Looking toward Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba, from the California Lighthouse.

When touring Aruba, I was surprised how many cactus there were on the island.

These are Aruba Blood Fruit Cactus.

As you can see, there are quite a few.

Aruba Vacation. The sky was on fire!

This is just off the beach in front of the Ritz-Carlton there in Aruba. How amazing is that water? It doesn't matter if you are a total beginner in paddleboarding because this is a great place to learn. If you fall, you fall into milky-warm water with snowy-soft sand underneath.

La Trattoria El Faro Blanco is an Italian restaurant on Aruba's northern coast.

The restaurant sits atop a hill at the foot of California Lighthouse.

The views of the lighthouse and the island are spectacular.

During our first visit to Aruba in January 2013, we did an excursion of the island. We drove by several beaches on the island.

The California Lighthouse is a lighthouse located at Hudishibana near Arashi Beach on the northwest tip of Aruba.

This lighthouse was named for the steamship California, which was wrecked nearby on September 23, 1891.

Oranjestad

Fort Zoutman is in Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba.

The fort was built in 1798 by the Dutch army. It is the oldest structure on Aruba.

The Willem III Tower was added to the west side of the fort in 1868.

The fort and tower were restored and re-opened in 1983 as the Historical Museum of Aruba.
