The new St. Martin's church windows were installed in 2009, artistic design of the colourful three-dimensionality: Graham Jones, England, pictorial representation of the biblical narrative: Patrick Reyntiens, England. The church was largely destroyed in the war and then rebuilt in the early 50s. The Reyntiens/Jones windows illustrate biblical stories. The detail and clarity is extraordinary and we spent well over an hour looking at them. If you want to see the work of one of the great exponents of stained glass of the 20th century, then you should look at these windows. This panel tells the story of Jonah and the Whale.

Alongside the south bank of the Lhasa River, the building is set up for the performance of Princess Wen Cheng, a show focusing on the Tang (618-907) princess who married King Songtsan Gampo and promoted economic, social and cultural exchanges between the Han people and the Tibetan ethnic group.
Princess Wen Cheng, as the envoy of the Han culture, is respected and supported by the Tibetans.
The five-story Tibetan-style building broke ground in July 2012, and covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters, which is equipped as a comprehensive open-air theater with a high-tech stage artistic design.
The stands can hold about 3,000 people, and the lights can change background images to show mountains, palaces and temples.

The Juristische Bibliothek (Law Library) in Munich's Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) is a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture, completed in 1906. This historic library features intricate woodwork, elegant spiral staircases, and ornate iron railings. Its collection is primarily focused on legal literature, supporting administrative and judicial work in Munich, and is open to the public by appointment or guided tours. The library’s design, with its magnificent details and artistic ambiance, makes it a cultural treasure and a popular location for filming and photography.
In the center of the pilgrimage to Kevelaer is the Gnadenkapelle , which houses the grave image of Kevelaer.
The chapel was built in 1654 around a statue. This statue had been created by a man named Hendrick Busman, who had been passing over the place where, during the Thirty Years' War, during the Christmas season of 1641, he had paused to pray at a crossroads. Above him the heavens shall be opened, and he shall have heard and understood the Mother of God. Three times he should have heard the call "At this point you should build me a chapel!". After his wife had a vision of a holy house with a mercy image, Hendrick Busman built a sacrificial enclosure over the imagestock as a "protective enclosure". Later, the Gnadenkapelle was erected. [
The Gnadenkapelle is a hexagonal dome structure, which has a large portal-like window opening on the side of the Gnadenbild. The artistic design of the chapel was begun only in 1888 and completed four years later.
Specks Hof is located in the center of Leipzig and is the oldest preserved shopping arcade. The history of the trade fair and trading house dates back to about 1430. In 1815 the businessman and entrepreneur Maximilian Speck von Sternburg bought the house and gave it his name. During the Second World War, the roof structures of the building complex were badly damaged. Only in the years 1981 and 1982, the historic passage was redeveloped and restored in the years from 1993 to 1995.
The attraction of the passage reopened in 1995 is the three atriums, which were artistically designed by the painters Bruno Griesel, Moritz Götze and Johannes Grützke.
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
Specks Hof is a commercial building with the oldest preserved shopping arcade in Leipzig . The complex near Nikolaikirche is an example of Leipzig's trade fair and trading houses built at the beginning of the 20th century.
Specks Hof extends for 82 meters along the Schuhmachergäßchen between Reichs - and Nikolaistraße in which the building has front lengths of 40 or 47 meters. To the south, it borders the Reichshof , the Hansahaus and the postwar new construction with the Fürstenerker.
Bacon's yard is six storeys high. In the first three upper floors, the principle of the column-and-rail system can be clearly recognized by emphasizing the continuous pilasters . The upper two floors are slightly set behind a balustrade or a narrow roof strip. In each of the three adjacent streets is a bow-arched passage entrance, each of which as well as the two building corners is emphasized by a rounded Risalit . At the front, which is clad with trachyttuff and cast stone, there are plenty of architectural ornaments in stone as well as on the pedestal above the ground floor and above the third floor in copper. The figures are borrowed from the Greek world of the gods and have no relation to the purpose of the building.
The southern part, later developed as part of the front in the Nikolaistraße, deviates in its design from the rest of the building. It is kept simpler and has a pyramid roof.
The ground floor of the building is traversed by barrel-vaulted passages, some of which are still embossed with copper. The corridors are interrupted by three glass-covered atriums, which are beginning in the west, designated A, B and C and have floor areas between 40 and 50 m². Their walls are artistically designed.
In the yard A 33 white terracotta plates by Peter Makolies (1936) are attached. Above the fourth floor is an image frieze by the Leipzig painter Bruno Griesel (1960) with the theme "Psychology of Time". In courtyard B are a design on Meißner tiles by the Leipzig painter Heinz -Jürgen Böhme (1952). Above this rises more than 20,000 colored ceramic plates over several floors of the wall frieze by Moritz Götze (1964) "The Morning, the Noon, the Evening". Lichthof C is decorated with 16 medallions depicting everyday objects, mainly shoes, in an enamel glaze technique by Johannes Grützke (1937-2017). In the stairwells of the atriums A and B are still original lead glass panes after designs by the painter Paul Horst-Schulze (1876-1937) available.
While offices are located on the upper floors, the ground floor is fully occupied by retail establishments, including two catering establishments, many of which can also be accessed via the passages and the courtyards.
Stingray Sculpture - George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Info: The Stingray Sculpture is the central piece of a fountain erected in front of the Bayshore Mall located on South Church Street in George Town, Grand Cayman. This 1.5 ton, twelve foot tall sculpture depicts three artistically designed stingrays flying out of the water. The fountain was commissioned by Kirk Freeport Plaza Ltd. of George Town, for the enjoyment of both residents and of course the many thousands of tourists that come to the Cayman islands and often see and enjoy the beautiful creatures in the flesh too.
The statue was designed and constructed by Dale Evers of Dale Evers Studios in Morro Bay, California. Construction took over one and a half years and Mr Evers inspiration for the sculpture came in part from diving at Stingray City among the fascinating marine creatures, off the shores of Grand Cayman. > www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMV4YM_Stingray_Sculpture_Geo...

