian Turkey from European Turkey. Together with the Bosporus, the Dardanelles forms the Turkish Straits and leads to the Sea of Marmara.

The first fixed crossing across the Dardanelles opened in 2022 with the completion of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge which can just be seen ahead.

A strangely chill puffin came up to the boat while I was fishing with my dad, they usually don't come this close.

This was our last night on the ship as we were steaming NW directly toward the Florida Coast, and the sunset in the west was directly ahead of the bow. Almost as if the captain pointed the ship directly at the setting sun! A magical sunset at sea developed. Magnificent! And we were headed straight at it! Was pretty windy, but absolutely incredible for the dozen or so of us out on the bow witnessing this. A truly awesome sea-sunset. Spectacular! Thank you for looking.

For those who wonder about the traffic cone - it is there because we like to bring back marine litter that we find on our trips.

En mer. At sea.

They even gave us a cod for our dinner. Very nice of them.
