Had a big salad today in the dairy cafeteria at work. In this photo you can see shredded cabbage, tabouli, and mixed salad greens. There's tuna and a sliced hard-boiled egg at the bottom.
I took a picture of the water bottle first and then I used photoshop to crop it into the picture of delvon to look like the water bottle was floating
AAW: Bokeh
Our assignment this week is to take a photo with a pleasing bokeh. A photo in which the bokeh is what makes the photo work so well.
Here is a definition of bokeh: Bokeh is the quality of out-of-focus or “blurry” parts of the image rendered by a camera lens. The blur that you are so used to seeing in photography that separates a subject from the background is the result of shallow “depth of field” and is generally simply called “background blur”. The quality and feel of the background/foreground blur and reflected points of light, however, is what photographers call Bokeh.

The school of Lenser is the only school in South Lombok that doesn't charge a tuition fee to the students or their families. This is possible thanks to the huge efforts of the local Iman, who begun helping some of the poorest families to cover the costs of their children's education and ended up building a school years later.
Being the only free school in Lombok, many families enroll their children on it. Some of the students come from very remotes parts of the island seeking affordable education, but not all can cover the distance every day so they end up spending the night at the school as well. "At the beginning there were just one or two, so my wife and I hosted them at the house. But soon the word spread and kids begun coming from pretty much each corner of the island", says the Iman. With those growing numbers, in the end the Iman decided to build a residence in the only place he had available: his backyard. As of today, the residence hosts 45 boys and girls, providing them not only free education but also food and accomodation.

Active Assignment Weekly: Zone System B&W
The last photo I submitted was too flat, so I'm submitting this one. Thank you so much, Richard, for this assignment. I learned so much! I worked a lot on this photo I took in the park earlier today. The initial histogram was kind of flat. I was going to take multiple exposures, but I didn't have my tripod. So I created multiple exposures in CS4 and did some blending. Then I did some selective touch up.
The final histogram is below.

Assignment 52 -- Painting with light
Visions of the Green Fairy were said to come to those who drank quantities. I haven't seen the Fairy yet myself. This light painting was done with the flame of a fireplace lighter.

Assignment - Above and Below
Not sure if this qualifies, but I live in a rural area and not a lot of opportunity for multiple story photos. It's early in the week though, so will still be keeping my eyes open!
WIT: With the angle of the sun, one side of the building was a bit shadowed creating what I thought was an interesting look. The camera was centered on the corner and focused at the top corner.

Active Assignment Weekly: June 6-13: Nature's Geometric Shapes
Being an engineer, it has always fascinated me how nature can construct geometric shapes (circles,triangles,pentagons, hexagons... and on and on) so perfectly. We mortal beings must use rulers, compasses, and straight edges to create such things.
For the assignment, photograph a geometric shape created by nature.
There used to be dew on the spider's web, before I got up this morning. So I simply replaced it with a spray mist of water. SOOC. I don't have close up or macro lenses, so this is a close as I could get.

This is a second shot of my husband just tasting the meal he was preparing. I posted it because I like the light and the shadow.
This spring @NatGeoTravel sent photographer Jonathan Irish on assignment to Montana. We talked to him about what it’s like to photograph there during the spring. Nat Geo Travel: Before you headed to Montana, how did you prepare your assignment? What kind of research did you do? How about gear prep? Jonathan Irish: The great thing about this assignment was that the shot list [the editors’ list of images to get] was generated through local knowledge and submissions—hence the name of our feature, Where the Locals Go. I did my own research on the best times to shoot each place, person, or event, and brainstormed creative ways to show each location in a different light. The great research the Nat Geo Travel team did was also very helpful. I know Montana pretty well, having led bike tours there in Glacier National Park. I was excited to return to my old stomping grounds. As far as gear goes, I bring everything and the kitchen sink when the assignment doesn’t require me to travel lightly. I always carry a variety of zoom and prime lenses with me that will cover the different situations I encounter, from 14mm lenses all the way up to 500mm. I make sure to pack professional camera bodies—a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 5D Mark III—in case one body dies or gets damaged while on assignment. NGT: What is the best part of photographing Montana during the spring? J.I.: The lack of crowds! In a lot of ways, it’s a great time to be in Montana, as the crowds have yet to really flock there, and yet it is one of the most beautiful times to travel there. The spring in Montana is vastly underrated. NGT: Every assignment comes with challenges. What were the biggest challenges photographing during the spring in Montana? J.I.: When the weather is cooperating, there is simply no more beautiful place than the big open skies of Montana. It is breathtaking. But springtime weather is pretty much guaranteed to NOT cooperate all of the time, which can be a challenge with a long shot list and a tight schedule. You have to get creative as a photographer when the weather turns bad for an outdoor shot and you have no time to return the next day. That’s also what I love about assignment work—challenging situations that allow me to grow as a photographer. NGT: You like to take clean, sometimes abstracted photos. Was Montana a perfect playground for this? J.I.: Montana was a great playground for some of the clean and abstract shots I like to take. This state has a lot of open space and grand views, but there’s a lot going on that is just below eye level as well. Playing on those different planes, with so much variety in each of the planes, really allows for some fun, creative work. NGT: What was the most surprising part of your trip? J.I.: Visiting an old-time brothel in Butte, Montana, while a paranormal investigator told me tales of the working girl ghosts she has seen and heard. Well, that is not as bad as it sounds, but it’s a true story. While in Butte, I popped into the historic Dumas brothel for a quick behind-the-scenes tour. Currently under restoration, the Dumas brothel operated from 1890 to 1982 and served the miners during Butte’s mining boom. The old, and small, rooms where the ladies worked were absolutely fascinating. During the renovation, the owners have found all kinds of interesting “artifacts” left by the workers. The paranormal investigator just happened to be there when I visited, and I got to hear and see some of the ghost tales she has investigated over many years.
