Converted Malta bus makes it to London 2012

by Keith Micallef

Article published on 27 April 2012

A traditional Malta bus will be the most unlikely representative at the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics, after it was spotted during an Olympic torch test run held on 20 April between Leicester and Peterborough. Its role will now be as an advertising medium to promote Lloyds TSB Bank, which has been nominated as the official banking and insurance partner, to millions of viewers from around the globe during these games from 27 July to 12 August.

Painted in a mix of white and green with a yellowish touch and bearing the Lloyds TSB logo on top, the bus underwent a major overhaul since its last day of service in Malta last July, as it was converted to a double-decker. Its presence in the final preparations for this highly-anticipated quadrennial event did not go unnoticed by UK bus enthusiasts, which reckoned immediately the origins of this particular vehicle and posted a picture on Flickr.com.

Though the sight of this bus might not evoke such fond memories to the majority of public transport users in Malta, bus enthusiasts abroad were “shocked” as soon as they discovered that part of this vehicle was “butchered” to convert it as a double-decker.

The photo posted by Steven Brandist aroused an interesting discussion from which more information started to emerge about the origin of this classic Malta bus. After some thorough investigations and using his own personal records, one of the bloggers identified this bus as having registration number EBY528 during its service in Malta. This has now become SKR801G in the UK, with the letter ‘G’ suggesting it has an old chassis being a vintage vehicle.

One particular blogger nicknamed ‘Chairmanchad’ whose real identity is Richard Stedall, currently residing in Devon, pointed out that its chassis was assembled in Malta in early 1968 using another disassembled chassis previously imported into Malta in October 1965. He also suggested that it would have been either a Bedford SL or an AEC Mercury. Further to that he claimed it was bodied by Debono and certified roadworthy in September of 1969.

Another interesting photo posted by one of the bloggers dates back to 9 May last year. Alan Edwards shot this particular bus near Castille in Valletta, after he had just boarded it for the last time. At the time, this bus was being used to provide the shuttle service from the Valletta terminus as access to the capital was closed while City Gate was being demolished.

Interestingly enough, another blogger posted a picture, suggesting that the bus either broke down midway through the test or was transported on site by a trailer. The discussion then centred on the possible reasons behind the decision to use such an old vehicle by one of the main sponsors.

Contacted by The Malta Independent, Heritage Malta Chief Curator Kenneth Gambin said that this particular bus was not among the 20 old buses donated by Transport Malta last year to be preserved for their historical value. It is hoped that these buses, which are being stored at the former Marsa Shipbuilding hangars, will eventually form part of an industrial museum. However, it was decided to put up for sale the remaining buses which were going to be scrapped and this decision paid dividends as some of them attracted enough interest to be sold.

Demel is one of the most famous Viennese pastry at the carbon (cabbage) market (Kohlmarkt) 14 in the first Viennese district Innere Stadt. Demel was a k.u.k. Hofzuckerbäcker and runs this item today in public.

History

1778 came the of Wurttemberg stemming confectioner Ludwig Dehne to Vienna. 1786, he founded his pastry shot at the place of St. Michael. Dehne died in 1799 of tuberculosis. His widow then married the confectioner Gottlieb Wohlfahrt. In 1813 they bought the house in St. Michael's Square 14. Despite numerous innovations such as frozen the company's finances could not be rehabilitated. After the death of Gottlieb Wohlfahrt in 1826 the widow and her son from her first marriage August Dehne succeeded but the economic boom. August Dehne managed to great wealth, he invested in land. As the son of August Dehne struck another career as a lawyer, Dehne sold the confectionery in 1857 to his first mate Christoph Demel.

Demel also had success in the continuation of the company and established it to a Viennese institution. After the death of Christoph Demel in 1867 his sons Joseph and Charles took over the business, which is why it since "Christoph Demel 's Söhne" means. On request Demel received 1874 the Hoflieferantentitel (the titel as purveyor to the court). The proximity to the Imperial Palace directly opposite made business more profitable. The Hofburg borrowed from Demel occasionally staff and tableware for special occasions such as proms and parties. Recent developments in the art of confectionery were brought from Paris. Trained at Demel, professionals quickly found employment.

1888 Old Burgtheater was demolished at Michael's place and transformed the place. Demel had to move out of the house and he moved to the Kohlmarkt 14. The new store inside was equipped inside with high costs by purveyor to the court Portois & Fix. The interior is decorated in the style of Neo-Rococo with mahogany wood and mirrors. Regulars were members of the Viennese court as Empress Elisabeth, and other prominent members of the Vienna society of the time, the actress Katharina Schratt and Princess Pauline von Metternich. A peculiarity of Demel from the time of the monarchy is that the always female attendance, which originally was recruited from monastic students, is dressed in a black costume with a white apron. They are called Demelinerinnen and address the guest traditionally in a special "Demel German", which is a polite form of the third person plural, omitting the personal salutation and with questions such as "elected Have you?" or "want to eat?" was known.