The Gateway to Ancient Wisdom: This contemporary stainless steel and red cedar sculpture represents the concept of entering traditional territory as one enters Mosquito Creek Marina / Squamish Nation land from the North Vancouver waterfront.
The two Thunderbirds on either side of the gateway also mirror the twin peaks of the North Shore Mountains – or the Twin Sisters. Thunderbird is considered the most powerful of all the mythical creatures, and can fly to the sun and back, bringing ancient knowledge from the Creator. The two Thunderbirds represent a male and female chief; a balance of leadership.
The artistic design concept behind the piece is the historical architecture of the Coast Salish people.
The philosophical context of the sculpture is about returning to ancient wisdom and ancient knowledge that has been lost in our recent industrial era.

The ornamentation, as noted is a cross between or an eclectic mix of what might be called; “neo- Art Nouveau Art Deco classic”………..or in other words, “Appleman’s concoction”.
Art Nouveau An artistic movement borne in Europe around 1890 lasting until around 1910. A artistic style highlighted by curvaceous lines, often inspired by plants and flowers, as well as geometric patterns. It took on many different characteristics in different places, and some of the most famous designers from the era have disparate styles, including Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona, Josef Hoffmann in Vienna and Carlo Bugatti in Italy. And let us not forget internationally recognized artist, Alphonse Mucha, (24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939) a Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist (one of whose work has been used as the backdrop for this artwork).
____________ The evolution of artistic design _____________
Art Deco Coming of age in the 1920’s - The “Roaring Twenties” representative of a period of social, artistic, cultural, and economic dynamism. “The Lindy Hop” and “The Lost Generation”. The economy was good - times were good. Money and despite the 13th Amendment (Prohibition) booze and dance clubs flowed across America and Europe. An era of bootlegging, gambling and mobsters.
The 20’s also ushered in a fruitful period for the arts, music, and writing. Popular among designers and architects, Art Deco threaded its way into every aspect of design, from women’s fashions, furniture style, architectural elements and yes, even automotive design. Art Deco went in bold new directions, and jazz music became all the rage. In literature, two popular movements or groups of writers arose: The Lost Generation and the Harlem Renaissance.
American literary notables who lived in Paris at the time, including Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Gertrude Stein - expatriate authors who wrote novels and short stories expressing their resentment toward the materialism and individualism that was rampant during the era.
________________ The Bottom Falls Out ________________
October 24th, 1929 - “Black Tuesday,” Nervous investors began selling overpriced shares en masse, the stock market crash that some had feared eventually happened. A record 12.9 million shares were traded that day, known as “Black Tuesday.”
Five days later, on October 29th - “Black Thursday,” some 16 million shares were traded after another wave of panic swept Wall Street. Millions of shares ended up worthless, and those investors who had bought stocks “on margin” (with borrowed money) were wiped out completely.
Seemingly in the blink of an eye, millions of Americans were thrown into financial turmoil. Forced to buy on credit many Americans fell into debt, and the number of foreclosures and repossessions climbed steadily. The global adherence to the gold standard, which joined countries around the world in a fixed currency exchange, helped spread economic woes from the United States throughout the world, especially Europe.
No longer was the average citizen concerned with artistic style or design. They were much more concerned with; where is their next loaf of bread coming from. And more to the point - the automobile industry, many car manufacturers struggled to make ends meet. Many manufacturers had no choice. They were forced to “close their doors”, go out of business and file bankruptcy………or simply walk away and take their losses. Auburn Automobile Company struggled on until 1935 but due to its weakened financial condition finally succumbed to the pressures of E.L. Cord - Cord Automobile Company who took control of Auburn’s assets in what amounted to a “leveraged buyout”.
Afterword: Don’t be misled. The “crash” of 1929 did not wipe out everyone. Many enterprising wealthy businessmen made “millions” off the misfortunes of others. Millionaires became overnight billionaires.
Priced at under $2,000 the 1929 Auburn 8-120 Boattail Speedster was a bargain……… for some. A comparable Stutz cost nearly $5,000. The pictured car brought a healthy $341,000 USD at Hersey, Pennsylvania auction in 2019. RM Soheby’s

