Assignment 1:

-Leading Lines

-Sense of Scale

assignment-1

1. Leading lines.

2. Balance your image

This is my 18th photo for an assignment at IADT in my Photography class. I decided to apply the Rule of Thirds to this composition. Also, I worked a lot with the Channel Mixer to create a color scheme that I believe is much more interesting than the original.

After work while on business in Dallas, I decided to go out for the evening starting with a stroll around the Highland Park neighborhood. On my way back to the car I found a large bush - or is it grass? - that was swaying in the breeze.

I wanted to capture how the light fell across the stems, and how the stems also filtered the light. I love the evening hours because of how the light softens and yellows.

I must have taken tens of photos of this bush, but I realized after a shot or two that I probably shouldn't point my camera directly at the sun, even if it's setting. Plus everyone in the parking lot was giving me looks.

Assignment - Light : This is the second in a series of assignments that I am working on with my friend colorblindPICASO. We started a monthly photographic assignment to challenge ourselves to become better photographers, both technically and artistically. In this case, he's got me beat. Not only are his photos for the assignment awesome, he also got them in on time :)

Assignment 52: Black & White Photography

Mostly I'm reveling in all the colors of spring after a long grey winter here. But thinking of Weston, Cunningham, Mapplethorpe---why not try to take a white tulip?

I chose to focus on getting close to my subject and finding patterns. This is a very large painting currently hanging in my apartment and this picture is only a very small portion of it. However, it fully represents what the rest of the painting is like.

Ashley's assignment on ritual. Peyton and I switched speech patterns. (In the documentation, both Eric and Ashley interrupted us, so please ignore the middle bit).

Taken for Active Assignment Weekly - Time

So, time does fly when you are having fun. I have been married for almost 10 years, I am almost 30, I have a son, a house....SOOOO much has happened these last ten years. It's crazy!!! Anyways, I chose the time 7:14 because my wedding anniversary is July 14th so it's symbolic of the last 10 years.

WIT: A tripod and a slow shutter speed. In Lightroom 2 I cropped it.

Shot for: fotoplayers.blogspot.com/

I asked some people to shoot something for my first assignment but no one had any time so I decided to do it on my own. In my opinion "doing something" doesn't always have to involve a lot of action. Because of this I chose to shoot one of the activities I really used to do pretty often. This is waht a perfect evening would have looked like until recently. Hopefully I will be able to get back into reading again soon.

This shot includes a book cover which might insult some people. For those people I have to say that this is not a book that is glorifying Nazis but it is about how the world would look like if the Nazis would have won WWII (The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick). I really love to read about strongly polarising and controversial topics which you have to think about and I also enjoy a good glass of wine from time to time.

TAMIU faculty member hands off plate to student as part of the Free Lunch program, Wednesdays on campus at the student center parking lot.

This assignment was fun and allowed for more creativity. My original plan was to try and make the bottle blend into the ski lift tower. However, the lighting at the top of the mountain didn't allow for me to set this angle up (too much lens flare). Instead I looked for good lighting and set up my bottle and flash.

This photo was shot during sunset on top of Bolton Valley in Vermont. I used a long lens 70-200 to help blur the background to a nice blend of colors. I then placed my flash on the ground (right hand side of the bottle) and laid flat on the ground to take this photo.

Here are the specs for my photo:

1/350s @2.8

ISO 200

Focal Length 108mm

No tripod

1 Off camera Flash (Canon 550EX)

The essence of light. Produce one image that speaks to the essence of light as you see it.

Active Assignment Weekly

For this week's assignment you need to"Frame" your subject with something natural or staged...But..Not with Photoshop or one of those other funky programs.

Restriction: No imported frame.

Dare:Take the assignment literally.

Well I headed out to work on this assignment but my dogs were not cooperating. So I figured I'd make the pups model for me another day and try to combine the weekly and monthly assignments together.

I wanted it to look as though it was a picture hanging up and the glass being broken and liquefying.

WIT: I rotated it 90 degrees in Picasa and adjusted the lighting.

Active Assignment Weekly: July 23 - 30, 2012 - Your assignment this week is to emulate the work of famous photographer, Jay Maisel. Go through his photos, do some research into his technique, and then choose a few photos of his that inspires an emulated image of your own.

Wit: Had a hard time with this one, but as others have mentioned, contrast, colour blocking, interupted pattern, and using every inch came to mind on this one. Was on a day tour of Toronto with DAP! and shot hundreds of images (and some black and white film) and this one stood out most for the assignment, SOOC.