After the death of Joseph and Carl Demel took over Carl's widow Maria in 1891 the management. She also received the k.u.k. Hoflieferantentitel. From 1911 to 1917 led Carl Demel (junior) the business and then his sister Anna Demel (4 March 1872 in Vienna - November 8, 1956 ibid ; born Siding). Under her leadership, the boxes and packaging were developed by the Wiener Werkstätte. Josef Hoffmann established in 1932 because of a contract the connection of the artist Friedrich Ludwig Berzeviczy-Pallavicini to Anna Demel. The design of the shop windows at that time was an important means of expression of the shops and there were discussions to whether they should be called visual or storefront (Seh- or Schaufenster - display window or look window). While under the Sehfenster (shop window) an informative presentation of goods was understood, the goods should be enhanced by staging the showcase. From 1933 until his emigration in 1938 took over Berzeviczy-Pallavicini the window dressing of Demel and married in 1936 Klara Demel, the adopted niece of Anna Demel.

During the Nazi regime in Austria the confectioner Demel got privileges from the district leadership because of its reputation. Baldur von Schirach and his wife took the confectioner under their personal protection, there were special allocations of gastronomic specialties from abroad in order to continue to survive. But while the two sat in the guest room and consumed cakes, provided the Demelinerinnen in a hallway between the kitchen and toilet political persecutws, so-called U-Boats. Those here were also hearing illegal radio stations and they discussed the latest news.

1952 Anna Demel was the first woman after the war to be awarded the title Kommerzialrat. She died in 1956. Klara Demel took over the management of the bakery. Berzeviczy-Pallavicini, who lived in the United States until then returned to Vienna. After Clara's death on 19 April 1965, he carried on the pastry. During his time at Demel he established the tradition to make from showpieces of the sugar and chocolate craft extravagant neo-baroque productions. Baron Berzeviczy sold the business in 1972 for economic reasons to the concealed appearing Udo Proksch, who established in 1973 in the first floor rooms for the Club 45; also Defence Minister Karl Lütgendorf had his own salon. After Proksch was arrested in 1989 in connection with the Lucona scandal, he sold Demel to the non-industry German entrepreneur Günter Wichmann. 1993 it came to insolvency. Raiffeisen Bank Vienna as principal creditor, acquired the property in 1994 from the bankrupt company to initially continue itself the traditional Viennese company through a subsidiary. In the process of the renovation in March 1995 on the fourth floor were mura painting from the 18th century exposed and the baroque courtyard covered by a glass construction which since the re-opening on 18 April 1996 can be used as Schanigarten (pavement café) or conservatory.

One of the most famous specialty of the house is " Demel's Sachertorte" . The world-famous Sachertorte was invented by Franz Sacher, but completed only in its today known form by his son Eduard Sacher while training in Demel. After a 1938 out of court enclosed process occurred after the Second World War a till 1965 during dispute between Demel and the Sacher Hotel: The hotel insisted on its naming rights, Demel, however, could pointing out already since the invention of the "Original Sacher" called pie "having used the denomination". Demel had after the death of Anna Sacher in 1930, under defined conditions, the generation and distribution rights for "Eduard-Sacher-Torte" received. The dispute was settled in favor of the Hotel Sacher and the Demelsche cake is today, "Demel 's Sachertorte" and is still made by hand. While a layer of apricot jam under the chocolate icing and another in the center of the cake can be found in the "Original Sacher-Torte", is in "Demel 's Sachertorte " the layer in the middle omitted.

Besides the Sachertorte helped another specialty the pastry to world fame: the original gingerbread figures whose modeling came from the collection of Count Johann Nepomuk Graf Wilczek on Castle Kreuzenstein. Then there are the Demel cake (almond-orange mass with blackcurrant jam, marzipan and chocolate coating), Anna Torte, Dobos cake, cake trays, Russian Punch Cake, Esterházy cake, apple strudel and other confectionary specialties. Popular with many tourists are the candied violets with which Demel earlier supplied the imperial court and they allegedly have been the Lieblingsnaschereien (favorite candies) of Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi"). Rooms in the upper floors as the Pictures Room, Gold Room and the Silver rooms are rented for events. In addition to the pastry shop Demel operates, as it did at the time of the monarchy, a catering service, after the re-opening in 1996 as well as storage, shipping and packaging was desettled in the 22nd District of Vienna. Demel is also responsible for the catering at Niki Aviation.