I was having coffee with a friend and catching up on the news when this man walked in and set up his laptop at a nearby table to do some work. My eye went to him instantly because of his fashionable and unique look. I told my friend that I would like to approach him for my project and he said “Go ahead. I have an errand to do and we can finish our chat after.” Great.
I stepped over to the fellow’s table, leaned over and he looked up with a smile. That’s always a good sign. I introduced myself and my Human Family project and said that his great look made him an instant candidate for inclusion. He laughed and said “It sounds like a great project. I’d be happy to participate. Actually I do modelling so I’m used to being photographed.” How perfect is that? We shook hands. Meet Ishan.
He closed his computer and said he would be glad to step outside for a few photos. The fact that it was an unusually mild February 1st in Toronto made the plan that much more comfortable. The only relatively clean background was the polished stone facing of the building we were in. I took some photos and Ishan was very easy to guide into the position I had in mind for a few straightforward photos.
We went back into the coffee shop to exchange information and for me to find out a bit about this friendly and accommodating man. Ishan was born and raised in Toronto and works as a model, stylist, and visual merchandiser. He pointed across the way to a set of display windows and said they were to promote the upcoming Toronto Men’s Fashion Week in Toronto. “You should come” he said. I laughed and pointed to my faded blue jeans and baseball cap. “I could use a lot of help in that department” and we laughed. “No” he said. “It’s for everyone. You’d love it. I’ll email you the information.” (www.tomfw.com/) The display windows and the entire promotion office are Ishan’s artistic design.
When I asked Ishan how he would describe himself to a person who didn’t know him, he replied “I’m an open and caring person and all things artistic are my passion.” His advice to the world? “Everyone just needs to care about others more. It would make the world a much better place.” When I asked about his greatest challenge, he paused and said “Oh, so many.” He then went on to say “My greatest challenge was getting people to accept me for who I am. I’m a gay man and I discovered that acceptance by others would only come once I accepted myself. That wasn’t easy.” When I asked what was the turning point in self-acceptance he replied “My divorce. I was married, you know, and once I divorced I was able to move forward in self-acceptance.” He was happy to share this story and hopes that it could inspire others to come to terms with themselves. “I’m actually in a really good place now.”
As we talked I noticed Ishan’s rings and bracelets and asked if we could step outside once more for a couple of quick photos that included his hands. I admitted I’m not very experienced at posing subjects and asked if he could place his hands on the front of his shoulders. He did and we both sensed that it looked quite awkward. At that point, he said “How about this?” and crossed his hands. Perfect.
I couldn’t get over what a friendly fellow Ishan was and how interesting. His enjoyment of the project and the unexpected meeting matched my own. I left him with my thanks and a handshake. Isham is known as ishanriley on Instagram.
Thanks, Ishan, for the friendly chat and for participating in The Human Family Group on Flickr.

Colonnes externes :

Their overall design has been inspired from a valued tree throughout Arabia, the date palm. From the golden capitals (anodized aluminum colored with golden color) which are in the shape of a palm treetop.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has 1096 columns around the arcade. Each piece was hand-carved and inlaid by craftsmen here on site and they used a special inlay technique called “Pietra Dura” which began firstly in Italy 16th century and reached Mughals in the early 17th century, and perhaps the most exquisite example is the columns of “Taj Mahal” in India.

Four Nor-Easter's (strong winter coastal storms) in the span of 3 weeks have taken a huge toll on Cape Cod beaches. The artistically designed stairway, that originally descended from the point on the cliff where you can see some hay-filled tube barriers, was preemptively removed. They would have surely been obliterated.
