The House and Senate of the North Carolina General Assembly honor the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the 30th Infantry Division “Old Hickory” at a ceremony at the assembly in Raleigh, North Carolina, Oct. 4, 2017. Thousands of North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Soldiers have served in the division created 100 years ago for duty in World War 1 from units of the NCNG, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee National Guard. The lawmakers and staff gave a standing ovation to NCNG Soldiers invited to the event. Several members of the assembly including state senators Jeff Jackson, John Alexander and Danny Britt and state representative Grier Martin and Fred Aikens, chief of staff to state senator Dan Blue Jr have served in the division or in its later form the NCNG’s 30th Brigade.