This steam loco was from the first animated train cartoon I ever saw when I was very small, and is one of my favorites, easily beating The Brave Engineer (Disney cartoon) and only being bested by The Polar Express film! I got the basic looks from a single screenshot of the 1990's Cartoon "Hey Arnold!". The engine seem to be based on Norfolk and Western K-1 class 4-8-2, but is apparently owned by Great Northern as evidenced by the tender writing. You can read more about the haunted engine, it's known story, and even potential theories for why it crashed on the Arnold wiki. (yes, that's a thing, and credit goes to Paul Welch for bringing this info to my attention.)

The following text is from the wiki:

"As shown in the episode of the same name (Haunted Train), the legend concerns the phantom locomotive, Old Engine 25. Forty years ago, during a movement from the train yard to Union Station, Engine 25's engineer suddenly went insane. Defying signals and warnings to slow down, he intentionally derailed the engine and its train which slid down a high embankment. However, no wreckage was found beyond the engineer's severed hand, still clutching a part of Engine 25's throttle.

According to the legend, the engineer drove the train straight to the fiery underworld, and now once a year on the anniversary of the engine's derailment, returns aboard Engine 25 with the intent of collecting new passengers to return to the underworld with him."

You can read more about it here on the Wikipedia article for it: heyarnold.fandom.com/wiki/Legend_of_the_Haunted_Train

The engine's boiler is a highly modified version of one seen on this MOC by Plastic Goth (only the boiler is partially reused, I designed everything else myself): rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-60403/Plastic_Goth/2-8-4-berkshi...

Also, I wanted to put the crazed ghost engineer with this model, but his parts got lost in the mail.

I saw this article in my Bean's magazine and I thought the wonder frog peeps might like to see the pics of them being made.

News article obtained from the Northwest Herald:

WOODSTOCK – They walked past Engine 32 and into the church where Michael Wurtz, in his final months, reconnected to his faith.

More than 360 uniformed firefighters from departments as far away as the Champaign area filtered into Woodstock Assembly of God, saluting the open casket of Wurtz one-by-one during a fire department walk-through. The departments came together with Wurtz' friends and family to lay to rest the 47-year-old firefighter, who died Friday of cancer.

Those who spoke before and during the ceremony remembered a fearless firefighter who lived to serve – for his family, his friends and his community. They talked of his adventurous spirit, his exhaustive work ethic, the way everyone who met him seemed to feel a special connection. They remembered that smirk, which somehow toed the line between business-like and light-hearted.

They tried to put into words what Wurtz meant to the world.

"We seem larger than life," Woodstock Fire Chief Ralph Webster said during the ceremony. "But quite honestly, that's not what makes us so special. That's not what made Mike special. It's the little things he did to serve others."

Giving the service's eulogy, Pastor Roger Willis harkened back to conversations he'd had with Wurtz over the last four and a half months, since the two met. He explained several words that Wurtz's memory called to mind: adventure, selfless, honor.

He said his next sermon would be called "Lessons from 1325 Dean Street," the address of the nearby Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Station 2. Being around Wurtz firsthand showed him the honor the department felt Wurtz was due.

"If we treat one another how you all treat one another, it's going to go a long, long way," Willis said.

Willis added a fourth word: rest. He talked about the peaceful nature of a visit he'd had with Wurtz in January. The two discussed faith, and Wurtz opened up about a spiritual road made rocky by his dad's death at a young age.

"I was hoping this visit would go in this direction," Willis remembered Wurtz saying.

Firefighters lifted the American flag from its resting spot on Wurtz's casket, folded it and presented it to Wurtz's wife. They gave his helmet and badge to the family. Each of his children was presented an honorary badge from the local firefighters union.

"We're having his service, but we're serving her today," Webster said of Wurtz's wife. "Her and her family."

To the blare of bagpipes and drums, service men carried the casket out the church, past rows of firefighters frozen in salute. The body was raised onto Engine 32, where it would soon fall into a procession that traveled past each of the three Woodstock fire stations.

First, the rows of firefighters were ordered out of their salute. Several finally wiped the tears from their eyes.

Article 25 of the United Nation clearly outlines that every human being has the right to an adequate standard of living irrespective of his or her age.

However, the reality in twenty first century Jamaica is that one of the most vulnerable groups in the Jamaican society – the elderly are left to fend for themselves. This most fundamental of human rights is sadly neglected not only at a governmental level but also at the most basic unit of society – the family.

With the increase of urban migration and the demise of the traditional extended family structure in the Caribbean an ever increasing number of our elderly are being displaced. After a life time of servitude to their families, communities and nation it is an indictment upon us collectively as a country that we allow this most blatant of human rights violation to persist.

I challenge the viewer of these images and the individual reading this text to take time out of your busy routine to visit an infirmary or an elderly community member.

Sometimes all they desire is a smile or a word of encouragement or just some to say, “I care”.

