The recurrence of a short vacation period presents as a gift, in my mailbox, the art of surprise. Lu's fantastic forms created as experiments in highly charming manner. The precious decorative quality looks as something alien, imported from an other world...
I really am very grateful, Lu!

Over the past 3 years since I became an independent creative by freelancing as an art director and building my own roster of clients as an illustrator and designer, I began this tradition of summarizing each professional year with short videos highlighting all the projects I’ve worked on and my achievements.
Every time I finish one of these videos I feel incredibly moved to do even bigger and better work for next year. I also take a moment to look back and be grateful to everyone that has helped make my year a real blast.
2015 was the most rewarding year to date! Here’s to bigger and better things in 2016!
Big thanks to Rethink Canada, Infiniti Canada, DDB Canada, Grey Canada, adidas Originals, 123W, Chris Tarry, Jonathan Herman, David DeHaas, Ken Tsui, Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, Jameson Whiskey, Mercedes-benz, Heike Kaufhold, Camp Pacific, The Vancouver Economic Commission, Make Is Awesome, Scout Magazine, Jeff Shorkey, Blue Ant Media, Working Not Working, We The Collective, TEDx West Van, Jenice kim, Brittany Chor-Kay So, Telus, Justin Renvoize, Devin Leggett, Ryan Leeson, Alex Beim, Votee, my brother Pak and of course my wife Denise.
"The isle of Ameland in November always directs my mind to the poems in "A Winter at the Seashore" by Adriaan Roland Holst. What does the laggard, the loner see, looking out through the window? What unreachable past do we crave for?"

She woke up: on the still empty
sea of her eyes I embarked,
former distances ahead,
sailed out to the salvation
of old, and suddenly
- but now behind foam edges
of death - there were again
the forgotten islands.
My wife and I did an art project; The Ameland Challenge. (Ameland being a Dutch island, hosting art expositions each November.) We reacted on each others work. She painted on mdf panels (30x30 cm), I built Lego (32x32 studs).
made for an artproject in Tienen Belgium.

V is for Vaxjo. I have decided as an extra project, I will post an alphabet photo each day of a place I have been - my own rule is that it must be a photo that I have already published, untouched from the original. Each photo is one I "like" or have a connection to, regardless of "quality". Today is Vaxjo in Sweden. This is the beautiful lake

This was a little art project I did with a class of nursery school children in Evie, Orkney in 2001.
I wanted to do a "Katie Morag" version of the parish the school was in, as the locations used in the stories the children were reading were very similar to their own.
I drew in the features such as the Pier, School, beaches and 'round-and-rounds' (wind turbines on the hill) and the children who were only 3 or 4 years old painted it in, poured salt, splashed and used a wax resist to finish off the painting.
The children were really quite tiny at the time, and most had to stand on the painting (which was on the floor) to reach the section they were painting. It was then pinned on the stairwell of the school for the photo.
This is the only photo of it, and presume the painting no longer exists.

Katie Morag book (illustrated by Mairi Hedderwick):
"I wanted to start the other dialogue with a tabula rasa, as empty as the Ameland beach in winter, and yet full of traces of the absentees. What is, in the arts, the right balance between finding tracks and leaving traces, between discovery and creation? And how do organically shaped nature and straight
plastic bricks relate to each other? The design is also inspired by the work of Tom Beijl, whose landscapes balance on the thin line between the figurative and the abstract."
