The hardest KAP outing for a long time. Gale force gusts mixed with a
little turbulence from flying over trees and the wind blowing over the
Bowling centre made it a mighty interesting afternoon. After heavy
rain in the morning, wellies were essential and I found myself
trudging through foot deep puddles in the field I borrowed.
First up was the standard S95/GoPro combo autoKAP rig which yielded in
excess of 1000 pictures. The light was pretty crap so there was a lot
of trash.
The second part of the session saw the D5000 get its first outing
since August. It was bolted upside down on the little used servo
autoKAP frame (the servo is way too sensitive and therefore barely
usable - fixed gears are the way forward) and sent up with the Tamron
10-24 lens (set at 13mm) with the intervalometer set at 1 second. The
intention was to make a panorama but the servo did its usual trick of
sticking, then rotating quickly, then sticking again, etc. Shite!
While I was setting the intervalometer, the PFK decided to take a rest
up a tree for a minute. Just as I was unhooking the rig, one of the
many gale force gusts woke the kite up and it flew itself out the
tree. Result.
I'll attach this place again in summer when the light is better and
the wind isn't so angry. Having the kite for crazy winds is all well
and good but it is bloody hard work. Especially when you do it twice
over.