Miletus (/maɪˈliːtəs/; Ancient Greek: Μί̄λητος Mīlētos; Hittite transcription Millawanda or Milawata (exonyms); Latin: Miletus; Turkish: Milet) was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria.[3][4][5] Its ruins are located near the modern village of Balat in Aydın Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities.[6][7] In other sources however it is mentioned that the city was much more modest up until the Peloponnesian War (431–404 BC), when, for example, the city state of Samos on the island of Samos opposite Miletus was considered a larger and more important city and harbor at the time. Miletus' greatest wealth and splendor was reached during the Hellenistic era (323–30 BC) and later Roman times.

Evidence of first settlement at the site has been made inaccessible by the rise of sea level and deposition of sediments from the Maeander. The first available evidence is of the Neolithic. In the early and middle Bronze age the settlement came under Minoan influence. Legend has it that an influx of Cretans occurred displacing the indigenous Leleges. The site was renamed Miletus after a place in Crete.

The Late Bronze Age, 13th century BC, saw the arrival of Luwian language speakers from south central Anatolia calling themselves the Carians. Later in that century other Greeks arrived. The city at that time rebelled against the Hittite Empire. After the fall of that empire the city was destroyed in the 12th century BC and starting about 1000 BC was resettled extensively by the Ionian Greeks. Legend offers an Ionian foundation event sponsored by a founder named Neleus from the Peloponnesus.

The Greek Dark Ages were a time of Ionian settlement and consolidation in an alliance called the Ionian League. The Archaic Period of Greece began with a sudden and brilliant flash of art and philosophy on the coast of Anatolia. In the 6th century BC, Miletus was the site of origin of the Greek philosophical (and scientific) tradition, when Thales, followed by Anaximander and Anaximenes (known collectively, to modern scholars, as the Milesian School) began to speculate about the material constitution of the world, and to propose speculative naturalistic (as opposed to traditional, supernatural) explanations for various natural phenomena.

Miletus is the birthplace of the Hagia Sophia's architect (and inventor of the flying buttress) Isidore of Miletus and Thales, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher (and one of the Seven Sages of Greece) in c. 624 BC

Nashville Irrigation Services

When it concerns sprinkling turf, lots of homeowners simply laid out a lawn sprinkler, turn it on as well as let it run for a while, presuming they are doing right by their lawns.

The truth is lots might be underwatering or overwatering their turf, which can do more injury than great. To help you give the appropriate hydration for your lawn, it’s important to sprinkle your lawn at the right time and also in the correct amount.

Lawn Types as well as Irrigation Timing

Knowing the type of yard you have can dictate just how usually you need to sprinkle your grass.

Cool-season lawns

Types: Bentgrass, bluegrasses, fescues, ryegrasses

Expanding pattern: Grow most actively in the springtime and fall. They go inactive– stop expanding– during the summertime, and afterwards once again in the wintertime.

General sprinkling guidance: They need water just every 3 weeks approximately if there’s been no rain. If you water a lot more often, you could be watering weeds instead of grass.

Warm-season grasses

Kinds: Bahiagrass, Bermudagrass, Buffalograss, Carpetgrass, Centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass

Expanding pattern: Expand most proactively in the summertime warm, go inactive in the chill of the fall or winter season.

General sprinkling recommendations: Some warm-season lawns, including Bermuda, Bahia and also Zoysia, are among the most drought-tolerant turfgrass varieties. Nonetheless, they still call for routine watering to preserve a healthy origin system, especially throughout their midyear high-growth period.

General Lawn Irrigation Advice

Water when the grass requires it.

Most yards require irrigation once every four to 8 days to stay healthy and balanced, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Solution, a department of the U.S. Department of Farming. Actually, the NRCS states irrigating less usually and using even more water when you do irrigate cause deeper rooted plants as well as healthier grass.

Keep an eye on the skies. When it rainfalls for several days, water much less. Successive warm, completely dry days imply water a lot more. If you’re not exactly sure if your grass needs water, the NRCS recommends this examination: If the lawn doesn’t spring back after being stepped on, it’s probably time to irrigate.

Early morning watering is best.

Early watering offers the turf time to soak up the water, sending it down right into the origins and into the grass plants themselves. That plumps up the yard blades with water, enabling them to far better endure the warm of the day. Prevent watering during the middle of the day when water evaporates rapidly. Additionally avoid watering on a windy day, which will run out the water before it can be taken in by the lawn.

Although not just as good as morning, late afternoon likewise can be a good time for sprinkling turf. You should not water in the evening, though, as remaining wetness can cause fungal illness in the grass.

During fall, as part of your normal grass care maintenance, you need to prepare your grass for the coming winter months. Per the NRCS, water with mid-September and then once again in mid-October to store moisture in the dirt.

