Stuck In Paradise, Crosby Beach, Merseyside
In preparation for my one day long exposure workshop that I ran last Sunday on the Merseyside coastline, I decided to pop down to Crosby Beach last week to capture some new images.
I was at the beach photographing the life sized Antony Gormley statues after Antony himself had recently visited to oversee the repositioning of ten of the one hundred statues installed.

These wonderful life size statues of Antony Gormley's permanent exhibition 'Another Place' are a big hit with photographers and visitors alike. They make fantastic subjects to shoot during an incoming tide as you can perfect your long exposure techniques. For those interested, the statues are based on Antony's actual body.

The front door of the The Banco de Portugal in Faro, located in Praça D. Francisco Gomes (or "Jardim").
Built in 1926, under the guidance of architect Adães Bermudes , it is an interesting example of Neo-Manueline Revival architecture , with Islamic suggestions on the main door.
More street art in Turnpike Lane, London.
The lapwing is by ATM but I suspect the little animals running along the bottom of the wall are by Binty Bint. The small colourful birds on the right and the colourful dragon are by Fio Silvia.
ATM's paintings of endangered birds on urban walls have an environmental message.

* The forecast for seeing the Super moon was excellent so for once I got myself organised and got down to the River Humber. Sadly the moon remained stubbornly hidden by clouds for the two hours I spent freezing down by the river. This is the best shot I got of the bloody moon however The Deep does look fairly splendid.
The Deep is a large aquarium built on land where the River Hull joins the larger River Humber

Twenty-one years ago, a collective of 24 photographers agreed to document New Year’s Day for the next 24 years. Each was allocated one hour to record what is going on around them and each moves forward one hour every year.
I was invited to join this collective in December 2023. My image, of this bus stop in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, was photographed at my allocated hour, 10pm (22:00), on New Year's Day.
I chose this location for several reasons. These prostate cancer posters were a regular sight in our area at the time and they coincided with a friend's recent diagnosis of the disease. This style and colour of bus shelter is typical in our area. I now possess a concessionary bus pass so I use buses quite a lot now. Also, I liked the festive lights and decorations in the windows of the mid-century building in the background.
Luckily, my friend's prostate cancer was diagnosed early. He has since been treated. Another friend has since been diagnosed with the same disease but requires more invasive treatment.
This year's exhibition opened on 24th February 2024 and is currently displayed in Soho Square, London, until 19 March 2024.
My photo was also one of those featured in the Guardian newpaper's on-line site a few days ago:
