Immediately painful bite. I was sitting on our deck and saw this guy on a Canna Lilly. He was kind enough to stick around while I got my camera, tripod and macro lens
This is another new bug that I found at the nature preserve. The milkweed assassin bug gets its name because it looks like the milkweed bug. Most insects that feed on milkweed are bright orange & black to tell predators that they are toxic due to eating the toxic milkweed plant juices. The milkweed assassin bug is not toxic and does not eat milkweed, it is a predator that eats whatever insects it can catch, wherever it can catch them. It is a beneficial insect with it's preference for prey that are considered pests to farmers and gardeners. And it fools predators into thinking it is toxic with the orange & black.

Assassin's Creed from Video Games
Well Valhalla looks freaking awesome, right? I'm still playing Watch Dogs Legion atm so I'm gonna wait until Xmas to pick it up. It's so weird to have 2 Triple-A games set in the UK this year. I'm loving it! Anyway, these figs were a lot of fun to put together, and I do hope you enjoy them!

These look like little egg cases but I don't have a clue as to what came out? They were exceedingly tiny so a good test of my macro lens. The closest match I find are Assassin Bug eggs......Sinea spinipes (Hemiptera - Reduviidae)
This looks rather harmless, but it's an Assassin Bug - I'm pretty sure it is. Some say it's bite is quite painful, I did not test it.
From wiki:
"They use the long rostrum to inject a lethal saliva that liquefies the insides of the prey, which are then sucked out. The saliva is commonly effective at killing substantially larger prey than the bug itself.
Some assassin bug groups specialize on certain prey groups, such as ants."
Indeed, this one was close to ants, but no attacks while I was there. No ants got close either.
You can see it large for some details www.flickr.com/photos/cd-nikon/6090077497/sizes/o/in/phot...
It's hard to balance a little composition and just plain details. Besides getting the shot of a killer :P

Experimenting in ReShade. Cropped it off the top slightly, too much black space.
I was making a quick pass nighttime pass of the garden seeing how the young spiders are doing and ran across this nymph that was exploring the freshly bloomed purple coneflower (Echinacea).