Amount is important

When watering grass, it is necessary you do not water inadequate or way too much. Like Goldilocks’ porridge, you want it to be “perfect.” Your goal is to dampen the soil deeply. 4 inches is great, 6 inches is better. To do so, you need to use roughly 1 inch of water if you have clay-based soil. If your dirt is sandy, lower this amount to 1/2 inch of water.

Turf Watering for Different Soil Types

Clay

Sand

Loamy

Holds more water

Extremely porous

Moderately permeable

Slow to take in water

Holds water poorly

Retains moisture

Slow to launch water

Allows fast water

Ideal dirt for grass

Key recommendations: To stay clear of drainage, do not water faster than the dirt can take in; water in cycles.

Key suggestions: Water in 1/2-inch increments to fill dirt 6-8 inches deep.

Key guidance: Water as required.

Action Your Water Usage

To aid you figure out when you have actually applied 1 inch of water, put out some straight-sided containers around your lawn. Tuna cans work well. Turn on a timer and also turn on your watering system. Monitor them, as well as when they are loaded with 1 inch of water, switch off the water. Be sure to time the length of time it requires to fill the containers so you’ll know the length of time to leave the lawn sprinkler on each time you are watering grass. See “Maintain Your Grass Healthy And Balanced With a Sprinkler System Audit” for more information.

As part of your yard care regimen, check frequently for indications of overwatering. After sprinkling, stroll along your grass and also seek swimming pools of water. This is overflow– water that surpasses the quantity that can be soaked up, given the volume of water and also the duration of watering. The effects of runoff are bad. Runoff washes away fertilizer as well as newly sown seed, which adversely influences your yard, your budget and the environment.

If you experience drainage within the time frame you established would certainly supply 1 inch of water to your lawn, divide that time in half (say 15 mins rather than 30). Water your grass in 2 equivalent segments, allowing time in between for the turf to take in the water.

Overwatering additionally can dissuade origin growth in yard, which, subsequently, will deteriorate the turf, making it a lot more susceptible to tough environmental problems, condition and everyday usage, such as foot website traffic, children playing and animals running around.

Do not Panic– Your Lawn May Simply Be Dormant

Throughout summer season’s best days, your lawn might handle a tan or brown look, making it look dead. Nevertheless, numerous Northern cool-season yards undergo an inactive duration not just in winter season however also in summer months. Essentially, the lawn is pausing from growing. If your lawn is in an inactive duration, it will certainly begin to green up as temperatures cool off and after getting numerous days of rainfall.

Some varieties of yard are quicker to perk back up than others. Kentucky bluegrass, for instance, takes just three or 4 days to get up.

In case your yard does not revive under these scenarios, it most likely is too damaged to recover as well as will certainly require comprehensive like repair, and possibly change, the existing lawn.

Water Sensing Tools

As part of your grass care, there are a range of devices and also automatic systems to aid you in sprinkling grass.

Among the simplest tools is a long-bladed screwdriver. If you can not insert the screwdriver into your dirt, the dirt is extremely completely dry, as well as the lawn needs to be sprinkled. As a matter of fact, if the screwdriver slides right into the dirt easily, the yard is moisturized and also does not require water.

Fancier– though still economical– substitutes for the screwdriver are digital water sensor devices that can be found at any type of garden shop. They have long spikes that you place into the dirt, and also give you a readout of just how moist the problems are.

At the luxury are below ground sensor systems tied in with automatic sprinklers.

Sorts Of Sprinkler Equipments

Fixed Sprinkler

The fixed lawn sprinkler is straightforward as well as economical. It is a steel or plastic vessel with small holes in it that fits at the tube end. The stress of the water forced with the small openings sprays the yard. The pattern of spray is identified by the pattern of openings, the volume is controlled at the tap. To change the area of protection, you drag it around the grass.

Gear Drive Sprinkler

This sort of durable sprinkler is typically found on golf courses or other huge locations of turf where both huge volume as well as accuracy in watering is needed. Their gear-driven motion typically has several circulation controls that let you readjust the range the water is sprayed, as well as the angle as well as pressure of the spray.

Hose-end spray nozzles

These basic devices are a best seller. Inexpensive as well as versatile, they can be constructed from plastic or brass, and are commonly controlled by a handle that transforms the water on and off. The volume and pattern of spray is regulated by either turning the nozzle or via a dial attached to the nozzle.

Impact lawn sprinkler

With an influence (in some cases called impulse or pulsating) sprinkler, the splashing nozzle is rotated by the pressure of the water from the hose. Made in both plastic as well as brass; the brass effect sprinkler is more pricey however much more long lasting. Some models are affixed to the ground through a spike, others rise to end up being a tripod sprinkler

Control collars restrict the traveling of the head, and also a rocking arm repetitively inserts itself into the stream of water to both drive the head and also create an extra spray stream. The pulsating lawn sprinkler was designed in 1933 as well as marketed under the Rain Bird trademark name.

