Assassin Bug waits motionless for prey.

Assassin Bug, common name for a long-legged predatory insect that stalks other insects. They are found throughout the world with over 135 recognized species in North America. Most species of assassin bugs are considered beneficial because they help control insect pests.

The adult assassin bug is relatively large, usually 11 to 37 mm (0.5 to 1.5 in) in length. As with most true bugs, it has thickened fore-wings with membranous tips for handling prey. When at rest, the extended, segmented beak can be folded back underneath its body. Its folded wings overlap, giving the back a characteristic shape.

All assassin bug species are predatory, primarily feeding on caterpillars and other insects. The assassin bug uses its needlelike beak to impale prey. It then injects a venom that both paralyzes and partially digests the prey. The body contents of the victim liquefy and are sucked out with the assassin bug's straw-like mouth parts. Designed and folded by me from one uncut square.

Sorry about that mystery model. It's being a pain.

Hard to get a well focused shot of this assassin bug nymph because it kept hiding from me. Fortunate for the aphid which you can see trying to pretend its invisible as the assassin scurries by. This drama took place on butterfly milkweed stalk/

Found at Tregole National Park. Queensland, Australia.

On the Bell Pepper Plant

The Morrigan is a heavily modified sloop-of-war that is featured heavily in Assassins Creed: Rogue, an instalment of the well known Assassins Creed franchise that was released in 2014 and quite recently received a remaster.

If one upgrades the Morrigan all the way it is completely covered in silver decorations and armor plating which made it so interesting to me since I love working with metallic silver. It took an absurd amount of pieces and I doubt I will undertake something similar anytime soon.

This model had been on my desk for the better part of a year. Originally supposed to be finished for the Assassins Creed collab last fall I had to postpone it again and again due to work and life being in the way, and also due to its complex nature. In the end it measured slightly longer than 1 meter, the picture doesn't quite do it justice.

I learned a lot throughout the process and yet the Morrigan turned out to be a bit of a failure: After its inner structure got destroyed on the flight to Chicago I was unable to set it up at Brickworld this year and it had to remain in my suitcase, leaving me without my ‚main model‘. At least I had taken some photos before leaving which now allows me to present it here. I’m afraid this is the only picture I will post due to the aforementioned debacle.

I hope you like it, it was quite marvellous in person if I may say so :)

Many thanks to Ben for his continuous support and the Rogues, without whom I likely wouldn't have posted this.

The Assassin Bug is truly a scary insect. They have a curved beak or fang as it is known by, to stab their prey repeatedly and then inject them with a fast acting toxin that liquifies all the internal organs. Using that same fang like a straw, it sucks it's prey's insides out like a McDonalds milkshake.

Friday afternoon, wishing for better (read: not pouring down) weather. Time to photography another gaming statue, this time from the Assassin's Creed games. As usual, my beloved and patient wife was on smoke machine duty. Wouldn't know what I'd do without her help!