In-ground water lawn sprinkler

In-ground water as well as garden automatic sprinkler use a collection of sprinkler heads installed at dealt with places in the yard. When correctly preserved, in-ground systems give total as well as reliable coverage. The most common kind is built of a network of interconnected PVC pipelines mounted in trenches dug in the lawn. There are many different kinds of sprinkler heads to serve numerous demands. Some spray 360 levels, some simply 180 or 90 levels for sides as well as edges. Some heads appear and afterwards recede to ground degree. Preferably, your in-ground sprinkler system need to be made with “hydrozone separation” in mind. That is the concept of grouping plants with each other that have the exact same water intake practices. Your yard would certainly get on one area, your parched decorative plants on a 2nd and drought-resistant plants on a third. That way you can adjust your spray time as well as pattern to make sure that all the plants in the area more than happy.

Oscillating lawn sprinkler

At its simplest, the oscillating lawn sprinkler has a steel or plastic bar with openings pierced in it. Water appears the holes as bench rocks backward and forward as well as sprinkles the lawn with a mild spray. You control the size of the area at the resource, by readjusting the water volume at the tap. Great for reasonably small, rectangular lawns.

More-advanced designs such as the turbo oscillating lawn sprinkler allow greater control of the watering pattern as well as spray volume.

Traveling sprinkler.

As its name suggests, traveling sprinklers have wheels that let them move with the lawn, dragging the pipe behind them. Outstanding for irregularly shaped grass.

Other irrigation tools to consider

Circulation control meter

This gadget is installed between the tap and your hose pipe, as well as keep an eye on the quantity of water that undergoes. Some include an automatic shutoff control that stops wasteful overwatering.

Automatic timer

An automatic timer shuts off the water at a marked time. Some versions are hose-end, others are constructed right into in-ground lawn sprinkler to manage the timing of each section of the irrigation system.

Smart irrigation controller

Your phone is now wise. Watches, thermostats and doors, as well. So it’s not a surprise that lawn sprinkler controllers have climbed onto the smart bandwagon. Rather than relying upon a repaired timer, they make use of either Wi-fi or GSM cellular connection to get plant information as well as weather forecasts.

A smart controller will certainly sprinkle lawn according to environmental conditions such as evapotranspiration (water consumed by lawn) price and amount of soil moisture. Furthermore, make certain the system includes a shut-off button that cuts off the sprinklers while it’s raining.

To maintain them functioning effectively, automatic irrigation systems ought to be checked and investigated every a couple of years by a professional to guarantee it’s functioning properly as well as supplying the correct amount of water to your grass.

Basic Yard Treatment Makes Watering Easier

Good yard treatment techniques generate a healthy and balanced lawn which requires less water, and also retains what you give it.

Appropriate mowing height: Maintaining lawn to the appropriate mowing elevation for your grass types will certainly advertise deep origins and drought-resistant lawns. Taller lawn also helps reduce evaporation. Furthermore, recently reduced grass blades shed water quickly.

Leave the clippings: To assist preserve moisture in your lawn, do not get rid of yard trimmings after trimming the lawn. These act as a natural mulch that serves two purposes. Initially, mulch is a natural plant food, returning valuable nutrients to the turf. Second, throughout the period it considers the turf trimmings to break down and return to the soil, it will certainly serve as an obstacle that slows dissipation, avoiding the origins from drying also quick.

Feed when asked for: Also, as part of your yard care routine, effectively fertilizing grass can promote deep roots as well as drought tolerance.

Grass ranges will vary in their fertilizer needs, but as a whole:

Cool-season lawns: Fertilize at least two times, in spring and also loss.

Warm-season lawns: Fertilize every 4-8 weeks during the energetic midyear expanding period.

Nonetheless, do not use plant food when the yard is completely dry since it will additionally draw dampness from the grass.

Freshen: To assist lawns take a breath as well as drink in water as well as nutrients, freshen it– get rid of cores of dirt– on a regular basis every year. For cool-season grasses, the most effective time to freshen remains in the loss or springtime. For warm-season yards, the best time is in early summertime.

If essential, dethatch: Over time, your yard will certainly collect little bits and items of lawn as well as leaf particles into an interwoven mass called thatch, which can build up on your grass. A particular amount of thatch is both unpreventable and also helpful for lawns. It provides a questionable room for helpful pests, holds wetness and also is the place where trimmings and also various other organic material break down and return important nutrients to the dirt.

Nonetheless, if it gathers and also does not appear to be breaking down, it can create an obstacle, protecting against water and air from getting to the origin system. When that happens, it should be gotten rid of to help advertise a healthy and balanced lawn.

When doing so, Nashville Landscaping recommends limiting thatch removal to very early springtime or fall. If you power rake lawns in late spring or summer, they will need too much irrigation to remain alive.

Appropriately watering grass is among the important parts in keeping a healthy and balanced lawn. By executing a good watering as well as yard treatment routine, you’ll have a beautiful grass you can appreciate year-round.

Glasgow University Guardian's article from 2002 about Subcity being granted an AM broadcasting license.

Six months for Subcity

SUBCITY RADIO, Glasgow University's award-winning independent radio station has been successfully granted a six month AM broadcast license. From November 1st, Subcity will be transmitting live across the campus in 1350 AM and online worldwide at www.subcity.org.

It is hoped that the pioneering AM broadcast will be aired in addition to the annual 28 day FM transmission on February. It has been designed to give Glasgow University students even greater opportunities to gain radio experience. A delighted station manager Richard Webster told Guardian:

"This year we wanted to build on our FM success. The new AM broadcast license represents our continuing drive to develop Subcity and establish ourselves as Scotland's leading independent radio station.

Set up deven years ago to provide students with an alternative to commercial radio, Subcity quickly established itself as an important player in the Glasgow music scene. The station acts as a launch pad for the university's most talented presenters, DJs and live bands. Last year's broadcast featured Kinky Afro, The Argonauts, Jo Mango and the Needles, alongside shows boosted by Glasgow club favourites Optimo, Freakmenoovers, Hi Karate and Bebado.

Guest performers have included Biffy Clyro, Finley Quaye and the Scratch Perverts: a list which reflects the station's commitment to exploring the boundaries of modern music. "Our aim is to offer our listeners a healthy diversity of sounds", explained Webster, "Last year we featured everything from Brooklyn hip-hop to celtic funk."

Subcity also enjoys a reputation for organising some of the best club nights throughout the city, including the consistently sold-out launch party at The Arches. This year is set to be their busiest yet, as Events Manager Tamsyn Dent explained: "We've got several club nights confirmed, including the official AM broadcast launch party at the Renfrew Ferry on November 14th. Already this year we've hosted DJ sessions at Jim's Bar, which were massively successful and our opening club night at the Woodside Social was completely sold out. The night, which featured funk, hip-hop and drum 'n' bass DJs, was designed to introduce mew students to the Subcity sound and encourage them to get involved with the running of the station. "The response this year has been fanstastic", said Webster, who explained that students should not be intimidated by the station's underground image. "We offer enthusiastic, talented students he chance to gain their first practical experience of working in radio."

Les manifestants ont encore rivalisé de créativité dans les messages inscrits sur les pancartes, où la référence à Emmanuel Macron était souvent présente.

— When My friend finished his P,G+BED study, he was full of hope for the future. Today, the unemployed, poverty-stricken young Kashmiri suffers from depression and thinks of nothing but ending his miserablelife.

"To me, unemployment is much worse than death," say MUDASIR RASHID , who is about to turn 28-years-old.

"I am not able to feed my father who managed to educate me despite his poverty," he laments tearfully.

Like thousands of unemployed youths in Kashmir, ME too, finish my PG +BED degree , has given up on hopes to get a state job.

"I have been trying to get a government job over the past five years but I failed."

The long years of dependence on his aging impoverished parents has led him to severe depression.

"I am the eldest son of my parents and I have to shoulder them at least now as they got old," me said in apainful voice.

I, applied to every single job across over the years, but in vain.

"I am now turning old and I see no chance of getting employed."

Last month 05/ FEB 2013 , the Jammu and Kashmir government say,s that we appoint at least 80,000 youth.s but all in vain, they also say thest words because of there vote bank

I read one important book, that Dr. Iqbal-ul-Zaman a retired physician, says depression is now a common mental disorder among the youth, citing unemployment as the main cause.

"Over the past two decades, about 76% percent of the patients come suffering from unemployment stress,"

"It is a colossal problem. Patients with multiple psychiatric disorders have been coming to us for treatment."

Iqbal-ul-Zaman warns that unemployment does not only put Kashmiris under the yoke of depression but also affects their family life.

"I have seen family breakups and breakdowns due to depression among the youth."

Many young Kashmiris are turning suicidal or violent as they reel under the stress.

"Youth have lost self-control and they overreact to any kind of situation," said a local doctor in Srinagar, Kashmir’s summer capital.

the cases of committing suicide by hanging, stabbing and jumping into rivers have increased dramatically and they are linked to unemployment.

According to News records, about 40% unemployed youth attempted to commit suicide, and more of them succeeded, in 2013.

Other depressed youth escape to drugs.

"Sometimes abuse of drugs, like anti-depressants, can also lead to death,

"In such cases, one cannot be sure whether the death was accidental or intentional."

A survey by the Kashmir chapter of Action Aid International last month showed that nearly half of the unemployed youth use drugs to overcome stress and depression.

"I do smoke and even some times goes river sind namely Wayil bridge to take fresh air to ease the tension, iam helpless and hopeless

"How long will I remain dependent on my father? what is my fault please tell me....

News article obtained from the Northwest Herald:

Realizing it’s not easy to convince his colleagues to jump into a freezing lake in February, Woodstock Police Sgt. Tino Cipolla admitted he resorted to dirty tactics.

He asked the new guys.

“I think it comes down peer pressure,” Cipolla said, laughing. “And the fact that it’s a great cause.”

On Sunday, 15 members of the Woodstock Police Department – 11 officers and four police explorers – will be, as they say, “freezin’ for a reason” at the annual Polar Plunge. Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics programs and athletes.

All across McHenry County, teams are preparing for a nippy dip Sunday in freezing waters at Lakefront Park in Fox Lake. The Woodstock Police Department team is one of the top fundraisers for this event with $4,170 by Wednesday afternoon. Other high earners include a team from District 200 and students from Huntley.

Brenden Cannon, the director of Special Olympics District 13, which covers Lake and McHenry counties, said this year’s event should prove to be the district’s largest. To date, 444 plungers have signed up, but Cannon expects late registrants to push that number over 500.

“When people leave there, they’ve had a great time and they really want to do it again,” Cannon said. “I think the rewarding part is knowing what they’re raising the money for.”

Donations raised by plungers directly support the Special Olympics of Illinois.

In addition to the plunge, Sunday’s highlights include lunch for participants, music, awards for top fundraisers and a costume contest. Woodstock police officers are dressing as superheroes.

Cipolla’s advice for first-time plungers was to prepare for the worst, but expect the best.

“It’s gonna be cold,” he said. “No matter what you do it’s going to hurt, but the best part is as soon as you get in, you don’t feel it because you’re so numb. It’s fun.”

Introduction

Hell, in many religious beliefs and traditions, is a place or state of torment and punishment in an afterlife. Religions with a linear divine history often depict hells as eternal destinations.

Hell

Place of God's final retributive punishment. Scripture progressively develops this destiny of the wicked: the Old Testament outlines the framework, while the New Testament elaborates on it. Jesus, however, is most responsible for defining hell.

Experience has definitely shown that some reasons for holding a belief are much more likely to be justified by event than others. It might naturally be supposed, for instance, that the best of all reasons for accompanying the belief. By crucial test of experiment, the rich man in the Book of St. Luke attests to the existence of hell. The Book of Revelation of the Holy Bible has said more and its assertion being an effective enough means of catching the picture of hell. Friends, hell is real, though some on hearing this may forthwith burst into a violent fit of laughter. But the Bible and the human experience similar to mine have considerably built a consistently satisfactory foundation for this reality.

-thing disagreeable in her countenance, but her eyes forever closed, create a deficiency of expression. Her complexion is fair; her smile gentle and sweet, though of rare occurrence; and her person somewhat bent, when sitting, from her habits of fixed attention to her work. Many strangers have waited for a long time to see her thread her needle, which is quite a mysterious process, and never accomplished without the aid of the tongue. You will perceive nothing striking or attractive in her exterior, though her life of patience, industry, and contentment, had traced correspondent lines upon her features and deportment.

My dear children, it will be difficult for you to gain a correct idea of a person perfectly blind, deaf, and dumb, even after repeatedly beholding her. Cover your eyes for a short time, and you shit out this world of beauty. Close your ears, and you exclude this world of sound. Refrain from speaking, and you cease to hold communion with the world of intelligence. Yet were it in your power to continue thus for hours, even for days, you still have within your minds a treasury of knowledge to which she can never resort. You cannot picture to yourself, the utter desolation of one, whose limited acquirements are made at the expense of such toil, and with the hazard of such continual error. Never, therefore, forget to be grateful for the talents with which you are endowed. For every new idea which you add to the mental storehouse, praise Him who gives you with unveiled senses to taste the luxury of knowledge.

When the smile of your parents and companions makes your heart glad, or when you look at the bright flowers and fair skies of summer, think with compassion of her, who must never see the face of her fellow creatures, or the beauty of earth and sky. When you hear the melody of music, or the kind voice of your teachers, Oh! Strive to value and improve your privileges; and while you pour forth all the emotions of your souls in the varieties of language, forget not a prayer of pity for her, who dwells in perpetual silence, a prayer of gratitude to Him, who hath caused you to differ from her.

Grab today's RedEye (Friday, December 11, 2009) and flip to page 10. For over two years at my job I have worked very hard to perfect the data, the database and the web application that shows bike parking information to the public.

Just before I was temporarily laid off, I built an advanced search page that allows anyone to grab just the information they want and export it as an XLS file, compatible with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org Chart.
